Title: Weapon usage on US Main.
Post by: kharnov on September 02, 2010, 01:29:26 am
I used the top 50 players by kills as my sample group. This is what I got.

And here's the raw data. I'll do more of these for other sample groups, by the way. Just ask.

Code: [Select]
Alien Poison 1768
Basilisk Claw 2835
Blaster 797
Chaingun 8839
Dragoon Barb 1584
Dragoon Claw 10607
Dragoon Pounce 13972
Dretch Bite 16236
Flamer Splash 52
Flamer 767
Granger Claw 35
Granger Spit 5
Grenade 3093
Hive 9
Human Building Explosion 212
Lasgun 13547
Lucifer Cannon Splash 5557
Lucifer Cannon 5182
Marauder Zap 3740
Marauders Claw 8517
Mass Driver 15863
Painsaw 2811
Pulse Rifle 3960
Rifle 19611
Shotgun 4144
Teleport 50
Tyrant Claw 5008
Tyrant Crush 138
Tyrant Trample 3783

You people use the blaster more than the flamer? I'm sad now.

So why is Hive included in the list as a weapon whereas acid tube is not?

I have no idea. Hive kills have always been around. Maybe Rezyn can explain.

Probably something to do with the fact that the hive is a weapon internally. I think, at least.

Some relative usages of forms/weapons to each other. Get the shotguns out more, goons are the single most used form.

So, you mean to tell me, that the BLASTER has more kills than the flamethrower!?!
I'm smelling some BS.

Not hard to imagine that, honestly.

I know that I personally haven't used the flamethrower more than ten times since I've played GPP.

It's a pretty rare weapon because of its limited usefulness.

It's a pretty rare weapon...

It should cost more, then.

It should cost more, then.

Or it could be more functional...

Nice stats but 3D pie charts are silly. They change the amount of colour dedicated to each slice based on the rotation of the chart.

And the stats are a bit flawed for usage. They count kills, not usage. It's possible that a weapon is used more often than is represented on your chart but kills less.

It's a pretty rare weapon...

It should cost more, then.

I assume you misunderstood the term because of supply and demand (eg. diamonds are rare so they cost more). The supply of flamethrowers is not limited; the use of the weapon is low. This would suggest the opposite of what you propose. The demand is low and supply is high so the cost of flamethrowers should be low.

But Tremulous is not a reimplementation of capitalism.

Heh, that would be kinda sick if the armory was like a dynamic market that had rising and falling prices based on what players are all trying to use. With so many roots in the fascist universe of starship troopers, I almost think that would be kind of cool.

Rifles would be worth 2000c.

Indeed.
Tremulous is a reimplementation of communism on the means of starting weapon. :P

1.1 was communist because it allowed fund sharing X]
Title: Re: Weapon usage on US Main.
Post by: Aelita on September 02, 2010, 09:52:45 pm
Actually, 1.1 didn't have fund sharing, the ability was added by various QVM patches which became commonplace. Any decent server (*cough<3cough*) would play with it disabled, giving you close to vanilla gameplay.

Shotgun is waay lower than it used to be.

Shotgun is funny weapon because blood means that you probably didn't hit the alien, and if you shoot it right behind him, you will probably kill it (even when there's no blood). It's only the case when using this weapon (no matter when I have 50 and 160 ping) on unlagged :P

It's still kickass weapon and will become even more sexy when 1.2 is out :P

Did you use the top 50 players ranked by effeciency? Because if so, I would think it would make more sense to use the top 50 players ranked by kills.  :-\

Errr, I'd tend to disagree Leca. The way I see it is, well, someone with a good efficiency will be (presumably) more well rounded than everyone else, and be more likely to show drastic differences in weapon usages due to, well, their usefulness.
That's just my take on it though, I see your point too.

That's the problem though. Most of the top effency players specialise in one weapon and use it more than others.

Amgh - Humans (I guess he doesn't like aliens ???)
Johnny - Mara Claw
Aequitas - MD
Meisseli - Chaingun/MD
Warlock - Lasgun
Hamstar - Lasgun
Lecavalier - Dragoon Chomp
Dragonzord - Pulse Rifle
UnnamedPlayer - Lasgun
Net_Giant - Lasgun

these are the weapons that the top ten players use the most, and most of those are by a considerably margin(most). I would think that If they did use the most usefull weapons for their usefullness, there wouldn't be so much variety. IMO It doesn't show so much usefullness as it does player prefrence.

edit: apparently spell check changes lasgun to lasagna
