I believe you, but I wanted to point out the hole in your evidence. (For most people, it didn't exist.)
Most people don't go to such great lengths to prove something that doesn't even benefit themselves so I believe him.

Not to mention the fact that even though it is a sig for an open source game, any work created by someone and not explicitly placed under a certain copyright status is automatically defaulted to Copyright All rights reserved to the creator of the work, in most all countries.
