Title: Server Hosting
Post by: crazyamerican on June 02, 2010, 04:37:52 pm
Here's the plan:

I play on the X server all the time. So much that I stink on other servers because of it. I would like to host a local server with just my friends, but I want the server to be just like the X server. How do I do this? Please note that I know nothing of server hosting. I'm not even going to tell you what I think I need to do 'cause it probably wrong. Any help would be awesome.

To make the server like X you would need to save qvm that X uses.  The X people have never released any of that stuff, so you can't do it.

Maybe make your local server not x so you can practice and suck less everywhere else?

I don't believe this is true

http://xserverx.com/qvm/

In the server's forum there is instructions on how to get a server running, what settings you need, etc. After you get that working, you might just be able to grab the x server qvm, stick it in your base folder and off you go.

However, I agree with spork.

Would anyone be so nice as to post a guide here? I'm having a hard time finding one.

Well they didn't in the past, I don't keep up with X server stuff that much.

It seems like everything I say is out-of-date now :(

Pay $5 ever 2 weeks through Paypal and I host you a server with the X Server QVM 24/7. Pay $6 and you get SSH, FTP, and Virtual Connection to your Server. Private Message me if your interested. No site hosting.

Aren't you the guy trying to raid peoples money by hosting on something no faster than the average NAS?

Not really. Actually I'm running the servers on some else's database that they let me rent. Currently only hosting 2 but very strong and the speed for downloading and playing is incredible.
