Title: 2 MAPS "Who wants to complete it"
Post by: Firstinaction on October 30, 2010, 03:16:36 pm
Hey guys and gals I just want too share something with you all.

REASON:  My computer has crashed about 3 or 4 weeks ago, which lead me to play trem and do a little mapping on my dads computer. (Only on the weekend) so while I'm at my house while my dad is out fixing my Macintosh laptop I have been working on my Dino PC laptop.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT": I would like one of you "motivated" mappers to just build my two maps in the pk3 and let it be playable for everyone. I cant build my map on my PC because (1) It took 2 days for a test build and (2) I have no clue on how to pack the map into a pk3.

"DO I have too or are you going to give me anything":??? Yea this is optional and yea "DUHH" it is. But these maps were accomplishments that I did, "and I'm exceeding in mapping everyday or so". But I guess I can give you (Whoever) completes this something you would want. (As in 3d model (gun model or weapon) I can use blender to model on my dads mac)

The "down" Low: O.K both of my maps are pretty much blank from when I transported it from my PC to my dads mac. I really have no clue why the texture is not showing. The texture I use was from station-15beta 2. That's pretty much the only texture that will no show on my map. I used karith and station_15 beta2 but only karith shows on my map ventech.

"WERE IS IT": O.K its on my websight. ( I updated it prior from posting this) IT's under mapping news(Orange) on the first page(there are 2 blue text and those are the map names. Just click it and you can download it. The maps are called mecka and ventech.    The test50 is ventech.

"YOU SUCK": You can flame me all you want for posting this. ("SHOOT ME") I probably will not read it and reply to it within a week of time. I probably will not reply too you rude comment.

O>K: "Thanks in advance". If you happen too build my two maps. please P.M me on here and send me the map/maps to my email. (But P.M me first)

YOU read his posts carefully. He's asking someone to compile his map for him because, although he got it on his dad's computer, he doesn't know now to compile properly or how to pack a .pk3.

For me is clear enough that his main problem is broken PC. Ye, he have some build troubles and dont know how make pk3, but... in fact even if he know how do it he still have no pc and have rare access to dad's mac. =D

Regardless of whether or not his PC crashed, though, he has time to map and so he has time to compile a map (if it's constructed properly). : )

Well i looked at the maps and the reason why it takes 2 days to testbuild is simple. You have already been told (not by me) in 2 other threads but again:

You are using no details.

How to make a detail?
You can make a brush to a detail by selecting it and pressing ctrl+M. You can disable/enable showing details on the screen by pressing ctrl+D.

Where to place details?
Details should be used on anything that's not a wall, floor, ceiling, skybox or everything else that is a 'border' of the map. For example the pillars in the human base on mecka should be set to detail. Patches can't be set to detail, but they already act like one.

What's the point in setting details?
(I got no idea how to explain it well, but I'll try). While compiling, the map is separated into many areas. Those areas are created between the brushes. The more brushes, the more areas.
Those areas are afterwards connected 1 by 1, to see which areas are visible from others. (For more information visit http://tremmapping.pbworks.com/Understanding%20Vis%20and%20Hint%20Brushes (http://tremmapping.pbworks.com/Understanding%20Vis%20and%20Hint%20Brushes)) This takes ages to compile if there are too many areas. This is most likely what is making you trouble.
Setting a brush to detail makes it having no impact on the creation of areas, meaning there will be far less of them. This in turn reduces the time to compile significantly.

As for the textures and pk3 creation:

You should never use textures directly from other maps. You'll have to put the textures in the texture folder of your maps pk3, and ofc use them from there. If you use other peoples textures, make sure you are allowed to and give credit.

You can see what layout your pk3 should have by looking at the default maps. The way of creating a pk3 is simply by packing the folders and files you need to a .zip and rename it to a .pk3.

Only when you have the nonstructural brushes selected.
Seriously, go read the tutorials.
