Some people prefer aliens, some people prefer humans. I personally prefer aliens, becouse they are varied. I prefer playing as an alien than playing as a human, becouse it is more interesting to imagine that i am an alien. I prefer hiding and hit and run fight-type too. These are much more easy to make them with an alien, not with all of the aliens, but each alien has a special fighting technic. The humans are little bit boring to me, because i am a human too and that isn't a big change.
You can say your opinions, that's the topic's function.

And now theres 11. :P
Hmm, human or alien, which one to choose? Generally I'm good with both, but my vote has to go to humans. First they can do long range attacks, so its possible to kill an alien without them getting near you (Other then the classes like Adv.Dragoon). Second, they have the Lucifer. Don't you dare fuck with the Lucifer. Third, they have ti work together to properly beat the other team (Depending on the skills of the aliens) un like the aliens, which most of the time they go solo and concentrate on what they're doing for the team, acting as a whole.
-
I prefer humans.
Campers are fags, so I find I'm less frustrated if I'm just on the humans team, not worrying about how to take out entrenched ret-humpers. If my whole team still decides to camp then oh well, I'm feeding. Campers loss, at least I'm still having fun, and allowing the aliens to have a good time too.

I'd say it's a tough choice because I do like playing humans a lot, but I'd be lying since I always remind myself of the unique ways of playing aliens that I've developed. I try not to play just like any other good player because it's obvious that the way most people use aliens is not going to get them further than a certain point that's well below truly impressive, and you have to really take it to a different level if you want to get above that point.

aliens
-
People that feed my dretch/rant/goon while the rest of the humans camp is not fun for me. When people do that I usually say "FEED me" or "FEED me [name]" to try to discourage them from doing so.
It is very difficult for the aliens to win against camping humans when they *all* camp, whereas if even one person constantly feeds, the aliens will utterly destroy the humans. If the aliens are the stronger team, for the aliens to win in that situation, they need to be more inventive. Mara RC rush for instance. Either that or the humans are the stronger team and the game *should* stalemate until the humans coordinate an advance.
Personally I prefer humans just because of deconners, bad builders, challenge factor, and people like Kaine and Hendrich (who really should play a team they actually want to *help*).
-
Its difficult to decide... I love having sex with grangers but i need psaw to do that :/...
I'll chose humans. Nothing is more fun that see how specs laught when they see me suiciding alone with psaw because my team is bored of dying and begin camping... Yeah i like that. I like play alone. I like call noobs to rc jumpers and split that f*cking snipper that is annoying the builders. And i have good aim :D
Anyways i love tyrant-mara killwhoring or annoy players with my basi.
-
I prefer aliens, merely because I suck with them. I got humans down to an okay level, but my dretch and mara are hilariously bad in comparison to my goon. I sucked at using evasive maneuvers with the dretch so I got into the habit of forming good ambushes. Which is handy at times, but it didn't help me with my dretch when the humans have already seen me. I can miss a lot with the mara too, but more importantly, I can't stick with my targets too well. All this means I have bitter sweat moments of failing to dretch or mara someone, but learning a valuable lesson in using the class. The only time when I have similar fun while on the human team is when I use the flamer with a 50 ammo capacity, or I manage to psaw an adv goon/rant.
-
Humans, no worry about camping.
-
It's ongoing and always evolving. I've started with humans and I do ok with some weapons more than others: rifle, shotgun, chaingun, pulse rifle, lasgun. The mass-driver, psaw and luci are probably the most difficult to master. Interesting is the fact that at first I couldn't see the deal with the shotgun and why it's so popular, as evidenced in my own earlier posts around this forum. That has changed.
I've only recently started playing alien more. At the moment I'm trying to improve my dretch and I'm finding unexpected joy in playing lisk. I have absolutely no skill worthy of mentioning at the others. The dretch is fast and has low HP. I have to practice hard in two areas in particular: wallwalk and walljumping, because I get severely disoriented sometimes and end up going the wrong way down a corridor or just madly wallwalking around as the world is spinning; and the final dance when approaching a human, that fine weaving at close distance to him. As for the lisk... it's the king of the lesser aliens. It can wallwalk, it can jump, it's slower than the dretch but has higher HP, and the special grab attack opens entire chapters on proper use and strategy. In fact, there is a dedicated topic (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=5437.0).
I'd venture to say that all alien classes are hard to master. Which probably applies equally to (all) human weapons, but at least they're similar to other FPS games so the learning curve is smoother.
Builders and grangers have less to do with combat skills and more with strategy and making use of resources well. I'd say it's hard to choose between building for humans or for aliens, they're equally challenging.
One thing is for sure: as long as I find people to play with, I don't see myself losing interest in Trem anytime soon. It's simply too complex a game (which is something I never thought I'd say about a FPS).
-
I like humans better, they got nades. :grenade: It's just fun watching those aliens go flying when the nade as'plodes them.
:helmet: <(Say hello to my little frend!) --> :helmet: :grenade: --> :helmet: <(Hehe, bitches.) *runs* :grenade: --> :marauder: :grenade: :dragoon: :basilisk: :basilisk: :marauder: --> *BOOOOOOM* --> :helmet: <(Hoez, hehehe.
-
I prefer humans, but I force myself to play aliens so I can get better. I have severe headshot problems.
-
I like them both, and I was playing as Human, and I make a somewhat decent one. I couldn't quite kill people well with Dretches, but now that I have gotten that, I prefer playing as an Alien.
-
Pretty much 50/50 and varies depending on my moodswings. Lately I have been more human oriented (though i have not played a game in 2009 yet).
Aliens generally allow for more solo playstyles while humans allow for group strategy to be implemented.
I sometimes pick a team based on who i'm playing with. Some strategies are only possible when you see an another past his prime gamer.
-
I like them both. I think I'm a little better as humans, but recently I've played a lot more aliens.
And janev, I don't want to see you on these forums again until you have played 20 rounds of trem. ;)
-
Perhaps it's impossible to really master Trem by playing either alien or human exclusively. I think you need the perspective from both sides to be a good player with either.
-
Human, it really is an accomplishment and a wonderful experience to win against a half-decent Alien team. Makes me feel special.
-
I like aliens. Reason being, the dragoon it makes me feel I'm not that awful at this game. :grenade:
-
How strange, it gives me the complete opposite feeling. :)
-
That depends on whether or not I'm playing noobs or pros. If pros, then I like humans. If noobs, Then aliens.
-
I enjoy playing humans because it is satisfying when I kill a skilled alien with a shotgun :D. Im experinced with aliens but they are difficult to control if you have never played them.
-
It depends
I enjoy killing three dretches in a row with a shot gun, but I also like killing a human by jumping over his head.
It really depends on my mood.
-
That depends on whether or not I'm playing noobs or pros. If pros, then I like humans. If noobs, Then aliens.
That's pretty much me except I don't always know whether I'm playing pros or noobs. In all sincerity, I like humans better but only because I am more skilled with them. I usually only play aliens when the humans have more players or I'm really in the mood for a challenge.
-
If I'm lagging I'll play aliens, because I find lag doesn't affect my dretching all that negatively. Otherwise, I prefer to use humans since I feel I'm better with them.
-
As CactusFrog stated, auto select is fine if I arrive in the middle of a game. Otherwise, I stick with humans because that's where the teamwork comes in. With aliens it's not to say that there's an absense of teamwork, just that there's less overall.
-
Aliens, and simple. Since most people automatically gravitate to Humans, I had to play Aliens early in my career, and I've just grown attached to them. They are considered worse for some reason, by most people, and I love owning people who think they're better than me. Also since most noobs play humans, I get some free kills. XD

I tell you what boy..

and I couldn't figure out how to get into the channel either...
Also, I got an email from the boards about some haxxor who "compromised" my account's security and I was like... I pity a fool that messes with my personal sense of security... and thus I'm here.

Now you're here, please don't leave us so soooooooooooooon

Aliens, because during the first stage you have a guaranteed element of surprise to humans (as long as you don't make contact with them), and :basilisk: are the greatest thing ever.
-
Humans, Can you spell CHAINGUN? The chaingun can kill anything and is good for solo rushes. Also with the battle suit you just have to walk backwards and shoot and nothing can touch you(unless they want to be filled with bullets).
-
walk backwards
excellent strategy good sir

Wait.
No.... you couldn't be saying dretches are great for feeding are you?
Because...
well...
If you are that's just dumb. Aliens are the strongest race in Tremulous. This is because they are fully capable of performing everything from camping to rushing - with proper coordination and communication - well.
They have a class to fit any role, be it camptacular hallsweepers like tyrants. :tyrant:
Mobile healing/opportunist/guerrilla units like Lisks. :basilisk:
Hit and run/base-breaker/harassment units like Maras. :advmarauder:
Or highly-mobile assault units such as Dragoons and Adv.Goons. :dragoon:
And their basic units are almost broken in stage 1, somewhat dangerous in s2, and annoying as hell in s3. :dretch: :booster: :D
Plus there is never a need to return to base to change class, making even a lowly granger capable of killing a handful of surprised humans... :helmet: :( :human: :o :battlesuit: :( :tyrant:
Aliens are the best race when used by the right people.

Humans because I'm occasionally good at them and at times I'm a significant portion of the team.
As aliens I'm a feeding newbie that's not good for anything but building,
I'm trying but still failing with aliens. I'm bored with the humans.

No actually, because when you take the most team-functioning, coordinated, focused, and best players for both Human and aliens, the humans are going to lose. This is because when aliens work in effective attack teams, and work in such a manner that they never actually block one another, the humans can't do anything against that.
Or else it will always be a draw because the humans will camp in their super bases, and the aliens will wait just wait in their pre-planned ambush sites.

You obviously missed the point. Any team with the "right" players will win. If humans and aliens have equally skilled "right" players (and both use good strategic play), it will simply be left to chance.

There is an aimbot for 1.2 that's really hard to detect, it's for humans and aliens.
It's be actively developed (unfortunately)and I'm hoping the devs have something to stop it.
I've got some ideas however I don't code much and none within trem or quake.

Aliens!!!
Why?
They have :granger:, :booster: shrimp, friend :advmarauder: and friend :basilisk: .
Another reason - This is almost the only game where you get to play them :P
-
They have :granger:
I feel this is substantial enough to merit the uninhibited use of aliens always ;)
-
I prefer Aliens as they are faster and more mobile which makes their abilities easier to utilize and also makes getting hit harder.
The class I am best at is ADV Dragoon as it is (at least in my eyes) the most versatile class. ADV Goons are also great because they have the only decent Alien ranged attack.
They can also move faster than all other classes except maybe Tyrant, Dretch, and standard Dragoons.
-
Good thread!
-
Good thread!
Not good enough to score a doublepost. Or is it?
-
except maybe Tyrant, Dretch, and standard Dragoons.
I'm not sure about the rant, but an advanced goon's pounce is much faster than a dretch, and I think it's a bit faster than a normal goon. But is it really worth necroing this thread over it?
-
Well I prefer Aliens I think they require more skill for the fact that most of them don't work together, a good dretch is so hard to find theese days to, I find that most player who are good at humans arent to great at aliens/dretching. All I see is dretchs with no strategie not incorporating wall techniques or anything just scurrying up to the humans looking for a headshot or to by aiming or jumping up :/
-
Kill whoring as Aliens is quite easy, some may say that playing as aliens requires more skill. Not me.
I prefer playing as Humans :human:, especially when both teams are S3 and Aliens have the upper hand. There is nothing like struggling to survive as your base is being torn apart by Tyrants :tyrant: and bodies flying everywhere from Dragoon :dragoon: pounces, the continuous pressure from attacks and a decent gun in your hands is just the rush I love about Tremulous. Fighting for your right to live against a terror of an enemy, sure you can whore in any fps game but making a comeback after such a slaughter feels more satisfying.
I enjoy playing as aliens as well, but not as much as good teamwork playing as Humans :human:
