One of the things that set Tremulous apart from the more-popular FPSses like Eliminate, CoD, and Halo is the absence of a really great, high-power, scoped sniper-type rifles able to kill an opponent with a single shot in a vital area. What on earth could be more fun that the adrenaline-laced moment of lining up an alien in the crosshairs, squeezing (pressing) the trigger, and seeing the satisfying spray of blood and the inevitable collapse of the Tyrant? Not much. So if anyone is in close with the Big Guys, the head programmers, consider this my official request: I (and most likely several others) would like to see the release of a scoped, high-powered sniper type weapon on Tremulous in the near future. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Mass Driver is as close as you will get.

Mass-driver... LETS DRIVE SOME ALIENS/Unknown author/
40hp damage for a single shot? 1 shot a second? single shot dretches, and easily takes care of grangers and basilisks and a bit of maras. Most accurate weapon and has a scope to zoom in.
1 shot killing a goon would be the lamest thing you will ever see and Trem doesn't have such maps for real sniping - if there is, then the aliens are slightly getting disadvantages, I wouldn't want these disadvantages to become even worse. Not even talking about jet-camping. ATCS jet campers with a super-sniper? 1 shot rants and goons? Seriously? Go get MD, I don't want another lame CoD copy.

He just said gaming was for "rich white guys like Roger Federer", so I doubt it.

Shouldn't this go in Mod Idea Palace?
Sounds nice, but I think that it should be like an advanced version of the Mass Driver (like how the Pulse Rifle is largely a better version of the Lasgun); More zoom, crosshairs, and lots of damage. But one bullet per clip and slightly longer reload time then usual. It should also be an S2 weapon for 400 Credits. It should do 100 damage unless it's target is Advanced. Then, it should do only 50 damage. And we'll see what happens in Tremulous 2.0. Maybe they've got this planned already.

We'll be dead by the time anyways. :(

That was supposed to be a bit of sarcastic humour, my name being "TennisGuy" and Federer being the tennis player everyone knows... I happen to be a big gamer and tennisplayer myself, and yes, I know that gaming isn't just for rich white guys... anyone with Xbox Live knows that. One more thing: How do you get the scope to come up for the Mass Driver?
-
There is no scope, AFAIK. Press secondary fire and it just zooms in.

Thanks, I'll try it.

How would a sniper gun more powerful than the mass driver be fun for aliens?

More to the point, why would you want a scope, from a gameplay perspective? All it does is restrict your peripheral version even more.

Indeed
MD is evil enough as is.

yes poor dretches dont stand a chance

Would you realy expect to have a tyrant killed by one shot?
You know trem devs are trying to balance the game the most possible, otherwise this wouldn't be a multiplayer game.

Dark matter cannon from Quake 4 to Tremulous? HELL YEAH!!!

Higher magnification, more accurate shooting, ability to shoot from concealed areas?

No, no, and no. Magnification is all in the code, accuracy is completely unaffected, and concealed areas? What?

Whatever. You win. I can't compete with this. Just had a crazy idea, wanted to share it, get shot down by someone who knows way more. Good day, Sir.

I tip my hat to you.

Well I was hoping to have an interesting discussion about game design, but okay.

That was fairly gracious of you!
The massdriver IS the sniper rifle of tremulous and the 1.2 model reflects this better.
I hope you appreciate that your enthusiasm is welcome, but your talk is cheap. My talk is cheap too and that's why I bother posting here to remind you.
