Title: How the Sunday Deconner works
Post by: rambone on July 03, 2006, 04:10:48 am
So I come inside from gardening to do a little alien-hume battle in Trem. I log in, pick a server (it was trjw or some shit like that). Within 2 minutes there's mass deconning and spam. Next. New server, same shit, but different people. After going to 4 (yes, 4 in a row) servers and seeing spam/decon, I decided to watch instead of play. In spectator mode, this is what I saw:

1. The game is going normal
2. Someone changes their name to match someone else (an exact match).
3. Griefer starts spamming big time (makes my game freeze sporadically)/
4. Griefer calls a client kickvote on the person with the "real" name. I had to scroll through console to see this
5. Dumb ass players all vote yes and press F1. Only one other player, ExistentialRisk or something like that maybe cautioned to see who it was first. He got voted out next. Kinda funny until the next kickvote (by number) was me.
I realize there are a lot of good players on these servers, but most of you have shit for brains. Only a handful of people realized what was going on. If someone takes your name and causes spam/decon shit, don't log back in and not expect someone to kick you. I personally don't care about my name, if some deconner wants rambone, by all means, have at it.
Until they fix this name/kick bullshit, this game isn't worth the Taco Bell shit I'm about to take after this post. I'm heading back to Unreal Tournament. Call me when they institute something to fix these problems.

Oh yeah, I have been hearing people badmouth the player called D, but the one I've played with is alright by me (wish he'd stop owning me though). These people (LLJK MilMonkey or whatever) need to stop acting like there's just one person with those names. My rant is over and please think before you press F1. Fucktards :-)

I think I was there.

And he seems to like to imitate me....

Yep, I have been playing today on my friend Dolby's #Armageddon# server and this happens almost every game now. My friends and I just started playing Tremulous and we like it a lot, but this bug/hack needs to be fixed.

It's not a bug nor a hack.

It's just people acting like assholes.

Then it would be cool if they could not change their name to an existing name or if a player is muted automatically when they send tells repeatedly.

i think the simple thing to do is:
- put an "options" entry in main menu from which everybody can change nickname
- after logging in into a server, nobody can change his nickname

it could not be a difficult thing to implement, I hope..

I agree. But frankly, I say that if any player ever get kicked it's gotta be either an ass who's been assing about all day, or an UnnamedPlayer who hasn't gotten a name within 1 or 2 maps.

*shudders*
Oooh i hate being nasty :P

How about:

1. Disallowing name changes to existing names so each player has a unique name
2. Rate limit on sending repeated messages to alleviate spamming e.g. one repetition per two seconds or something.
3. Automatic kick for persistent spammers (kick after a set number of repeated message attempts)

Just my £0.02

Cheers!
