Title: An address to the players
Post by: Mario on September 22, 2009, 09:47:39 pm
It's been over two years since I've posted on this forum. For those who are unfamiliar to whom I may be here's some background. I'm a 4 year almost 5 year veteran of this game; almost 8 year veteran of Gloom (Quake 2). I've been here off and on through-out my time. Before unlagged existed, before TJW and any of the ! commands. In the time here GUID's were compromised leading to people having admin on every server with GUID's. Back in the days where we complained about Luci being too strong against rants. The player base has evolved here and I'd have to say this game has changed a lot. In some situations I'm unable to tell players who have skill vs those who have modified their clients to have an unfair advantage x100 over other regulars. There are a lot of you out there who slip by undetected all of the time because you want to be #1, blah blah, what ever the situation might be. Trying to be the best at what you do shouldn't cause you to cheat. I see newer players having little chance to actually have fun. Take a minute, at least give these new players a link to this website to ask questions. I remember the good ole saying RTFM (Read the fucking manual) even when it was outdated. Players have also become more arrogant than I've ever seen in this game for some odd reason. No clue what led to this. I've mostly been sitting in spec due to a crappy connection and low end pc I've had forever. I get a few "ha ha you've been here this long and still suck" type of messages. Kinda sucks, but I live with it. Remember to have fun folks and if you see a vote kick, don't participate in kicking newer players. Explain to them you have to acutally look up to kill a human quickly. Last but not least, be fair to others who play; because it isn't that serious. Thanks.

But anyways, I mostly agree with what you say. Maybe old person's whining, but I guess I have that mindset too.  :)

I fail to see why you're complaining about arrogance... you appear to fit in quite nicely.

PS: Welcome back, no one cares.

+1 to Moose. And there aren't many good servers anymore.

Who's going to make the poll about how long we've been playing?

Ah yes.. An arrogant player making a nice respectful post on the forum. I see something wrong here.

p.s. I don't know who the fuck you are are why you even bothered posting on this thread if you do not care. I must of banned you somewhere in the last 4 years huh? Sucks for you then.

To everyone else, thanks for your time reading this post.

Blade looked at the bad thread and said NO!

So who do you think you are again? You've been here sporadically over four years, and in that time you haven't contributed to game development, the mapping community, you haven't become a community leader or server owner, and you aren't even decent at the game. You can't tell the difference between aimBotr.PL and Brian Dracone so you come here to bitch that you went into someone else's server and they ejected you for acting like a newfag?

There are many ways to contribute to this diverse and tolerant community if you are willing to look for your niche. People contribute by being active, by being competitive, by working with qvms and mods, by mapping, by running servers, by shitting out dozens of clans, by just being good at the game, and by being literate. You cannot come in here, queef this jackass holier-than-thou message, and expect to be taken seriously. It's time to face full life consequences, Maria.

Blade waited until the thread was in front of his motorcycle and backflipped off his bars and shot heads below and landed and walked fast to where the next thread was.

I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt that.

Even if Mario started playing the game before Blade did, he hasn't been as active as Blade has.
I remember seeing Mario on SST and AKKA, but other than that he often took large breaks from playing the game, his presence was little to none. It's sort of like when you have an individual design balance changes for Tremulous, when said individual has not been active for quite some time. Sure, he's probably been around a very long time, but has he been an active part of the community?
