Title: AA Server Donations
Post by: KamikOzzy on January 06, 2010, 08:59:10 am
Okay guys, here's the deal:

I loved Tremulous for a long, long time. I've played countless games for a few weeks and got bored, but Tremulous has taken up a fifth of my life, and I don't regret it much.

However, I've reached the age where it's time to move on. I've tried and failed to quit before, I know, but now it's obvious that I'm just not coming back.

I have given flux level 6 admin, and hibby is still around occasionally I do believe, but I don't plan on playing much again. I do remember, though, how bad it sucked when DarkLurker's Lair died for good, and I don't want anyone to have to feel like that over AA (not that AA in any way compares to DLL). I've got too many expenses other than tremulous now (yes, regrettably, alcohol is one of them) and I find it difficult to keep AA alive when I don't play there myself.

I want to keep hosting the server, forever if I can, but the payments are starting to get to me. As a result, though I have turned down offers for donations time and time again, I am now opening up to this possibility. I do whole-heartedly promise not to spend a dime of donations for any purpose other than maintaining the AA server on the tremulous 1.1 master list. If I receive more than enough donations to cover half of the price, I will apply whatever is left over to next month's fee. Your donations will NOT be spent on Ozzy's vodka fund.

I'm not sure if there is a safe way to display my email here, so for now PM me for my paypal account or check my profile, though I'm not sure if it's there.

Also, please accept this as my official resignation from the Tremulous community as a whole. I may still post from time to time, but I don't intend to concern myself with what happens in the course of tremulous development. I loved many of you, and I wish you all good luck in life.

Too bad Ozzy. I'd like to donate you some money to keep it up, I'm not sure how the Euro-Dollar things are at the moment, or how paypal works. I'll just try and try to send it to you in a proper way. :)

I hope we'll once have another great game at ATCS, on AA, with the AoD tag on. You were the dopest leader I've ever had in Tremulous, and I hope that this wasn't the end.

Good luck with your life, AA, College, Pot and Vodka :D

I had played at a lot of server and had been playing the game for a long time as well.  AA is one of the best sites to play and would like to offer also financial donations to AA.  I just don't know how to send it Ozzy.  Am in the Philippines and would try to find a way to send this.....maybe if you send me a post or email on how to get this donation and how much is needed to raise.   Again much sadden that you quit trem and the community will miss you a lot.

Ozzy, did you remember your first kill? How fresh and rewarding it was? Remember that, because no other game can offer anything similar.

I do hope AA stays, its quite a good server to play on and I don't think I would want it to go. Its been in that server list for as long as I can remember, like a piece of history.

You will be missed.  It was great having you, your thoughts on the forum, and your great server(I'm not sure if I can spare any money, but if you ever really need it, I can try).
Thanks for it all,
Kiwi

Edit: After posting this, I saw
... Feel free to delete this account as well, if it helps you mods sleep easily. I'm sorry for raising so much hell about 1.2, it's your fucking game. If I made a game, I'd be upset if someone told me how to develop it.
And it just made me smile  ;)

Oh, and if anybody responsible is interested in just taking it over, I might consider that. Of course that would have to go through hibby. And no, yarou, you're a malevolent piece of fuck, and you're not eligible.

I might be able to take over.  I'm already hosting a server, so another one wouldn't be that bad.  But I'm sure there are better people to be hosting it than me, so you should let them do the job when they come around ;)

Best Regards,
Kiwi

Edit: I just saw that you're hosting AA on 1.2 now, so there's no need for all that stuff I posted up there. :)

So.... -1?

I'm pretty sure kids of any age can get credit cards.

On topic. I might donate, I would be sad to see it go. If you need financial support ask. I may be able to pitch in some.

On the subject of the fate of AA, i would want it to be someone who both you and hibby agree on, and not the person who offers the most money. I'll try and donate if i can ;).

Also Ozzy, seeing as this is probably one of the last chances im gonna get to say this to you.

Server has donations will cover this month, and next month (Feb) someone else will be taking over the bills and running the show.

A talk with Hibby may prevent that, but it is indeed my general plan.

Title: Re: AA Server Donations
Post by: KamikOzzy on January 12, 2010, 07:47:06 am
It's a definite possibility. Powa has stepped in to fulfill my role at this point and time. Next month, either hibby will demand the server for himself, which of course he has first choice. If not, Powa may take over, or the server may die if neither of them (nor another candidate steps up and) decides to take over. Bottom line: I'm out. I'd like to see it survive, but the devs I have had the chance to speak with have ruined my love of the game. From here on out I don't care to be involved, so consider this my final protest: I don't see anywhere in your many stats sheets the number of 1.2 players vs the number of 1.1 loyalists, nor do I see any indication that there's been a great rise in new blood, but I believe those should be the biggest indicators of all, especially considering brand new players are apt to download the beta by default.

It's been a good run. Thank you to everyone who made my e-life much more enjoyable by playing on AA, and being a friend and/or associate. I apologize for anyone's experience I have worsened, as I really think that everyone deserves some escape from reality when they need it.

I may still be around the forums from time to time, but I have uninstalled the game, and I plan to have the password to the web server changed whenever it's clear who will be a permanent owner. Sayonara fellas.

Ciao :(

make sure you come back when 1.2.1 is released. I'd just like to have a minute rant about GPP now aswell. The only thing that i ever thought was a good counter-argument about my dislike of GPP (because everyone can tell whether or not a game is good or not in there opinion yes that was for you apple) Was that i was part of an extreme minority, that i can expect, i dont like call of duty, and i know im part of a minority on that one. However recent events have if anything completely abolished such an argument, the polls, the depreciation if GPP numbers, the fact that so few have taken an active part in the beta (you may disagree with some of those points, but you cannot deny that there are a considerable amount of 1.1 loyalists, i'd wager 50/50, but really anything over 25% is still dubious).

You cant update a game with 50% opposition.

Im not saying 1.1 is perfect. It needed rebalancing, not reinventing.

And even if your for GPP, most of the people ive spoken to would prefer a 1.1 with minute changes to balance it.

bye ozzeh

From my talks with Hibby, he has no problems with me taking over AA.

Just some things to note.

We cleaned up the ban list a lot.

It went from 280 bans to 27 bans.  (if a ban wasn't for evasion or aimbotting it got removed)

There was about 50-70 bans with the reason "fuck you"

about 70 bans from pinky that he screwed up and made perm when he meant to make them 10d.(all the way from nov and back lol)

and 100's of bans that just said banned by admin and were between 5-10 days long.

All the bans that weren't perm got set to 2 days(which they all expired yesterday) and all the perms the reason got looked at and most of them got removed.

Other than that, there are and probably wont be any changes made to the server, the idea is to keep it running almost identical to how ozzy had it.  If it's not broke don't fix it type deal.  Although we're talking about upgrading to rezyn's new tremstats(after hibby figures out whats wrong with the mysql database)

It's been a pleasure Ozzy. Playing with you although we had our differences at the end of the day it is just a fun game to play.

I consider AA like the United States of Tremulous :o if it goes than what will we do? Not alot of good servers left that have a reasonable amount of players to chill & play with.

Btw if you people ever need some money I got you covered. I got some money that I just never seem to spend on stuff like hard liquor and parties. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

You keep chill Ozzy. Good luck man

maybe you should consider revising your list of admins too, seeing as how pinky managed to fuck up pretty large  ???.

Pinky is  a VERY good admin.  Ozzy just didn't care if those bans were perm or not.  I've noticed ,however, that most people just evade bans that are longer than a few days so I see no reason to have a ban list with 300+ bans in it all perm that don't actually stop anyone from connecting.  So the new rule is ban lengths 2 days long(in hopes that people don't evade and a shorter cleaner ban list) for deconners/basenaders and 25 days for aimbots.  So far I've gone through the banlist everyday and made any adjustments necessary.  If I see someone on the list a few times they'll immediately be subnet banned for 90 days for evasion.  Past that permanent bans are just stupid.  Sure deconning ruins the game, but some people are stupid and just mess up once and then they become bitter over their lack of ability to play at one specific server making that server a target.  Plus with revert and how well everyone uses it on AA decons don't do much there.

Also, I have cleaned up the adminlist, but I haven't seen anyone that has caused any serious issues or anyone that is seriously inactive, so it's difficult for me to demote people who haven't given me a reason to demote them.  I am rejecting all new admin applications though since we just have too many.  (most of our admins are level 1 anyway so that Ozzy could keep track of them)

Can't catch you on AIM today, just wanted to make sure you know there is a cvar-set limit for the admins ban time without a certain flag. If you dont change that, they'll still only be able to ban 10d. Don't care how you do it, but I never told anyone they could only ban for a certain amount of time, cause well, good luck enforcing that effectively. For now, if you're active, I'd set the ban length to 2d and then manually adjust them longer as you see fit, but don't forget to fix that if you go inactive. Off to a party (no shit, isn't it great that I'm not playing trem for once? =D) so I'll catch ya'll later.

I'm Iván García Subero, from TRINIT Computing Asoc. Zaragoza (http://trinit.es), Spain. We love free soft and online games :P

On the next months I have to manage some LAN parties on Zaragoza, and I have though about using Tremulous as the main game. We can give some credit/donation for the use, it will be a pleasure, and I want to know if there is any merchandising about Tremulous that we can show/sell/use on the party...

You can contact me at: trinit@trinit.es

I hate to post this, because I really don't want to.  But my car broke down and I had to buy a new one, so I'm really probably going to need some help paying for AA this month.  If anyone is willing/capable of donating a little bit even 2-3 dollars to help out it'd be greatly appreciated.  Send me a pm so I can give you a paypal link.

Thank you to one person who has donated 5 dollars a month since I took over, I really appreciate it man!  You know who you are.

I would sure hate to see AA die. Right now its pretty much the only public server I play on. If I wasn't out of a job right now, I would no doubt donate to help, but I have my own servers to pay for..
Oh yeah, and does AA actually have a website? Just curious..obviously www.aatrem.com isn't.
