Title: Server Basics
Post by: crazyamerican on June 28, 2010, 01:03:51 pm
I am trying to make a small server just for me and a friend. The problem is that he doesn't live near me and I have no idea how to go about making a server. Please note this in your replies! He and I would like to have a race on mission_one_b7, but I have to make a server in order for us to do it. Please post a very noobish guide or link to one.

Thanks in advance,
crasyamerican

to make it simple for you: which version of tremulous are you playing? Default 1.1, a more recent 1.1 client, or gpp? And what OS are you using (windows, linux mac)?

Is it really that hard to use the search function? :/

Take a look at the appropriate sticky in the Servers forum (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?board=10.0). If you use Tremfusion there's already a "tremded" for you to use, so you don't have to download anything.

Don't forget to set up your router!

Do you guys really think I haven't searched?!?! The reason why I posted here is because I am a total noob at server hosting! I have no idea what a tremded is or a game.qvm or anything else the other posts talk about. I need an incredibly noobish guide to this.

I am running Tremulous 1.2 with the Tremfusion client on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid

Tremded is the dedicated server for Tremulous. Go into your Tremulous binaries area (/usr/bin/games/ maybe?) and you'll see "tremded". If you don't like Tremfusion's server use the MG one (http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/projects/mgtremded/files).

The game.qvm is the "Quake Virtual Machine", which basically says what game is going to be on your server. Download whatever one you want, I personally like Rezyn's (http://mysite.verizon.net/johne/rezynqvm.html) (link appears to be broken right now but it might be up again in a few minutes) but Lakitu7's (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8759.0) is also good.

Then use this (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8707.0) guide.

These instructions are for 1.1, if you want to set up a GPP server it might be different.

Good searching. I suppose you did not find the SERVER section?
