I don't know if it's the right place for suggestion, but there is not suggestions forum =S
So my first suggestion is as in written in the title having all UI texts in a txt file so that people could make translation for their own language, it would expand tremulous comunity a bit, I tried once to make some friends play tremulous, but they couldn't understand anything at english.
My second suggestion would be in the following of the first, making a tutorial with a step by step explanation of the game on a pop up screen on wich you'd have to press "ok" to continue because that kind of tutorials with text while playing usualy let's you get distracted and you avoid reading. Of course this tutorial could be translated as well since it would be text, cool stuff huh?
Now I dunno if this is planned for 1.2 already, but well it would be cool to have a nicer UI, friendly UIs makes you want to try the game, it gives the feel of professional work. I don't know for you but when I start a game for the first time and see a crappy menu, I have that feeling that it's an unfinished game, And most of times this happens to be true.
Next suggestion is probably going to make me look like a troll because some things like this have been discussed again and again, but even tough you don't want to update the graphic engine, I'd think it cool to allow higher resolution texture ON WEAPONS (it's the first thing you see on the screen)
Even if it was possible to implement a cheap normal map or so :-° or even having more polys, but you know, just on weapons ...
Please tell me what do you think of these?

Lots of the UI stuff can be translated via a custom hud.
Lots of the rest of it is sent from the server as text, so the server would have to do the translation.

Then the server sends a text id and the client translates from there.

Devs must implement unicode in q3 engine before any attempts to 'translation' and other native things.

If you mean tutorial like UrT, Warsaw, and Nexuiz has, yes, Trem needs it.
-
Someone was working on a single player type experience at one point, but that fell through.

Yeah, Kind of, except that Warsow and Nexuiz tutorials are unfinished, and since the type of tutorial would be more complicated for trem, that pop up screen explaining you what human base does etc, then you press okay you see what h base looks like and what it does, and go to next room.

I like it. 1.2 needs it. Devs should make one.

I presume Warsaw is the first city to have an interactive tutorial. Pollacks do it better. ;)

For sure.

Quoted for truth, a tutorial would be great. Most games with a single-player campaign (ie CoD) can just integrate it into that, but since Tremulous is purely multiplayer, obviously that won't work. Maybe have a few short "missions" with bots in various parts of ATCS, ie "Press Left Mouse to build a :turret: and stop the incoming :dretch:" or "(gives player 3 evosfrags) Press Q to evolve to :dragoon:... Now hold down Right Mouse and release it to pounce on the :human: target"

Hmmmm.
A youtube video could work with some basic video editing. Coding in a tutorial sounds rather complex for anybody whom is familiar with the quake engine.

A tutorial could be just a demofile like in UrT: two players, some /cp messages and /map_restart where needed.

Yup, that's the way to go. And there is /play [sound] for sound playback.

Though problem with CP is that once it disapeared, if you haven't read it all, you won't be able to read it again, that's why I think a pop up screen would fit better. Even maybe with a way to click on 'previous' if you don't remember ...
