Title: GTKRadient 1.5 Startup Problems
Post by: ShadowNinjaDudeMan on January 18, 2009, 10:46:21 am
Hallo,

Just wanting to try mapping again, looks like immense fun, and from what i remember it was.

I am using Windows Vista Home Basic (Aero disabled) on a relatively new laptop.

Anyway, the problem:

I downloaded the GTKRadient-1.5.0 from the Radient homepage.
After installing it (only installed Trem and like Quake portions (just in case  :)) I tried running it.
And thats when multiple problems started hitting the fan.

On startup, a first message appears:
GtkGLExt-WARNING (recursed) **: cannot create GdkGLContext

aborting...

After clicking "ok" to this:
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

After again clicking "ok" there is the standard forced closing wee window.

As I know literally nothing about solving computer problems, I was wondering wether anyone had any ideas.
Ive tried redownloading, but to no avail.
Ive dug around the qeradient site, and here; but, nothing.
Ive tried to use the repair function with the installer, but nothing.
Ive tried running it as an administrator, still fails.

Thanks in advance.

Well, when I had problems with Radiant startup, I just used the installer to repair it. That worked.

Well, I used to do my mapping on my XP machine.

But thats broken now and Ive been given this laptop, so I figured I'd make use of it.

(I miss XP...)

XP could be the solution. It looks like it may be an OpenGL error, which I could guess is a Visat-hates-you sort of thing.

damnt.
Are there any possible patches?
Im just reluctant to even consider changing version. I think I have an XP cd somewhere, but, Vista came preloaded, with lots of ad crap.
Ive got Radient working on another compter that runs Vista.

Please let there be other options  :)

EDIT: Ive decided to download Ingars Netradient and gee that a go.

DOEBLEEDIT: Well, Ingars build seems to be working ok. So, problem kinda solved.

For now.....

Thanks Kaleo  :)
But Ingar gets my babies.

even though your problem is solved I had to right click on the radiant.exe and disable desktop composition which worked.  :)
