I decided to make a basic mapping video to supplement the mapping guide, as some people find it easier to watch a video when first starting out in radiant. The videos are currently only for the early beginner, although I plan on making more advanced ones later, based on feedback from beginning mappers.
1. just on making a basic room: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5RthO-l6eM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5RthO-l6eM)
2. doors and hallways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i_zxapcA84 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i_zxapcA84)
3. Pipespam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4DzqNoI2oo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4DzqNoI2oo)
4. Advanced Pipespam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN66OqaJQNg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN66OqaJQNg)
5. 3 point clipping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHpHP7caU8I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHpHP7caU8I)
6. Teleporting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxr_J3d_4Vw
.map files available on video descriptions.
constructive criticism pl0x ;D

I approve. I'm going to try it out.

Seems like a good idea. You are a bit mumbly/quiet at certain points, might want to make sure to be loud + clear for future videos. ;)

I have noticed stuff that needs improvement, such as talking in complete sentences. At least doing these tutorials will definitely improve my speechcraft. :D

Nice videos :P
1. Use Net Radiant, it has an option to cover all new brushes with caulk by default, shows in grid view which part will be cut off when clipping and more. Net Radiant = GTK Radiant + fixes, updates, new features.
2. To change floor into full box, you should flip on Z-axis on larger grid size and move to right height, select both, clone, rotate around X, clone, rotate around Z. Done.
3. You should always use the largest grid size on which you can do whatever you need to do.
2nd vid:
4. To select only brushes, you can show/hide entities with Alt+2
5. To make hallway, you should make only 1 wall, clip edges, then flip it to opposite side, clone both, rotate and resize.
6. Don't use hollow D: It creates a mess that you have to clean up. There are easier and faster ways.
7. If you somehow get what u did with hollow and 4 clips, then instead of clipping 8 times to match with the room brushes, you should select all 4 brushes, go to vertex mode, select from top/side view all outer verteces on 1 end and drag them where they need to be, same for other end.
8. Instead of calculating how wide the door should be, your simple hallway could have been aligned to grid better :P
9. You didn't caulk door faces that are not seen.

I am learning new stuff as I make these tutorials, thanks for constructive criticism. ;D
Third tutorial out:
3. Pipespam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4DzqNoI2oo
Edit'd in in the first post.

Hey, brain, good tutorials. Re-edit that first post, though. You've got some link breakage.

Another nice tutorial ;)
3rd vid:
1. You call the patch cylinder a brush several times ???
2. You can sometimes move lots of vertices faster if you select a whole line (or several lines) and then use the rotate buttons
-
@UniqPhoeniX:
I addressed 2. in my 4th vid: advanced pipeSpam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN66OqaJQNg
also, I made a 3point clipping tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHpHP7caU8I
It was cold, so my voice is a bit more mumbly.
Also, new feature: the .maps are available in download description ;D

An after thought, if you do any more with patches, use a different texture to better demonstrate bad texture stretching and how to fix it. C:

:o 2 more vids already!
5th vid:
1. if clipping would cut off the wrong side you can switch which side it cuts off with ctrl+enter.
Also you need some practice with quickly using the right flip/rotate buttons instead of trial & error :P
-
ty for feedback, I am out of practice with the flip/rotate tools due to recent dabbling in modeling. Also, I think I will annotate ctrl+enter into the vid. Shift+enter is the way i learned as a workaround first, so sometimes other methods slip my mind.

Nice tutorial. Great for beginners.
