There is a lot of unnecessary drama in this board, and pretty much nobody wants to deal with it. I was thinking of making it self-regulated similar to the server admin contacts where a thread owner (presumably a clan starter/leader) has full control over their thread. e.g. They are able to delete and edit replies, and delete the entire thread.
I have not decided if I will split the clans board into two sections like the servers, so main one is general clan type talk, and a subboard for info about each individual clan. I would love to hear your thoughts on this as well.

That, or make it so the thread starter is the only one who can reply. Keeps everyone else from whining and moaning about crap, and saves my mouse from repeated clicks on the delete button :P

Well, I can't speak for everybody here, but I think it's a win/win either way you look at it. I love the idea of having a "mod-free" zone, since you kids are akin to a venerial disease that flares up at the most inconvenient times. However, it's been a bit of a bonding experience to have everyone working together to push the mods out of the clan section on their rare, yet destructive forrays.
Also, you should unban my main account. >.>
PS: An alternative would be to allow the OP to set his/her topic up so that he/she can review each post before it actually makes it onto the thread. That would allow for a more streamlined thread, but also brings with it a whole new set of issues. So idk. Just a thought.

Off-topic, but #9 (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?action=globalAnnouncements;id=2#post_nine). Unlike your previous diatribe, this time it *is* me doing it too :P
-
being able to edit posts would be abused, and, if you can delete it, there should be something that says "this comment was removed by author."
@kaine: seeing how archangel's "one week" ban is now permanent, I wouldn't count on your account being unbanned. :P

No, this board should not be self-regulated.

I like the idea of having two separate boards: one for clan info like roster updates and once for the general flaming/drama/questions/etc.
-
we need a flame board, all forums have those :(
-
It's called the clan section already, Your face.

Especially as Flux sux at being able to post competently on forums, so all you can do instead is read.

The Idea of the author getting mod on their own thread sounds like a good Idea, but in all reality, it would be abused.
What I think is really needed, is a couple more mods/more active mods to nips Flamewars and such before they get too out of hand.
-
I think we should have the split idea.
One board where only the author of the thread can reply and it can be for clan announcments only for clan leaders. Kind of a like a clan info.
Then one for clan discussions, which would be how this board is used really and it could be either self regulated or not depending on the poll.

Doesn't get better than this.

No clans, no problems!

no, one where flames are all that's allowed to happen, and anything else is locked/deleted.

nope, people just don't care when it's not flame so they let the thread die
-
How about a "Trash" section? That's where most of the clan topics belong anyways.

+1.

Split it up: Clan Recruitment (Topic author has full control over what goes on in their recruitment/clan information thread) and a Clan Discussion run by moderators. A lot of the flaming goes on in those topics so it would take away a lot of the problem.

Would be abused a lot.

I'd prefer to opt for the idea that if you feel the need to use a so-called "flame board" then either 1) grow up, or 2) do it somewhere else.

Old people.

Smart people.
-
being mature is boooooriiiiiiiing! *SNOOZE*
-
just have it so that the person who started the topic has control, that way if they find something wrong with the post (whether it be of-topic or w/e) then they can deal with it.

I would opt for the route where instead of moderating posts you moderate participants in a conversation. Since nobody cares about teenage angst anyway they should given the choice to GTFO and do it somewhere else. My €0.02

If you do it like the servers section, where there's one section that's moderated normally and one with a `contact registry' where everyone moderates their own entry, I could see it working. Maybe you could try it for a week or so and see how much it gets abused.
Any other set up would probably be horrible.
And I think a `flame' or `spam' board would be a good idea. Even if there is no `flame' board, I want a spam board, where I can post at length about my metal cheese grater (and how smoothly it slices through that yummy cheddar) without fear of a ban or deletion.
@Rocinante: However mature you think you are, there are people who aren't so mature. Since you take care of this forum, you should care whether or not people need/want something, and think about implementing it, even if you don't agree with it (and there is no damage done). Maybe I just don't see things well enough, but it seems to me that there are enough people wanting it to at least think about it.
On a bit of off-topicness: seeing how my permanent ban has expired today, shouldn't Solar's week-long ban expire sometime soon?

Except that my goal here isn't to appease every person on the board. My goal is to make for an enjoyable experience for the majority of the people, and to make this a place where newcomers are welcome to post their ideas, ask questions without fear of being called names or given bad advice, and overall promote Tremulous as a fun game that everyone can enjoy and in which everyone can participate. Creating a place whose sole purpose is to call people various names, rant and scream about someone being stupid, call someone a moron for their idea which just wasn't thought out well enough, or whatever else would fit under the umbrella of a "flame board" is in my mind completely contrary to that goal. And it's no use saying "oh those people who don't like it can just ignore that board" because the ones who might be worth keeping around and keeping interested in the game and its community are likely to be the ones who would see that board and think, "Nevermind, they're not worth it."

12.) Moderators have the final say in these matters. Mods can delete or lock messages at any time.
Basically, a Moderator's rule is law. If you have a problem with it, use the banned user grievence form
Considering that was the second time he was banned for jokingly telling someone that 'rm -rf' would solve their problems, no I don't think it should.

This is going into effect now. Please bear with us over the next few days while we move things around

I have another question: What if the person maintaining the thread is not in the clan?
-
I kind of feel that the current "clans" section should be the child board, and the individual thread section be the main one. I know this doesn't make as much sense logically, but the individual clan thread section is going to get like 90% of the posts, and it just seems silly to have it be the child board.
-
I'm not sure you understand. I mean that the clan recruitment section (the one with many pages) should be the normal board, and this section should be the child board.

I agree, drama about a game that has nothing to do with real life,(maybe your body, depends how much you play tremulous).F1 xD
