Title: Bases Problem
Post by: Checkpoint on July 26, 2006, 02:34:34 am
I think the bases thing is mixed up.

Aliens bases are weak by themselves, but aliens don't NEED the base, meaning that they're that much weaker.

Humans bases are quite strong, however, the humans rely a lot on the base, making them stronger.

Basically, Aliens bases should have to rely on their bases somehow, and the humans not so much. The way it is, the base strength strongly favors the humans.

....wow... I think this is backwards a bit.
Being tethered to a base does not make you strong..
The alien base is sort of weak, but the aliens have more versatility. They can run out in the middle of nowhere and build an egg. The humans have to fight to get out of their base most of the time, because the whole level will become the alien base if you have a competant alien team.
Its a difference in how you use them.. there is a balance.

The bases work out alright when used well, its just how the players function.

The best human strategy involves quick strikes on eggs and builders, but this rarely happens as humans don't seem to work together as much as aliens do. So when you're outside of the base you're mostly alien food while your teammates wait at base for enough credits so everyone and their pet dog can had a battesuit and powerful gun. The irony here is that the moment they see an alien they still flee back to base which is kinda silly.

This is why the base thing is a bit of an illusion, if you had goons and tyrants camping the alien base it would be just as strong.

Um... Aliens need their base as much as anyone. Their defenses are weak, though: if humans control the map and the aliens are pinned in their base, it's just a matter of time before the humans take down the acid tubes and destroy the base. Fortunately, aliens are usually in a position to control at least their half of the map, if not the entire map.

The reason human defenses are so strong is to stop the agressive stage 1 and 2 aliens from completely raping the human base and ending the game 5 minutes in. Not only does it prevent the alien team from winning by agression alone, but it also means that the entire team can leave the base for short periods of time (assuming there's a good turret layout). So, in a way it helps humans get out of the base, because they know that it can survive by itself for a while if the layout is good.

(of course, this all changes in s3, when no base is safe by itself)
