Its very frustrating playing when there are 4-5x as many "pro" players on one team as another. How should one deal with stax like this?

beat the pros

beat the pros
+1
-
Get hacks like all pros.
-
Accuse the pros of hacking.
-
Get accused of being pro.
-
Headbite the pro while he's typing 'im not hacking spec me'.
-
Climb the highest mountain.
Punch God in the face.
Wait a minute, that's not right.
-
Silly freezway there are no pro's left in tremulous.

There are? No. 'Pro' is 'Left' in tremulous.
Damn liberals.

I was using it as a possessive
-
And I was using it as a contraction of "pro is".
Suprised you didn't get that since it's basically a different version of the same joke.
-
No, i got it, just was asplainin, making sure you got it.

Camp, like most people do.
-
Pros? Nobody is getting paid to play Tremulous.
-
Pros? As opposed to Cons?
-
Pros as in people who are good at the game.

Just join the other team and be a winner or you can leave and be a sore loser or be brave and stay on your own team. ;)

Well I think that's all bases covered.
-
All you need is to have faith in yourself and you will achieve the impossible. No stax can stand between you and victory.

But some try to implement mechanisms to mitigate it. !teams & !shuffle would be great to have available, perhaps for L1 and L2 admins respectively.

Or shuffle/scramble votes. "/callvote scramble", anyone?

shuffle often makes stacks worse atleast in wolf-et and etqw it always did better for players to fix the stax but sad thing is they dont

TF2 uses a basic algorithm based on the combined scores of each team. It seems to work decently well.

There's no fool proof algorithm but yes, this could work nicely.
-
Oh please, do I really want to switch teams every two and a half minutes. People want to enjoy a game in one team and one team only.
-
Oh please, do I really want to switch teams once or twice per game if they're stacked. Maybe. If I even get switched at all.

-
Stacked teams is fine. The game just ends quickly. And even if the teams are stacked, if you guys have the presence of mind to use teamwork, things could easily go the other way. Most stacked teams generally have a solo player doing most of the work. 1 Good player vs 5 Ok players, 5 Ok players win.
-
in theory…
-
in theory…
Not in theory celest is right.
I was playing and while no one really any good was on and I was easily the best player on. All the decent players were on H and I only had a couple of really bad noobs and I got smashed that round even though I had 4 or 5x the score of anyone else playing. 5 OK players using teamwork will always trump 1 good player.
-
Switch the team of 1/2 of the players once or twice a game and there will surely be no players left to play with.
-
I don't think you've played TF2. TF2 players don't whine about getting switched as much as you do. How would you explain that?
I'll take either "because it isn't that bad" or "because I like to whine" as answers.

I like to whine! :( :(
-
Because in TF2, the teams are identical.
Also, from what little of it I know, TF2's system is anything but simple.
-
Tactical nuke or EMP.

5 average players vs 1 very good player is different from 5 average players vs 1 very good player and 4 crap players providing the 5 average enemies with a constant supply of free credits.

Because the objective system in TF2 or other similar FPS is different from Tremulous. If I got switched teams in a team deathmatch, I wouldn't mind so much. If I've just spent 10 minutes killing the aliens base and then get swapped to alien, it's not so fun. Different games.

You're makeing the other team seem stacked in this example. ??? :turret:
Also, 1 good player, does not count as stack. :police:
-
There's payload mode too. Just replace "killing the aliens base" with "pushing the cart" and "alien" with "RED".
-
What I meant was that most good players tend to go solo. There could be more than one good player. So, 5 Ok people corner one solo good player, and if they consistently repeat this, good things will happen. (Assuming the solo player realizes he's getting his ass kicked and decides to bring a friend, but by that time, you have a bunch of evos/creds)
-
If the teams truly are stacked, not a lot can be done except your best. As humans camp a bit more than normal, as aliens the same and either way, make sure there's a dedicated builder, because with a stack, the base is gunna get raped... repeatedly. Don't hope to win the game, unless by some miracle you manage to get S3 before they get S2, or you managed to get some good players join up and go into the slots left open by cowards specing out of aliens (this has happened to me on quite a few occasions).
Just remember it's a game, against a stacked team you'll most likely lose so don't play it to win. There's nothing riding on whether you win or lose, just play to have fun.
-
Damn, I'm starting to moving in every game to team where is best players, and before that, I tried to keep game fair. :'(

Oh, don't worry. The noobs have figured this tactic out all on their own.
...Though, I'd appreciate it if you didn't encourage them.

for players with less than perfect skills, opponent stacking can offer the possibility to play a leading role on the sucker side, wich can be fun, and can fruit valuable experience.
playing against the good ones is more fun, i always join the weaker team if i can. (hence making it even weaker with 20+death assured :-D)

That's actually some great advice. My first choice is always Aliens and it may just be because I've spent way more time on their side, but it seems that baby-fresh noobs always want to try Aliens first. This usually leads to a few unfortunate rounds a night where Humans get fed to s3 before Aliens can even come close to s2.
That being said, it's in those rounds that I usually get to shine the brightest... Right before my candle is, of course, quickly and irreversibly snuffed out.
A little while back, there was a stacked round on A.T.C.S. where my Mara had to single-handedly hold off what seemed to be an endless cycle of well-fed humans rushing the hallway by head-hopping for all I was worth and then letting out a zap as I retreated towards H-base, leading them back into their own default and then trying to make it out through the front alive.
Using this pattern, not only was I able to keep most of a better-equipped team out of our base until 10 minutes after SD, but also eventually netted one of my best kill/death ratios ever while an endless interchanging loop of the Rocky theme song and Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" played in my head...
And I've got to admit, even though we eventually lost, it was still one of the most enjoyable rounds of Tremulous that I had ever played. I'm also pretty sure I was a better player when the round was done. Now, when I get stacked against, I just try to make it as hard as possible (that's what she said) for the other team to win and hope that I learn something in the process.

Neither do I. I like staying to one team. But maybe a shuffle before each game, or before every two or three games, that could do it. Hope this helps.

the entire Internet.
What. The user counter is not right.
-
The games get stacked regularly simply out of chance, or because a large part of the better players prefer humans (seems it looking at the times).
As far as handling it goes, you can't unless you set shitty rules and be a shitty admin. Major stacking should be expected now that there is such a small amount of really good players actively playing.
