Having troubles with Tremulous and compiz-stuff? There is a workaround. You may just open a second X-terminal and run Tremulous in it. Here's how it works:
- Go to a tty-terminal, e.g. by hitting [Ctrl] [Alt] [F1] (all keys at once)
- Log in as usual, enter your username and password
- Now type X :1 & and hit enter, a new X-session will open
- Hit [Ctrl] [Alt] [F1] again to get back to your tty-terminal
- Enter xterm -display :1 &, an xterm will be opened in your new X-session
- Hit [Ctrl] [Alt] [F8] to get to your new X-session, now you can see the xterm
- Move the mouse-cursor over the xterm to activate it.
- Enter /usr/games/tremulous or /usr/local/games/tremulous or whereever you put it to start the game
- After playing, you just may kill X with [Ctrl][Alt][Backspace] and go to your normal X with [Ctrl] [Alt] [F7]
That rids you of any problems with compiz or such.
You may go back to your usual X-session any time with ...[F7] and back to the game with ...[F8]
No similar method is possible under windows or mac, for they have other means of running their graphical interfaces.

There's also a thing that puts an icon on your toolbar to toggle compriz.
Also: "startx /path/to/trem args -- :1" saves on the xterm stuff.

some graphics drivers don't support 2 accelerated X servers at the same time, so it's far from the ultimate solution.

Interesting, I actually never experienced this, and I am using Linux for quite a time now (since 1996, actually). Interesting.

The ultimate solution to compiz is to turn it off.
It also has a nice side effect of sparing you from wobbly windows and 20 other effects happening on your screen at once.
