Should I try not to let all my ideas for things in 1.2 to spill out so much? I know the one about the new menus went well, but im sure not all of them will.
Anyhoo, this is the way I think the new Luci should look (much different from old Luci)

At the muzzle, a round reactor-like 'core' this part would probably be black, just like the muzzle.
Moving back, we see the actual body of the weapon. This ought to be painted the same orange-red as the current luci. Throught the vents one can see a glowing red fuel rod. This rod is the ammunition, and is inserted into the back of the red part. The other end of the rod is held up by part of the same framework that holds the stock and handle. Covering the rod is a curved black plate (shown only in outline in this drawing) with vent holes in it that show through to display the fuel rod. This plate also slides forward over the body of the weapon to expose the rod for refueling.
What do you all think?
EDIT: holes in the armor plate would be a bit like the plates on this guy's ankles:

Sounds like an interesting idea, but the "spirit" seems to be lacking. It doesn't look as deadly, as fierce and "tremmy" as I would like a new version to look.
