PLAYER: Jimbo
MAP: ATCS
TEAMS: GOOD, balanced
SERVER: #db tremulous.info Alpha
A quick show of what a dragoon can do, and how it has to be played.
I will try to make demos of every alien and how it can/should be played.
NOTE:
*.dm_69 files are quake demo files. to play them copy them to your /base directory, go into tremulous, open console, and type /demo <filename>.

Erm... what's the relation between happening to be in a game with a good Dragoon player, and knowing how to record a demo? It really doesn't take much skill to join a game and notice that a player on your team is good with a Dragoon, I don't see how that should magically teach you how to record demos.
Anyway, I have yet to watch it, but this is a good idea. You should probably give viewing instructions though, since newbies who want to see this won't know where to save it or how to view it.

*yawns* read the note.
if someone is a good player with the dragoon, you cant say that from only spectating (floating around) but only if you follow. and to follow a player, you need to know the console-commands, thats the point.

What console commands? Clicking the mouse wheel is not console command. That's all you have to do to toggle first-person view. And when you want to change the player you follow, just turn the mouse wheel.

aw god, just go away from this thread
its for colecting information usefull for players
-
to follow a player, you need to know the console-commands, thats the point.
1. Join spectator mode
2. Press middle mouse button
3. Use scroll wheel to cycle through players
All it takes is to have tutorial mode on, and even an idiot can figure that out. o_O
Also I tried playing it and it just gave me the error "could not open demos/jimbo.dm_69"

thanks ghost
and thats like 1-2-3.......7 letters, which probably took u a whole 4 sec to type? soooo why is 4 secs of ur life SLAVE|Mietz so inportant to you that u cant use it to help other people?
but.....

Maybe because he put some effort in a thing and you tell him it's "not too impressive". These words coming from a newbee don't count much here ;)
Or maybe because you are using "u", "ur", bad grammatics and that stuff. If you don't care enough to write reasonable sentences, many people will consider this as disrespectfulness. Sure you can write this way, but you'll have to live with the fact that some people won't answer you than.

thank you for rescue

To be honest, I didn't think the demo was all that great either, looks like Jimbo is a good player having a below average game, or he wasn't particularly interested in winning that match. The one time he looks at the human base and it's an almost undefended all-tesla defense, but he doesn't immediately bring in a goon to snipe the DCC and go to town on the base?
I did like the pounce > 180 > snipe trickshot though.

Watch who played that game, there were semi-pro gamers so even jimbo had a hard time.
And Jimbo is not really interested in destroying defenses, he is more the human-chomping alien support.
PPL having specialisations, so they are not always winners of the game.

Okay, SLAVE, we get it.
Easy on the bitching now, no need to get cranky :D
I didn't thought it was that good either (and i tried tabbing to see the playerlist but it booted me back to menu -_- )

Oh no, someone taught Mietz something blatantly obvious that he didn't know... I guess the only reaction to that would be to try to make fun of the guy who taught you something... :( I'm sad
Sarcasm aside, lighten up. There's no reason to get bitchy with people just because you were wrong on an issue that barely matters. On a serious note, I still can't get that demo working.. >_> I'll have to try recording a test one to see if I can view A demo, or if something is messed somehow.
*expects another "omg u suk leave this thred n00b go die" reply, e_e*

DID you copy the file into the demo folder like tremulous expects it?
DID you then (if not the above) specify the EXACT path to that file (including no typos etc. pp.)?
An EXACT path looks like this: C:\blahblah\xxx\tremulous\dingensteil\jimbo.dm_69
i'm so sorry that i never used the tutorial mode but configured my binds etc. by hand in the *.cfg files.
And i'm so sorry not to bother to use the middle key but use console commands insted because i feel more comfortable with.
SORRRIIIIIIEEEEEEEH!!!!
-
Ah, I'd never recorded a demo before, so it never created the demos folder. Works fine in base2/demos, watching now.
-
This is the result of playing a whole month in your basement, outside of any kind of real life.
Could someone says gratz to Jimbo from me ?
-
Yeah, I just don't understand how some people get so good at games >_> I suck as a goon, so this is pretty helpful.
These demos are a good idea, Mietz. Keep 'em up if you can.
-
ah, Belier, my favourite troll ;)
Was about time for you to write something...i almost thought you'd troll in other forums now. Thank god you're still here ;)
/me hugs Belier13

So Mietz, in spectator mode is there some command you can bind to jump straight to viewing a particular player? It would be really handy for the tutorial demo project if there is. Or do you just have weapnext and weapprev bound to something other than mousewheel?
-
no i just type /follow <playername> i feel more comfortable with
stahlsau as marauder, not so leet, but gives the impression of how to play marauder (hit and run)
http://user.uni-frankfurt.de/~adamkiew/stahlsau.dm_69
-
The marauder one was only ok... mostly he just did suicide zap runs into the enemy base, and they just repaired everything in between. It shows both what to do, and what NOT to do unless you know you can pull it off.
Also, I recorded a short (>5 mins or so) demo of, ah, I forget his name, the Killaz guy who's name starts with "Bone". Either way, I recorded him as a Tyrant for a little while. I realise there isn't all that much finesse to the Tyrant, but it'd still be useful to newer players I think.
Either way, if you want it, just ask. Just thought I'd contribute what little demos I have o_O
-
its "Trombone" i think if you mean him, and you can post it as long as it is relevant.
-

/me bitchslapps Mietz :barricade:
Well, i suck with marauder. Maybe it would be better to show someone who rules with it. This is more a demo of how to NOT using it ;)
-

haha, that's what I was saying. Parts of it are well done, with the hit-and-run tactics as mentioned by Mietz, but the base attacks were almost as bad as me :P
See, I'm about average as each class... Which is annoying, I'd rather suck as Marauder and own as Dragoon or something, but instead I'm average with all of them... Maybe I'll start recording myself playing, on the rare chance that I have a super-1337 game >_>
Also, looking at it again, the tyrant demo isn't all that useful.. it's mostly just how to back off to recover hp. But if I see any good players owning as one evo, I'll be sure to try to record them.

How do you guys know you'll have a game worthy to record?
Or do you just record everything and hope you have a good game?
(i'm going to record some Adv/ Mara stuff too :D )
