Title: Timbo: Still waiting for the announcement that the sellout is a April Fools Joke
Post by: FisherP on April 01, 2010, 06:28:47 pm: As is tradition all April Fools jokes are to be renounced by it's creator at 12 midday of April the 1st. I'm still waiting for that announcement Timbo either that, or a forum thread which confirms it.

I know... if this is a joke, like I think it is, they've gone to a lot of effort to propagate it. What I don't understand is they can go to this level of effort for a joke, but can't seem to manage a fraction of the effort it took to tell us what's really happening. The only Dev communicating anything is Norf, and I do not think lightly of this. It is pretty much a slap in the face to me, and I think all the players in the community should feel this way. It's an insult, almost enough for me to abandon Tremulous all together.

I've been away for the Easter weekend, otherwise I would have responded sooner.

Um, hearsay and Chinese whispers from people who are not developers does not count as news David. The only Dev that has posted any sort of news or progress reports on what they are doing on the forums is Norfenstein. All I've seen from the devs is an April Fools day joke that I would say took hours to set up and arrange. If they only spent each maybe 10 minutes (total of one hour which is a fraction of the time it took to set up the joke) I think that the community would be able to treat this joke as that, and not as an insult.

Seriously, All I think that the community asks for is some real news once in a while. I don't think I'm owed anything. I think the community is owed something. I understand that you have a real life, I do as well. But then I'm not on a development team for a game played by possibly hundreds. All I hear is "join the IRC" but that's OK for people who a) have it b) know what it is c) have their computers on 24/7 d) don't mind sifting through all the rubbish talk to find out the highlights.

Timbo, I've told you in the past that you've created a good game and also that I don't really care how long it takes to get 1.2 to the place that you and the dev team feel is right. I have also many, many times expressed concerns around the Dev team lack of communication with the community. All I hear is "Read it on IRC" or "Look at the SVN" both are as helpful as a hole in the head and almost impossible to sift through all the bugs, half of them either are repeats, some fixed on svn (which you don't know they are unless you cross-reference with the svn), and others we all know won't be fixed in 1.2. Real communication is that too much to ask 10 minutes of your precious time every month or two, not for me personally, for the players of your game?

EDIT: Insulting me by calling me a cunt or whatever won't work, I'm not normally that easy to insult.

It's so sad that you are correct** that there is never any updates available for the community, and "real news" is entirely inaccessible to those who want it. I'm going to go complain to the developers about this!

Khalsa, I have admitted in the past (on those exact threads regarding the GPP) that Norf seems to be the ONLY developer that seems to have any regard for publishing his progress. I have in fact applauded him on this many times if you can spend the time to read them. Regarding the Modeling for 1.2 random posts in some thread titled "Re: It's the end for 1.1: Evidence shown! Images Leaked!" is not what I consider making a public announcement.

Then there's the fact that there's more to a game than models and gameplay. There's the client, maps, the admin system... so very much more. Please Khalsa, if you are going to make an intelligent post do so, but don't assume that I'm an idiot. I can read the SVN, have done a few times. I'm looking for Norfenstein level communication from the other Dev's and heaven forbid a thread from Timbo giving something to the players of where the game is up to on a global viewpoint. The progress of 1.2 is News worthy. Players are eager for it.

And before you outright dismiss me because I'm not a sycophant I have vested 3 of my 4 years of playing this game to the Tremulous community in Australia having rcon on one of the major servers. I've had to maintain order on some of the tremulous servers, and doing that with a mixture of clients and game qvm's. I've been looking forward to 1.2 ever since TJW released a new client, and QVM. Don't talk to me about what you owe me, it's not right noone owes me because I was doing it for a game I like to play. But equally don't talk to me as if I know nothing, don't patronize me like that.
