OK, I'll start ;):
- It's been pretty fun and educational to develop
- It helped me get my first job
- I've made a bunch of friends through it
- It's given others the opportunity to get involved with games development
- A huge number of people have had lots of fun playing it
-
-I love the binds. I blindly and madly hit my "PWNED NOOB!" bind all the time.
-The only game I've played where I can abuse other players without being the server owner.
-Newfangled games occasionally trip up my system, but the shitty graphics in Tremulous allow my FPS to remain pretty stable. And my computer is like, way less shitty than Celestial_Rage's!
THANK YOU TREMULOUS!
-
Great for time wasting, when I'm bored I can play trem :)
Got new friends from it
It brings wonderful experiences
Taught me the true meaning of the word 'tyrant' ;D
Got me into pc gaming
Thousands more things I won't list
-
I've met a lot of cool people through this game
Still have a lot of fun playing tremulous, even though i've spent many hours playing this game :-X
-
- It's awesome
- It got me into gameing
- It got me into FOSS
- I made a bunch of friends through it
- It actually ran swimmingly on my (till now) shitty hardware
- It's awesome
- Probably like 100 more things can go here
-
- Taught me the value of having a consistent code style
- Taught me the value of writing code on a better basis than "if it works it works"
- Taught me the value of revision control systems
- Dretch, Goon, and Tyrant movement and playstyles are all incredibly fun and the reason I kept playing
- More e-friends!
-
- Got to meet some very interesting people
- Fun game
- Got me into game programming
- Taught me the meaning of the word 'SOON' ;)
- And many more
Thank you Timbo :)
-
-Tremulous was the only game where I managed to hold on to for many years.
-It got me to learn and understand how to work with other teammates.
-I made a bunch of friends that I can manipulate talk to.
-Got me into open-source gaming.
-Made me reag like the hundreds of other players (OpenGL not found, FFFUUU-).
-Gave me a chance to see how a game develops.
-Surprisingly alot of people are still playing it.
-Its awesome.
Hopefully Tremulous can stay on the internets alive and well for years to come.
-
Along with the other stuff said above:
- It got me interested in environment art and game art in general.
- It's a fun, free game with well-executed original gameplay mechanics.
- It has an impressively consitent and well-realized artistic direction.
- It has provided countless hours of fun to me and many others.
Thank you Timbo, Stannum, Jex, Norf, Overflow, and everyone else for your great work and dedication <3
-
- Only game I couldn't quit
- Fun
- only game I can suck at and still be in a top clan gg
-
I will forever love Tremulous.
I got a cool T-shirt out of it all.
-
- It's a fun game to play with mechanics that aren't exhausted after a few hours
- It got me into mapping and modeling
- It provides a good example for other free game projects
- :granger:
-
- I've met people who I still talk to daily, after two years.
- Several of these people influenced my career path (computer science).
- I've experienced what it's like to be at the top of a game in terms of skill, not playing time (I hate MMOs which require you to play 8 hrs/day)
- This is by far the most fluid FPS I've ever played; everything else is too slow/clunky for me.
- It was the only game I could really play on my P.O.S. desktop with 256 RAM and integrated graphics.
- I'll have to agree with Lakitu here; it feels great to pounce-kill an entire team of S1 humans.
-
Its just extremely fun (1.2 isnt (for me))
And more importantly it retains the fun, ive been playing trem for around a year, and this is the second game which ive played for so long (the first was shut down :( WHICH IS WHY TREM MUST NEVAH DIE)
Its just the originality, the diversity of the classes and how fun they are to play as.
Also got me into mapping which is fun, and im making a map atm which im planning on actually releasing (and its awesome, no lies)
-
- The drama here is better than most reality programs.
- Open source gaming with no strings attached.
- The only game that is on every computer/partition in my home.
- The first game I download to a fresh install of Windows/Linux.
-
Ten things I love about tremulous:
- Fun
- Diverse/different
- It allowed me to see open source as not just a bunch of hippies around a campfire singing kumbaya
- Free
- Has very fast and fluid gameplay.I will not go back to slow tempo games
- Interesting people
- It helped me kick the expensive habit of always getting new games and hardware
- Allowed me to be at the top without being bound to the computer 24/7
- Allowed me to let my computer get so out of date I can justify retiring from gaming on the grounds of it being to expensive to get back in the loop
- The drama has been great and I got to vent my sadistic side as a server admin ;D
I hardly doubt ten things is enough to have kept me and others like me around for years or that the time I spent on this post is enough to get the top ten reasons. Cheers anyway to everyone who made it happen.
-
- Fun
- One of the first online games I've played, and it's the only one that I've kept playing since it's just so darn awesome
- Met awesome people
- Free
- Learned level design
- Awesome drama that just never gets old, though drama overdose occasionally occurs
-
- it gave me a way to code often(although my code may not be used much i still like to do it)
- staring at tremulous code taught me alot about how to code myself(and sometimes how not to code)
- i also like the open nature of everything noone getting caught up about the various projects that often share features etc
- showed me that FOSS games can be all about the community and there's a few servers that i have been a part of with a great one(gotta thank SST for this)
- it gave me something to bitch about with its long release cycle
-
- Very fun, fast and diverse gameplay, teamplay, RTS + FPS, wallwalking,
- short learning curve, tho takes long to master it,
- free & open source, thought me a lot about open source and game development,
- got me to learn level design,
- large community, met lots of ppl,
- <3 barbs and dretch.
-
- Great People
- Loyal player base
- Generous Server Owners
- A development team that cares
-
:-* Wallwalk - I got so motion sick the first hours... Wallwalk is the best feature I have seen in any game to make aliens different from humans
:-* The only FPS I stick to. Its fast pace makes Counterstrike look like a granny on a wheelchair
:-* A game were players actually communicate with each other instead of blindly and madly hitting the "PWNED NOOB!" bind all the time
-
- Great fun year after year
- Strong and active (though not always friendly) forum community
-
- It makes me cry thinking of how hours I've wasted trying to master my basilisk, only to give up and rant the newbies.
- I love being able to post something and actually expect to be see another 10 posts arguing about it the next day.
-I love Kevalrman
-I love the T-shirt.
-PEOPLE LISTEN TO METAL HERE!
-I can be the biggest-newb-shit ever and still own the greatest player on trem if I get lucky ;)
-

Damn right you got lucky! My mouse died on me.
-
I love you too kevlarman
-
- Lots of fun regardless regardless of graphics
- Met a lot of awesome people
- It runs on Linux <3
- Its open-source
-
- Great game play
- Some really great people
- Clans
- Cross platform
- Free
- I don't think graphics are bad if you set everything to max and you override your graphic card's AA and Anisotropic Filtering and set them both to 16x. (If you have a shitty computer, you can't complain about graphics)
-
- Got me started with using computers (Thanks to my Uncle for telling me about this game).
- Made some E-Friends that I can talk to here and then.
- Nice, Smooth gameplay.
- Easy to make machinima with because of the great FPS.
- Epic Game and I hope it grows.
-
OK, I'll start ;):

- It helped me get my first job
- I've made a bunch of friends through it
- It's given others the opportunity to get involved with games development
- A huge number of people have had lots of fun playing it
It's been quite depressing for me
I see nightmares about grangers which wake me up in the middle of the night
It helped me lose my first job and
I've lost all my real life friends because I played it too much
It's given me the opportunity to see how bad can game development go
-
Why's everyone speaking in the past tense? It sounds like you're saying good bye to Trem.. :(
Anyway,
- It looks crisp even on my rig
- It's one of the most strategic, intense and addictive FPS's I've ever played alongside BF1942. Trem still wins though because I can click the icon and be playing in 15 secs while BF1942 takes 10 minutes to start up.
- Although they sometimes are frustratingly lazy (at least it seems), I have to say the devs a cool bunch. Lots of love to you.

Damn, you beat me to it >:(
Anyway, being serious now:
- the first game I couldn't quit, and must eventually reinstall if I do manage to delete it (I did manage a period of about 1.5 years when I dropped it in late 06, but that's not the case anymore)
- I have more e-buddies than I'll ever have in real life ;)
- one of the first online games I was actually pretty interested in
- It's gotten me into further online games, since I developed a taste for multiplayer from Trem :P
- Free, and pretty portable (download is below 100 MB)
- Innovative
- Grangers
P.S. I wub kevlarman.

Also: Tremulous is one of the very few free FPS games that has decent default maps.
-
-free.
-great community.
-good default maps (some of the best q3 mapping I've seen)
-got me into mapping, even though I haven't released my first map yet
-same as above, but modeling.
-teamwork. srsly
-it has it's own memes. (GWANGA FORCE)
-kevlarman. (can we start a kevlarman fan club?)
-
- Free(of course).
- Open Source giving a lot of people a chance to be involved with the game they play from mapping/modding/making huds to whatever else you can imagine.
- A fairly large community in which I have made many many friends that I hold as dear if not more dear than some of my real life friends.
- Tremulous really pushed me into teamwork and organizing, which benefited me outside of the game as well.
- Would play on my crappy comp.
- Is one of the few games that runs off the players, servers ran by players, servers adminned by players, and almost anything else you can think of.
-
- It makes me cry thinking of how hours I've wasted trying to master my basilisk, only to give up and rant the newbies.

i think that tremulous can go a long way and hope i can keep playing for as long as I can by the way people
can none creators or something like them post art to give out some new class and level ideas?
just wondering I dont want to be a pain just asking since im new to the forums but you know
how noobs can be whatever if you can post art Id like to give you some ideas to add to the game if your interested if not whatever im okay with it.
-
Also: Tremulous is one of the very few free FPS games that has decent default maps.
Apart from acts ofcourse.
-
ATCS is a very decent map. The only reason many people don't like it any more is just because it's overplayed.

That is very true. ATCS is mainly overplayed because everyone knows it and it is almost impossible to get lost in it unless you are an idiot.
-
I agree atcs is a well known map so tthe majority likes to play on it because its
familiar. But I think most maps on tremuloous are easy to get around on with the exception of one
but overall i think the main reason is the matches go faster.
So irecommed ATCS for any new people to the game.

Meh, I find it a bit bland, and there's no possible weird base places really....
Anyways, I <3 TREM!

The things that drew me to Tremulous were more to do with the project, it's philosophy and it's community than the game itself. To be honest I spend more time modding games than actually playing them.
I ended up on these forums because I was interested in working with a GPL game engine. I did a bit of shopping around and decided that the quake3/ioquake3 engine was the one that interested me most (at least until Doom3 is GPLd). I then started looking at games that ran on quake3 derived engines that had a good user community. The three main contenders were tremulous, openarena and urban terror, so I spent some time reading the 3 forums of each. Openarena was an interesting project with a strong GPL policy, but the project was run by a single person with too much power, instead of more democratic team of devs. Urban terror had some nice points, especially their collection of textures, but their aggresively anti-modding attitude and ultra-restrictive license ruled it out for me.
Tremulous seemed like the healthiest option. It was run by a team of devs who seemed, from what I read of their posts, to be pretty reasonable people. The forum is a friendly place, with a good amount of helpful, knowledgable people. Modding is an accepted part of the culture and the media license is pretty unrestrictive. This convinced me that Tremulous was the right game for me.
-
I wish I could sig that. :P
-
- A fairly large community in which I have made many many friends that I hold as dear if not more dear than some of my real life friends.
I love you too. :)
And you too kevlarman
-
Without it I would be bored.
