Title: Start up problem
Post by: Ghosthree3 on November 12, 2009, 09:28:43 am
Yes, that's what it is, a start up problem...a big one.

I recently got a new computer and am now running Windows 7. The last time that I ran this game was with Windows XP. But now, when I run it, it flashes the console up, scrolls through the start up stuff. Then the screen goes black like it would when any game normally starts...but it stays black... The keyboard is non responsive, nothing works, it stays black until I manually reboot the computer. This happened to me about a week ago when I tried to run Diablo as well, I couldn't get it working...but I am posting here because I REALLY want to play tremulous. Has anyone had this issue or knows how to fix it?

Computer Specs:

2 x Quad Core Processors 2 GHz each
6GB of RAM
An NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 512MB Graphics Card

Would anyone know how to fix this?

I updated to the latest driver about 3 weeks ago, I'll update again...but the new version is 191.66 and my old one was 191.07...so I really don't think it will fix it.

Are there no other solutions?

Try opening console with tilde key (left of 1, below Esc). /condump file.txt to save console text and /quit to close if you manage to open it. If you used autogen.cfg files or other settings from before Windows 7, you can also try moving all autogen.cfg files and see if it starts up with default settings (in case it can't find custom HUD/menu files). Use /fs_ (tab) to see homepath and basepath locations.

If the screen is black, it might still be possible to open the console... Or you can try adding the condump and quit to the shortcut. Maybe try running the game in WinXP compatibility mode. How did you install anyway? Also for Windows 7 gfx drivers, 3 weeks could be significant considering how recent it is.

I tried compatibility mode, that didn't work, I could try condump and quit however. I installed it from the installer you download from the site. Also I know it works because the installer I used I downloaded about a year ago and gave kept it since.

anyone else got it working in winblows 7 yet?

i use exclusively linux so i cant help you much but afaik winblows 7 has big issues with OpenGL(probably intentional by Microsoft to eliminate competition) also what client are you using you *may* have more luck witha newer client( either MG trem(bit outa date next to no features), Tremfusion(very up to date but a few bugs) or FSM-trem(slightly outa date not being worked on nomore but still new enough))

what does the console(command prompt) say have you tried running it in there it should give more info.

if none of that helps it could be that tremulous just doesnt work in winblows 7 good luck though i hope my post helped a little

Firstly, I have a friend who apparently has it working. Also, I did try a few mods but to the same result. Is there a new version of tremulous being released in the future because that might fix it.

As in a full tremulous client release, that I'd need to re download the tremulous setup for?

AHA, fixed it, my firewall was asking for permission to run the game, but I couldn't access it, manually allowed it, it works.
