Title: A few questions from a newbie
Post by: MyR on July 02, 2009, 07:44:44 pm
Greetings!

1. How do I evolve to the advanced dragoon? When I try to evolve to it from the dretch it says something like "cannot upgrade from current class".

2. If I want to evolve to a tyrant from say a marauder, does it still cost 5?

3. Does the battlesuit provide any more damage-reduction from alien attacks than light armor? It seems like whenever I upgrade to a battlesuit I die instantly and there goes 400 credits.

4. When constructing, is there any way to see how much extra power or sentience is available?

5. Is there an in-game menu for changing the key-bindings? If not how do I see what they are and/or edit them?

6. Can any weapon destroy alien structures?

7. How do I send messages with in-game chat? How do I close the chat prompt again?

8. How can I transfer credits/evo points to other players?

Thanks

1. It depends on which stage you are on at the time. In vanilla Tremulous you can evolve to advanced dragoon during only stage 3.
2. No. Only 3, since a marauder costs 2.
3. It does, but you have to use it effectively. Charging into the alien base thinking you'll be a meat shield isn't a good idea.
4. Yes. On the bottom right of your HUD.
5. You can hit ESC and then Options, and then Controls. Alternately you can change binds through the console. To see what a certain key is bound to you type "/bind [key]" without the quotes. An example would be "/bind x" which will show you what the x key is bound to. To bind something to a key, like a message, you type "/bind j say "Base Under Attack"" without the first set of quotes. You can see what each key is bound to by typing "/bindlist".
6. All human weapons kill structures. You just have to do enough damage to the structure.
7. To send a message to all players, press the t key. To send messages to only your team, press the y key. You can also send messages through the console, which you open and close with the ~ key.
8. If sharing is enabled on a server, you can share credits/evos by opening the console (~ key), and typing "/share [name] [amount]". So an example would be "/share Demo 5". You can also donate credits/evos to the team by typing "/donate [amount]".

1. How do I evolve to the advanced dragoon? When I try to evolve to it from the dretch it says something like "cannot upgrade from current class".
When that happens it means you are playing on a really shit server that changed stuff but is too incompetent to do it right.

2. If I want to evolve to a tyrant from say a marauder, does it still cost 5?
Only 3, but as I understand it upgrading from an advanced marauder would also cost 3, as the extra cost for the advancedness doesn't count towards it.

3. Does the battlesuit provide any more damage-reduction from alien attacks than light armor? It seems like whenever I upgrade to a battlesuit I die instantly and there goes 400 credits.
The battlesuit is a lot better than normal armour, although if you're playing on that shitty server with the screwed up goons then anything is possible.

7. How do I send messages with in-game chat? How do I close the chat prompt again?
Either press enter when it's empty or I think escape works.  For private messages open the console (` or ~) and type /m "name|slot#" message, where the name just needs to be part of their name, and it'll send to everyone who's name matches.  Slot numbers can be gotten from doing /!listplayers in the console.

8. How can I transfer credits/evo points to other players?
/share in the console.  However this isn't part of tremulous it's a mod most servers run.
