O hi there!
As you may know, we're quite busy with real life and working on Tremulous. I myself barely find time to contribute as much as I would, so I'd like to ask you, the community for some help!
I would love to add lots more stuff to the frontpage of tremulous.net but rarely get the time to write down all the cool happenings of the community and developers. Community Spotlight #1 was great, and I'd love to do more of that sort of stuff!
I request that you guys help out by emailing me suggestions for frontpage news, as well as suggestions for the next community spotlight which I hope to do within the next two weeks and make more of a regular feature.
If you have some suggestions for frontpage news please send them to khalsa+news [AT] mercenariesguild.net
If you have some suggestions of the Community Spotlight, please send them to khalsa+cs [AT] mercenariesguild.net
Any suggestions, images, videos, links you guys send me will be much appreciated! Hopefully with your help, I can get back posting regular updates on the homepage!

A few people already posted related content in the previous topic (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=12347.0); do you still want them e-mailed to you... or?
-
No, I will get those myself :)
Thanks

Hey awesome to see myself on the front page, kind of makes me feel like an ass for semi-abandoning the guide. I'll have to go through and finish that on thursday.

How about you fix the shadows in tremulous by making them project onto the walls (there is a way on the goldsrc engine which is almost the same shadows and renderer for shadows as the quake3/ioquake 3 engine) so how about it is it possible or not ??? :P
-
Wrong thread maybe ?
Well to answer your question: The shadows are projected correctly onto walls (at least if you use the stencil shadows), the problem with stencil shadows is that they basically darken every surface that lies within the infinite shadow volume of the shadow caster. Physically correct would be to darken only the first (nearest) surface that is within the shadow volume. (well not really correct, but...)
Of course it is possible to fix this, other games did it too, but it would be much more expensive to render and doesn't fit in the current renderer (and would also break compatibility with some old HW like Riva, Voodoo cards).
-
How about you ask Stannum how he's going on the models and report his status. Or ask Timbo about how many more bugs he's intending to fix. Or is this thread dead?

Are they ever going to update the game with new stuff. Its taking 10 years to add things that are allready done. They havent even updated the websight. Game is getting pretty boring playing the same stuff over and over...

Some here have been satisfied for years with the 1.1 If you are bored already, maybe it isn't the game for you....
Tremulous is nearly unique. Adding anything that changes it deserves lengthy consideration and feedback. Are you Pro yet? Have you explored all of the ever-increasing-number of maps? Can you get a *5* killing spree with any alien yet? I know tremulous (any FPS) can be frustrating if you don't have a T1 internet connection.

I agree with Conzul here. Try things you wouldn't normally do. If you say it's getting boring try going on a server like Map Madness on GPP.

tbh i only play trem for the community and map making. There are many far better games, even freeware ones available now. At the time of its release Trem was cool, up until about a year ago when no/lack of updates have kept the game for growing. Take a look at UrT, getting bigger and bigger everyday even though its a worse game. Updates, even minor make the game far more playable.

ummm, 1.2 ftw?

ummm, 1.2 ftw?
1.2 is hardly an update, they changed a few numbers around.... yeah that takes 4-5 years to do...
-
I take it you haven't played much 1.2 huh? It plays rather different....

Yeah I have, but I prefer 1.1 over 1.2 (as a matter of fact ive yet to encounter a person who prefers 1.2, you might be my first :)) and my point still stands, a few variable changes isnt exactly what I would call 5 year progress.
-
And the million other non-variable changes never happened?
Just because we've been using them for years (oh look, updates) that doesn't mean they didn't take a ton of work.

I could point you to plenty who prefer 1.2(myself included)
-
I figure most of the people, like myself, who are currently playing 1.2 regularly (rather than for a few weeks or a even a month) prefer it over 1.1. Otherwise wouldn't they play 1.1?

Mmmhmm. Yeah. Tremx was released 2 years ago by a *far* smaller, less experienced team with more gameplay changes + model work + weapons. Im not saying NOTHINGS CHANGED. Im saying that for 5 years work not a WHOLE lot has been changed. No new maps, no new models, no new weapons... Variable and Hud changes.
Also if you want to compare 1.1 to 1.2 (not including new players who will download 1.2 by default) how many play 1.1 and how many play 1.2?

and how many people who play 1.1 only do so because a)they're pollacks or b)they wont even try 1.2 as they are sheeple.

I also highly prefer 1.2, nubcake. In addition to all the variable changes, there have been tons of non-variable changes. Actually there aren't many things that haven't changed:
Mark decon, bp queue, build timers, free funds, score,
Humans:
ackit, blaster, painsaw, shotgun, MD, prifle, chaingun, flamer, luci;
repeaters, turrets, armory, dc, tesla;
stamina, sprint, dodge, headshot damage
Aliens:
granger slash, speed, basi gas, grab/slash ranges, heal aura; mara zap, walljumping; dragoon chomp, pounce; tyrant maul, trample;
barricades, booster, hive, hovel
hp and healing, bbox sizes
and much, much, much more (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=11859.0)
And it's 4 years... And LOTS of things have been added server-side in 1.1 since it's release, incl bug fixes and admin features, GUID...
Everyone can add a ton of single 'cool' gameplay features, but in 1.2 all the things work together much better. Many high quality models will be added. A new HUD will be made. At least 1 awesome map is being made. What more do you want?
-
A serving of fries with that :)
Really there is nothing else,
a well considered a mere figment of imagination would be porting the game over.

Great, A link to models that have been up for over a year but no closer (as far as we know) to being added to the game, and another link to USER CREATED maps. Thanks for helping prove my point.

All those user commands you added have been on the aussie server for the last 2 years. All those weapon changes ARE variable changes.
And yes, I DO understand that tose models will be added. I get it. But 5 years? 5. Most of the 'improvements' have been from third party developers ( Lakitu for example, wasnt a part of dev team till late last year)
-
It didn't took 5 years to make all those changes - balancing them took that time. Devs could only use data from few normal games a week (planned dev games) and use them to further balance those "variable changes". TremX devs paid no or very little attention on this aspect of the game.
As for "nobody likes 1.2": if that was true, people wouldn't play it. And in my subjective opinion, more and more people do play 1.2, it gains popularity.

What user commands ??? Yes, human weapon changes are variable changes, but variable or not, as I said, there aren't many things that haven't changed.
It's 4 years. FOUR. And not being part of dev team is pretty much irrelevant. Anyone can submit a patch for whatever bug/feature if they feel like it.

1.2 is out :O all I see is a Game Play Preview (Beta). What we have isn't a proper GPP, it's a beta. It's not even a 1.2 beta, it's a Game Play Preview. No-one here (apart from maybe the dev team) have Actually played 1.2. We Might say it's the closest thing to 1.2, but it's not 1.2.

Exactly, its basically a gamplay tweak of 1.1... 5 years.... fail.

That hurts Spork :(

Well you play 1.2 some.
plus, you get options c)laggy D:
