Hey everyone. I've made some beta wallpaper, and I'd love everyones criticism, comments, and tips. But first off, I'd like to give a huge thanks to DeadMeat (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7687), who really help teach me a lot about making these. You can find everything here (http://sites.google.com/site/kiwisrenders/) (there are both widescreen and standard screen, in both high resolution and low resolution), but I'll go ahead and show a couple of them.

Please leave all comments, criticism and tips bellow. I'd love any feedback you have, and your first impressions.
Thanks,
Kiwi
Edit: Images uploaded to a more stable hosting service, so they should stay here this time.

Looks very nice, although on the second one especially I would darken/size up the shadows a bit as their hard to see against the flat grey background and thus give the impression of floating a bit too much. You also want to watch sizes vs vertical position on the landscape. It's a human tendancy to think that the further up something is, the further away it is, so when you have no plain background, the sizes are kind of confusing and misleading, you might consider playing around with those. (For example, don't think you meant this, but the basi in front looks hueg, which could be a nice effect.
Also, the human's hair in the second.
I like them a lot, keep up the good work, and maybe some other backgrounds could like nice.

Alright, I'll try to darken the shadows a bit, and what background would you recommend? Just some atcs texture? Or should I import a whole .bsp file and use that as a background? Also, thanks for your tip on distances.
Thanks,
Kiwi

I would use the one wallpaper someone made here with the black background and "Tremulous" embossed in the middle.

1st one backgrounded.

Hmm, I'll try that and see how it comes out.

Does a background need any?

in my opinion yea

example story: human raped granger, other aliens want revenge

I think you don't really need to make it too complicated, cluttering is something you really want to avoid, _especially_ for something like a wallpaper. Keep it simple. On the other hand though, giving some more "purpose" to the piece certainly shouldn't hurt.
For example, I propose adding walls behind the human with the 90 degree meet coming at the edge of the first ninth square from the top right. Keep the walls the simple-ish gray like the floor, but change the lighting on them a bit, and/or different texture, and have the human backed into the corner with aliens coming at him. Keep the dead ones closest to him with the alive ones coming in, and maybe 1 alive one about to hit him.

Alright, I see what you guys are saying. I'll try to crowed it a bit less, I was worried I was doing that, and add some more background stuff.
Thanks for the advice,
Kiwi

Cool, I haven't had much time to work on these, due to school, but I'll try to find some time.

I made another simple render of a murauder. It's widescreen, but if you want a standard size render, just ask.

So all you did was import the models and render them in a makeshift scene?
-
Yeah, for now. I'm still learning :p hence the nice [Beta] in the title.
