I saw the review at GameHippo.com on this game.
I have difficulty to run even Half-Life 1 at 10 FPS in 1024x768 on my PC. Can Tremulous run?
Pentium 4 2.8@3.2GHZ 800FSB HT
1GB DDR400 DUAL CHANNEL RAM
ATI X1600PRO 512MB AGP (Probably the fault?)
SB AUDIGY2
400GB Maxtor 16MB Cache
Can Tremuluos run at low settings at 1024x768 at a decent frame rate unlike Half-Life1?

:)
I play this at 800x800x16bit (all other stuff at low) with avg 35fps on this crap:
1.8Ghz Athlon-XP M
192MB RAM
S3 GFX 64MB
30GB HDD for win xp and linux
And to answer your question: simply join a server, open the console (either ~ or ^), hit backspace, and type 'cg_drawFPS 1' (without '). After it, decide it for yourself.
-
I believe drawfps is enabled by default. As for how it will run, I can't really predict as results can vary drastically.
-
OMG Half life one was meant to run on a 366  if ur getting 10fps on hl1 then ur seriously doing something wrong :-?

Trem uses the Q3 engine. Q3 was meant to run on 1999 hardware. Go figure.
Well.... Having said that it's not quite *that* simple as many trem maps are far more complex than those of Q3, etc. But really it should run at a decent framerate any recent (i.e. 3 years old or newer) machine. I don't know what's causing the low FPS on HL1 - I got 20 FPS at 800x600 on a 400MHz box with 64MB of RAM and an 8MB graphics card. Half-life 1 was released in 1998 and written to run on the hardware of that era. Sounds like you don't have the 3D drivers for your graphics card installed.
I get 90FPS at 1280*1024, maximum quality settings, with an athlon 64 3200 (2GHz), 1GB PC2100 and a geforce5900XT AGP graphics card. Your hardware is not the fault - it should outperform mine by a long shot.
-
yaeh but HL1 was also runs on openGL  D3d drivers are not ur issue there
-
When I remember playing HL1 on Celeron 500Mhz software-only at 30fps on our school network or on my old Celeron 266Mhz with Voodoo2 at 40fps...
Mcky, you either have some severe software or hardware failure or you make bad jokes. You're not running HL1 on Wine running on Linux running in VMWare on Windows, are you?

That would explain everything

I will be glad to take that 'outdated, aging, useless computer' off your hands.
my computer, while old, is far from useless (tremulous runs at 40-90fps), and you have 6x the clock speed on my processor, 3x the clock speed and amount on my ram, and 16x the video ram.The most likely way you got those results is: you have a bunch of antivirus software running eating half your ram, but you haven't updated it in years, and the other half o.f your ram (along with most of your cpu) is taken by viruses and spyware
-
Since tremulous is based on Quake 3, which was a game aroun 2000, any computer from that era or newer should work.

I said "3D" meaning the drivers for the card in general  The driver package provides both D3D and GL iirc.
Mcky... If you are actually running it in a nest of wine-linux-vmware-windows-xen-riscos, etc then you're a kinky masochist.
Steve Balmer? is that you?

Does anyone really believe this guy? P4 2.8GHz isn't very old at all, until recently you couldn't get half gig video cards with nvidia or ati chips, and that HD is still brand new.
I have trouble believing that someone posting about their month old "outdated, aging, useless" computer has any of the components mentioned.

It is not quite outdated, but still far from impressive... ;)

Your drive is broken, installe newer drivers.

Hi, I'm new to tremulous... seems an amazing game.. I can certainly say that my nearly 3 yr old laptop with AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+ 1.8GHz, 768MB DDR RAM and ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 64MB plays the game amazingly.. so far I haven't tried lowering my CPU speed (cpu speed is increased to full power when playing games by ubuntu's powernowd like the powernow software on windows) but it certainly runs nicely at 1024x768 32bit textures at 1.8GHz... I will try it at 1.5GHz or 1.4 later because it makes my system fans go full speed at 1.8 and thats a tad annoying.. i prefer it to run cool :)
I was just going to say here that obviously that system is not particularly old.. a P4 2.8 is a bit off of the latest thing (64bit Athlon FX whatever with 3 or more GB of RAM if you can afford all that...) but the person who posted has an X1600 gfx card.. which although not the latest thing and perhaps beaten by a PCI E version is far from old.. now if my laptop can run the game with everything on full to my knowledge then that system certainly can.. hell my FSB is only 266 and they say they've got 800... we have a system with a 9250 AGP and an AMD Athlon 700 Thunderbird Slot A with 768 MB of RAM which will probably play this game nicely too.. and its a great game.....
Not to mention the person who posted only posted once.. they probably can't be bothered with this forum..
:D

Aye it was - originally. However since then the HL1 engine has become surprisingly bloated, especially with steam, and requires a much more powerful rig to run than it used to. However its rarely an issue as most people have upgraded over time, and so dont notice.
-
I thought the HL1 engine would still run on any rig... steam can be a pain especially on older pcs but it runs fine with Cedega on Linux. Unless you mean the HL1 running with the Source engine but thats HL Source.. HL1 should still run fine on any pc around the 2000 era..
although the engine has been updated to fix bugs... tbh i haven't played HL1 or CS 1.6 or anything like that since I got source.. although when i played CS 1.6 it would run on a VIA integrated graphics chip although that was on a pretty new pc.

This dude is just bitching.
