Title: Using 2 clients screws up color on all programs
Post by: fail on April 26, 2009, 08:14:47 am
When I play tremulous with 2 clients open, it causes all my programs to look really washed out(I have repeated this effect more than once). Everything is difficult to read. It even persists if I switch users. It's very annoying because the only way I can find to fix it is to restart the computer. I don't understand what is being affected here, and wonder if there is any way to reverse the effects. I am using Windows XP

If someone wants to see an image of how it looks please tell me how to include it.

Same colour depth set in both clients?

They are using the same autogen.cfg so they have to be using the same setting..
It is so weird how the problem continues when trem is not running.

Use the "Additional Options..." on the posting form to upload a screenshot of the washed out desktop.

I was about to post my screenshot when I realized that I should probably check to see that it actually looks different, when viewed without messed up colors. It doesn't. The screenshot looks perfectly normal. So I tried to take a digital camera picture instead. It didn't turn out great, but at least you can tell how the Forward button is totally invisible.

So, screenshots look alright? That's very strange. Try updating the driver of your gfx card.

Because he's doing something that needs it? (eg testing something)
Just because your small brain can't comprehend it, doesn't mean there isn't a need.  Bit like how there isn't a need for you to post in every thread.

Anyway, what graphics card you got?

Maybe the clients are messing up your gamma settings, try to set /r_overbrightbits 0, then it shouldn't change the system gamma.

I have a GeForce 7600GS
I tried setting the overbrightbits variable to 0 which had an interesting effect.  After switching between the two clients it would still cause the way other programs look to change, but the effects were not nearly as bad. It only changed the colors slightly(I can now clearly identify the Forward button); on some programs it is more noticable than others.
Also, I am curious as to whether anyone has tried to recreate this glitch on their own system.
To make it you simply open two clients, go onto a server with each one, and alt-tab between them.

You can try using windowed mode (this also means r_overbrightbits will stay 0, so a bit less fancy lighting).

Did anyone try to produce this bug?

Interestingly I just got this bug using only one client.. it was not on my normal computer though. I alt-tabbed out and into the client once. When I closed tremulous the brightness had the same glitch.

I had this bug with Radeon 9200 and old drivers. Now with Radeon X1650 it happens only when Trem crashes while playing and to fix it I need to go to Catalyst CP (I don't have to change anything, I just open it and pufffff).
