Title: On Booster Placement
Post by: Meisseli on July 23, 2010, 04:11:20 pm
With the new 1.2 boosters giving you an insane heal rate they are like a medistation for aliens. The boosters can be placed to abuse the map geometry so it can even heal aliens from the other side of the map. And as a big plus: you don't have to worry about the booster being destroyed, at least on the other side. Some of these boosters are great to cover both of the exits of human base with only the build points of a single booster.
Some of them have other uses.

Here are some useful boosters from the stock maps:

Arachnid2

Booster is placed near the vent in default alien base...

... and it heals in the big hall.

Booster is placed high up near the entrance to the hall and red room...

...and it heals on top of the human base, in the hallway.

Karith

Here's one in dark stairs that...

...heals in one of the corners of steam hall.

A booster in the corner of big stairs...

...that heals in the corner of the pillar room.

A really useful booster. Build it on top of the human base.

It heals from the other side of the map, human side entrance, just before pillar room.

Nano

A booster in the place of an egg in the default layout.

You can heal by hugging the wall in upper middle...

...and in the lower middle. This makes it an extremely important booster for every Nano game.

Nexus6

This is really my favourite one. Just build a booster in your default base...

...and you'll also heal in tall hall.

Niveus

A booster that heals in three different locations. The plant room...

...on top of the boxes in red room...

...and when you hug the wall in crate room.

This one is built in lamer spot...

...and it heals below you in stairs.

This one's really handy for niveus tyranting. Build on the ledge...

...and receive healing from the corridor below.

Credits go to HamStar for discovering the first "super-booster" in karith.

Hooray! On a side note, the same thing can be applied with eggs on a larger scale due to the large creep aura. Basilisks can also be used like the boosters Meisseli has mentioned.

You're favorite booster in karith isn't that easy to defend, but providing healing at both human base entrances? That really could be game-breaking.

DAY1: Meisseli becomes local celebrity due to posting of boosthaxtm

DAY200: After the devs realize the problem, remove every map except ATCS, he is burned at stake by an angry mob led by your face after learning karith is forever gone.

Good work though.

We may have exchanged our barbs in the past. Still, I'm compelled to say it:

LOL

Big deal. Aliens got nerfed enough. They were bound (mathematically speaking) to get a freebie from somewhere....

I spotted some from Tremor!

These doesnt heal max speed, but faster than normal regen!

Hey, those are some good ideas. I like the arachnid2 placements @ the hall, because that hall is a real sore spot for base attacks. Having a helping hand escaping is one hell of a tactic.

I just put them on high traffic alien spots where all aliens can reach them

This topic is not "Where do you place your booster?"

I usually place boosters in good spots that humans don't see.

UPDATE: Added nano since it seems to be a new default map. (Thanks HamStar!)

@DraZiLoX: Those Tremor ones are really not what I meant with the topic since they only provide creep healing. (Which comes from an egg)

Other than that, found a placement in ATCS but it wasn't good enough to be used efficiently.

And yes, eggs have a longer range and can therefore be used much more efficiently though they provide a much slower healing rate.

UPDATE: Never realized it up until now but the nano booster heals also in lower middle. This makes the booster an essential one in every Nano game.

Useful and earned it. Keep at it, maybe write (parts of) a new guide for the gpp/1.2 to replace my now ancient and outdated guides.

Thanks :) In fact, I have a full guide on human building under construction.
