Title: Recording Tremulous
Post by: Conzul on May 31, 2010, 04:49:35 pm
I've been using fraps to get footage for the guide I'm making, but something occured to me when I tried ~record and ~stoprecord. The builtin recording allows you to play without a framerate reduction, which means that you record at 90fps (optimally). With fraps, you can chose a smaller selection of the game to record, but you go down to 30fps in my case, which means I'll suck for the duration of the clip. So - how can I get tremulous to record straight to an avi format? Or can I? Or, can I convert the dm_70 files externally to avi?

Record a demo as normal, play it back as normal, and when it's playing back use /video to record an mpeg video.  Using /video nukes your framerate, so you can set cl_aviFrameRate to fix it.

You can directly record with /video while playing, but it's way too slow to be viable, so using a demo as an intermediary is needed.

The avi files produced are massive and with 1.1 slightly broken, so you'll need to reencode them before use.
