Ok first off I am really new to Linux and Ubuntu. In fact this is the first trouble I have had with a program through Ubuntu.
When running Trem after a few minutes of gameplay (sometimes seconds) the game will crash to my desktop. I will still be able to hear game sounds but I have no control over my mouse or keyboard to attempt to re-access the program or end the crashed program still running. After a little searching on the net I came across this little article: http://www.the1qwerty.com/trem-skills-7 . I was pointed to this article after reading on the forums that my problem may be due to my widescreen display. So, I followed the directions and used the in game terminal to type those 3 commands (1600 x 1050). Only now when I launch Trem it is terribly scaled down and I can barely read it. And I also still crash to the desktop.
So, I plead to you oh troubleshooting community of Tremulous, help me please. I am not a complete computer newb. I am actually a pretty descent geek. I am just really really new to Linux, < 7 days. Any directions should be sufficient for me to follow.
Thanks,

your not using compiz are you?

If it's stupidly small you probably set r_mode to 1 instead of -1. Open ~/.tremulous/base/autogen.cfg and add them to the end to change them out-of-game.
Compriz can cause problems with the fancy bits enabled, and make sure you have no screen-saver or IM or other crap thats going to force it's way on-screen. You can also alt-enter to make it windowed so you can see what's popping up, and then press ` or ~ to open the console to free the mouse.

bacon665 -> Yes I am using a version of Compiz. I believe I am using Simple Compiz but I can't be 100% with you atm as I am at work.
David -> It is a stupidly small, yes. However, the in game console is still a normal size when I activate it. So, I should be able to fix it then in the game itself? Repairing my mistakes out of the game by terminal only is doable, its just not what I would call my perferred method just yet. I am sure one day I will be as good with the terminal as the next guy, just not this week.
I will attempt to unscrewup the game for myself tonight. I will post my results then.
Thanks to you both,

When he mentoned console he wasnt talking about the terminal.
If your press the ~ key the game has its own CLI

David,
Thanks for spotting my newb error. As you thought that was the mistake I had made and now the screen size appears to be normal.
I will put a few rounds in a see if the game will be stable for me now.
Thanks again,
