Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but I've been away from Tremulous for a long time...what happened to SST/Nuts? Last I knew the server crashed, did bissig never fix it?

As far as anyone can tell, Bissig simply vanished after saying he had rented a new server and was in the process of setting it up.
I don't think anyone has successfully received a response from him for a few months now.

I simply do not have enough time to try and bring back Nutz/SST...sorry guys. Aelita, try getting in touch with Rezyn...Perhaps he'll be interested in trying to bring it back.

Same situation here though. Never got a replay back from Bissig.
I'd love for the server to come back up though! Seems like a lot of players died (figuratively) with it. Including myself.

With this small of a player-base, it sucks to see these mini-communities die off for lack of financial/technical support. So if you guys are still interested in trying to put that server back together, i can make that a reality. We have plenty of extra bandwidth and technical know-how over here at Xserver, and i would definetely be interested in hosting that QVM.
So if interested, whichever one of you is most "informed" PM me.

Don't bother, I already offered an entire server. It appears nobody cares about it anymore, which is a shame. Even though I wasn't so fond of SST/Nuts, it did provide a good place for US players to play.

Been months since I've checked these forums. Glad I did tonight.
The server's hard drive failed, and all of the backups were lost. After a solid month of not getting any help from the tech team at the company who'd been hosting the server, Bissig decided to find a new host. The new host was slightly pricier, but he said he was willing to pay it because of the extremely good support. The new team was extremely helpful, and Bissig said that the system they used was a bit different. The last email that I got from him was on March 9th. He told me to start letting everyone know that the server would be back online within a few days, and the forums would be back online as soon as he was able to get in touch with Meow (Confess) for the IPB License. He said it would take a bit longer than usual to set this server up, as he wasn't familiar with virtualization, and their processes when it came to updating/changing files were very different from the last host, so he needed to figure everything out. After that, he stopped sending emails and stopped responding to anyone's.
My guess is he backed out..didn't want to foot the bill every month. Which I can absolutely understand. He NEVER played. He was in Germany, the majority of our players were in the US. By the time he could play, there were 2-3 people left and most of the time the 2-3 were just idle on spec. He just payed the bills every month so that all of us could play. Either that or, and hopefully this isn't it, but something could've happened to him and he isn't around any more.
Manbearpig and Aelita, I'd be very interested in talking to you about your offers if they still stand. I ran the server, along with Mario, and I'm the SST Clan Leader. If the price is right and I can get in touch with Confess, Rezyn, and Mario to get things set up, I'd be more than happy to get SST back up and running. I'll PM both of you with my contact info, and hopefully Rezyn/Confess/Mario will see this thread.

Hi, I still have an ancient back-up of the N server's setup/config. I can supply any of the qvms that were in use over the past year or two for N or SST.
Sadly, I never grabbed a backup of the SST forums.
My time is limited lately. I can assist in setting up a server, however I do not have the time to actively admin as I used to.

Sweet, the only thing i would need is access to the QVMs for both. The most recent of each would be great. Me and a couple of other guys who will make some changes (replace old admin system, add new commands, stability changes, etc) and work on getting the server up shortly.
I've been talking with Khayman as well, but i havent gotten a response just yet. Any of the prior devs/admins who worked on SST/N are still more than welcome to collaborate. It would be great to have involvement from interested former SST guys.

A message to all people that attempt to bring back SST or Nutz.
Nutz is the domain of Rezyn, it is solely his server and not mine nor was it ever Bissigs. Any attempts to bring back Nutz are to be directed at REZYN. I can lead you in any directions you need, but do NOT waste my time. The last thing I need is to have to post to a bunch of emails that come to no avail.
Now, for SST:
SST was originally founded by Myself and Paradox. Paradox formally left, and I instituted Rezyn to maintain the server. I sold the server to -the community- with Bissig as the sole keep of the server. It was his duty and responsibility to maintain the server, to which he loved to do. He did not have to, in any way, shape or form continue to pay for or maintain the server - but he did willingly. However, in his absence, since the server was sold -to the community-, it appeals to fall back on me to decide the fate of the server.
My decision was simple, based upon my circumstances. Since I cannot maintain the server for several reasons (money, time, etc, but with money being the main one), my decision is to allow another Sole person the ability to maintain and uphold SST until Bissig's return (should he ever decide to come back). It is technicolly his server, and he is the one with the rights to everything.
So, anyone that wants to bring back SST must maintain these characteristics:
SST will be ORIGINAL. No mods, no crackpot unlimited bp stuff, etc.
All settings will remain - the same -
A Plan must be setup, in full and complete, for how SST wil be brought back up. (Advertisement scheme, website, government, admins, etc)
SST must be on a -stand alone, dedicated server-. No VPSs, no Shared servers, no game hosts, etc...
An OPEN BOOK donation amount.
Any and ALL decisions will ultimately (for the time being) go through ME via email. If you can't handle being told what to do, even if you ARE paying the bills, don't - DONT - DO NOT contact me. All attempts to bring back SST have failed due to this one simple request, including Dan Locks (owner of X server's attempt). You spend thousands of dollars on something you loved, then have someone come and tell YOU how you should do it.
What -I- will offer:
My advice, support, and knowledge on every aspect of the server
My ability to get a REASONABLE (if not extraordinarily good) pricing on a server in a GOOD location. I have leeway in a few DCs that would allow me to get you a server for a good price.
The knowledge of how SST's government worked, didnt work, etc.
History - After all, knowing why things did/didnt work helps you prevent mistakes.
An 'Always recieve a reply' relationship. You will never go a time without recieving messages from me in an emergency.
So, these are my demands/request. Anyone henceforth that is TRULY interested in bringing back SST may contact me.

I don't see why it needs to be on its own dedicated machine. That's simply a waste of resources. A Tremulous server uses no more than 150MB running in my experience. I'd offer you a dedi, but the only gear I have left I've already sold to Unvanquished/Einstein. If you think you can suck it up and use a VPS, let me know, because my nodes are stable, strong, and not oversold like 99% of other VPS hosts. (Or, I could arrange colo, if you want to send a box here.)
If not, good luck with getting SST back up.

Most VPS's have random timing issues that make the server fuck up in weird and strange ways.

Bloodghost! Lol you're still alive. I miss SST too, if it would get back up that'd be great. Besides, the server where I used to play is dead and I need a new home, all reasonably crowded servers are messed up.

What? I never formally left, I just got too damn busy and couldn't keep up. I'd drop in occasionally, but it seemed like after August 2008, nothing was quite the same (player count, people, etc). I am interested in resuming trem, although I cannot give it my full time, as I have a job now (http://blog.reddit.com/2010/07/welcome-jeff.html), and have a macbook, so I gotta figure that out.

Funny, SST was always my favourite server even if I live in Europe! I'd love to see it up again.
Also Paradox, you work on Reddit? Congrats to an awesome job!
