Hi,Im setting up a Tremulous dedicated linux server and need to know what i could do to tweak the settings to make sure for a serverside lag free enviroment.
Here are the specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
2x 1024 MB DDRII PC667 RAM
100 MBit Unlimited
One setting i know is Unlagged On or Off, some people love it some hate it, but i prefer Unlagged off.
i would like to know what these settings do and how to combind them.the server will have 24 or more slots if possible.
g_skipCorrection
sv_maxfps
sv_fps
sv_minSnaps
sv_minRate
sv_maxRate
maybe there are other cvars missing that i didnt mention.
-
g_skipCorrection: Doesn't seem to exist.
sv_maxfps: Doesn't seem to exist.
sv_fps: The framerate of the server. I seem to recall this being tied in with snaps somehow, so probably best to not touch it.
sv_minSnaps: Again, doesn't seem to exist.
sv_minRate & sv_maxRate: Set the max and min rate clients are allowed to use. Min should be 3000 (client default) and max is normally 25000.

Isn't the command for max fps com_maxfps ?

I believe com_ is client-side and the other is server-side.
This (http://forum.drc.su/quake-iii-cl-maxpackets-sv-fps-and-com-maxfps-explained-vt1103.html) if anything.

i cant believe that nothing about this topic exists anywhere on this forum, but when i google it i get all kinds of old information about old q3 server configurations that do not apply to tremulous.
i found a lot of server configurations here on tremulous.net, but not why they are set like that. the info on how to install a tremulous server is given, but now how to tweak it.
the cvars i posted was only an example of that info. if anyone knows more, then lets share these secret ninja settings for servers to keep a great game like this running
the settings i found along the way are these:
g_skipCorrection
sv_maxfps
sv_fps
sv_minSnaps
sv_minRate
sv_maxRate
g_maxwarp
strange not to see anything about this here, being the age of this great game.
ps. maybe server cvars with Explanations of why settings should be that way.

If dealing with lag, the defaults are best except for g_unlagged (at least I think that's what its called) which some people like and others do not. However in the US, unlagged on is the norm, and the EU, unlagged off is the norm. Other than that, just read the appropriate stickies and you'll be fine lag-wise.

No, EU is unlagged.

No, EU is unlagged.
Aren't there more servers in the EU than the official GPP server ?

None that have players other than in 1.1. Unlagged seems to be the norm in 1.2 no matter the location. I for one have "converted" since most of the players/clans you'll be playing against in GPP are US anyways and unlagged works a lot better than it used to in 1.1. Not sure which one I'd prefer if there would be a low-ping server with players for me.

Hi sry for the late reply (i forgot to follow on my own post :-[). like F50 said the default settings is the best way to go.
thx all.

I think they might be talking about 1.1, not GPP. But I didn't see any specification about what version they were using. I agree that unlagged is the norm for GPP now, and that's because GPP was balanced based on unlagged being on. It's quite sad :(
