Title: Lost Map
Post by: Brandall on January 22, 2009, 02:37:59 am
I built a map with GTKRadiant and compiled it without hassle. Come testing time however Tremulous complained "Can't find maps/hive.bsp". I checked the program files and it is sitting in the correct folder. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's in the right folder?

base/maps/map.bsp

9/10 times this question arises that is the answer.

Make sure you set sv_pure 0 before trying to /devmap the map.

Definitely in the right folder and sv_pure is set to zero. Any other ideas?

Lowercase/uppercase? I know it's an issue on Linux. For the demos, for instance; they get created with all lowercase names, yet when you want to load them the client insists they have to be uppercase in the name and lower in the extension, otherwise it claims it can't find them. So I have to rename them manually.

Check the console output and see how _exactly_ the client expects the file to be named.

I think you might be making the same careless mistake I have done many times. Make sure you are not ziping a folder containing all the map stuff. Instead, only zip the items inside the folder. For instance say you have the folders:
"maps"
"levelshots"
"textures"
"scripts"
Highlight all of these and then create your pk3. do not put them in a folder and create the pk3 out of the folder.
Tremulous looks in base->maps for the hive.bsp If you create a pk3 out of a folder then then the file will be hidden in base->mapfoldername->maps and tremulous will not see it.
Essentially, this is what Kaleo was trying to make you check.

if ONLY you would read the thread... he is trying to run it without making a pk3.

I used to have this problem, back in the day when I pretended to map  :P.

I would just /sv_pure 0, then /devmap some random map like arachnid.
then from there I would /devmap the map I wished to test.

And for no real reason it worked.
Creepy.
