Title: Too dark screen.
Post by: Glunnator on July 02, 2006, 03:58:03 pm
Hey guys and aliens, I'm a noob to the forum and pretty much to Tremulous aswell. I use a Mac with Os X 10.4.6 and I have the following problem:

Whenever I open Trem. the screen is much too dark, resulting in semi-blind gameplay. I would like this to be cleared out. is it a bug? Or is it supposed to be that dark? (I don't really think so :P )

If any other mac users have this problem, I have the following Temporal solution:

Play Trem. in windowed mode, and have System prefs open in the background. In system prefs, open "Display" and click the "Color" tab.
Then, set "gamma" to a higher brightness (Lower number) and click "Recalibrate". The recalibrating will take quite a while and has to be redone everytime Trem. (re)loads a different map. Annoying aint it? :x

Well at least it's something :P

Some of the maps are too dark, so change the brightness in the options.

Get a flashlight     (lol, ok bad joke..)

Ok now, some questions:
Are the screenshots you take as dark as the game while you play it?

You are running MacOs on what hardware? what model?

Is it this only game with that problem?

hi,
same here. Adjusting gamma or the slider in the options menu doesnt do anything - only if i set it to <1, then it gets even darker. Everything >1 is the same, no difference.

Linux, recent kernel and nvidia-drivers, same with new and old installation of trem, with and without my configs, no error in the logs. Other 3d-games work well.

I make it playable by adjusting the brightness at my monitor or by adjusting the gamma in X with nvidia-settings.

Maybe i should file a bug report...i'll check later today.

Yah the game stays dark with a screenshot.
Even the flashlight didn't work! needs new batterys :D

I'm using a Dual 450 MHz PowerPC G4 Processor

CPU Model: PowerMac 3.3

Memory: 1.25 GB SDRSM

And yes, it IS the very only game with that problem. (On my machine, then :P )

Hope that helps...  :P
Cause it's not much interesting to me

Sorry I didn't read this thread earlier.  r_gamma has been fixed in the latest build:

http://trem.tjw.org/backport/tremulous.dmg

(this is just an update to the 20060625 version not the full download)

Thanks for the help mate! Let's see if this new thing works!

EDIT: It works! full automatic! I had to put down the brightness slider cause it was too bright!  :D
Thanks man! Now i can go fullscreen again and won't have to 'recalibrate' anymore! :D  :D  :D

One of the minor gamma problems I've had since I upgraded my grpahics card is sometimes Trem starts with a really shitty Gamma value. However if you try to change the gamma value to what you previous had set (ie you were using /r_gamma 2, it loaded all dark and you tr yot set /r_gamma 2) it doesn't work unless you change r_gamma to some other value first.

Bizzare but I've bound two keys to r_gamma 1.5 and r_gamma 2 so it's a quick fiddle.

edit cfg and add
seta r_gamma 1.5
seta r_gamma 2

or at least bind those two to one key :)
bind someshitz "r_gamma 1.5; r_gamma 2"
