Title: Strange Shadow thing.....
Post by: A Spork on June 26, 2010, 08:31:43 pm
So here's another issue I need help on.
I've got this strange shadow appearing on this one wall, which it only appeared when I put a doorway in.

(Pictured: Weird Shadow)
No idea how it got there, its not a brush in the wall or anything(I checked that), and when i view it from the side(Like coming out of that door way, I get a HoM Effect

It's Fine in Radiant view, can'r figure out whats up.
Help?

One perspective looks like a hole in the wall, the other looks like a solid brush sitting away from it. I'm guessing the first picture is a hole? Assuming so, that is quite curious. Any invisible brushes (ex: trigger) that might have lightmap? I'm not an expert at radiant but I would try copying and pasting the entire thing to a new map if there isn't anything there. I've heard of bugs that have invisible brushes that don't show up in the game or radiant but you can fix it by copying and pasting to a new map file.

That's all I got.

I've had invisible-brush-trouble with a decompile of Niveus, and sometimes even deleting the wrong brush and copying a similar but working brush from somewhere else to that place did not fix the problem. But then I tried clipping, and that worked. To clip a brush seems to remake it completely in its new shape. That's something you could try. Drag the brush bigger, then clip it smaller again.

You could also check if the brushes (vertexes) are perfectly aligned. Don't move them, that does totally fail in my experience with NetRadiant. Those things always have to be fixed via clipping.

And I've had a shadow problem once, too. I had a glass box directly at a wall, and a small portion of the wall had a shadow. I moved the box away from the wall a few WU. Doesn't apply here, though.

Fish: Nothing there but just the brushes that should be there, no invisible stuff

God: The clipping thing sorta helped, now its just on one of the brushes that was created with the clipping....

If there is no brushes around that should be causing a shadow try copy/pasting it into a new file. While you do it say-"See bitch, no @*$#ing brushes! What the $%#* do you want you sunufubich?!".

That's what I would do (literally).
