Title: 2009-02-03 20:00 gmt, wrecked internet connections in Europe?
Post by: zybork on February 03, 2009, 08:47:58 pm
Hi there, I just had a really bad connection to any server I tried (random "connection interrupted"-phases during the game) and would like to know if other people had this problem too. Located in Austria, some other guys had the problem aswell, one from Finnland ???

What was the matter with that darn connection?

Our datacenter was down. Apparently hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net lost connection to my ISP. It started to work again and server was up. Now the server suddenly went offline and I can't reach the support by email. Their email server is not responding.

Due to this the tremcentral.com map repo is down too. I am sorry for any inconvience that results from this problem.

I am currently investigating how to utilize "mirrorbrain" for Apache to increase uptime and general reliability.

Bissig, your problem is unrelated. Mainly cause, uh, hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net doesn't resolve to anything.
Code: [Select]
--(solaroperator@xephavegue:pts/3)---(/home/solaroperator)--
--(1945:Tue,03 Feb 09:$)-- host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

64.214.106.38, you are starting to really aggravate me.

Code: [Select]
[solar@veritynot ~]$ host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

Code: [Select]
acc7:~  host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host not found.

Code: [Select]
[root@fastest ~]# host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

Code: [Select]
delphi:~ solar$ host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

do you want me to login to more boxes and prove to you such a hostname does not exist?

Code: [Select]
(root@solara:~)$ host 64.214.106.38
38.106.214.64.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net.
(root@solara:~)$ host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net
Host hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

a PTR records means so much. The fact there is no A record means said domain does not exist.
for example, an IP on an IP space I used to own:
Code: [Select]
(root@solara:~)$ host 72.36.182.242
242.182.36.72.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ip-72-36-182-243.internal.squaresoft.jp.
(root@solara:~)$ host ip-72-36-182-243.internal.squaresoft.jp
Host ip-72-36-182-243.internal.squaresoft.jp not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

but I digress, your issue is not related to Europe being 'disconnected'. If there WAS any major net outage, it'd be widely known, that sort of thing spreads fast.

The magnetic fields of your floppy disks are out of alignment with the heads on your drive.

Thanks guys, I still have no clue why several people reported random interruptions of connections.

But flames are always fun to read  ;)

Here in the UK there have been a few issues due to the snow breaking stuff.
My guess would be similar is happening else where.

The internet is extremely fragile, it doesn't take much for it to all break, it will probably fix it's self soon enough.

Fragile? The internet's not fragile! It's soft and huge. Even the UK is more fragile than the net is. Try dumping snow on the internet and see if it freezes up.
