Title: quick fixing
Post by: MadMan2k on July 30, 2006, 10:42:58 pm
IMO there are several easy to fix(or already fixed) bugs:
* no access to options from main menu
* not able to open console in main menu (for demo playback or something)
* Alt+Tab not working (focusing other windows)
* wrong hitboxes
.  * the only use for hovel, if you fix it it will become useless. How about removing it and making barricades one point cheaper?
* some things already adressed by trembot (renaming during kick etc.)

what do you think about fixing/incorporating the things above and release it as tremulous 1.1.1 while keeping more complicated things like tagged deconstructing in a seperate branch and releasing it later.

I think this would make tremulous much more enjoyable and keeping the momentum while not slowing down the long term development significantly.

I can access the console through the main meny (with the standard key)...
Once you access the console, you can get to the options menu with...
Code: [Select]
\menu ingame_options
-- Given, of course, that you can access the console.
I agree about the hitboxes (Tesla!)

edit: the new version already has an options button on the main menu. Less options than ingame, though.

the hitbox is the red square.

@dustin:

perhaps its a linux specific issue

I made that screenshot under windows. Usually the hitbox is dead on. Sometimes though it has certain quirks which prove usefull like this one. Usually around ramps and the ledges right next to them. On flat surfaces without ledges they're dead on.

it seems like the hitboxes were designed with the human buildings in mind, since there cubic boxes fit best and since humans only allowed to build on plain surfaces hitboxes do not need to be aligned.

and thats also the bug: hitboxes are not aligned to their surface meaning if you build it on a ramp it will still be aligned to the x-z surface like on the picture.

It can't be changed as i understand due to restrictions in the engine. And you can still turn the human structures around the z-axis. That's why the armoury hitbox is so big.

I don't imagine that the lack of console access is a linux-specific issue, for I play Trem on linux. Works just fine -- the console opened with the default configuration. Check your binds (autogen.cfg) (look for toggleconsole)
Mine is:
bind ` "toggleconsole"
Work fine. You could try changing ` to something else, to see if that key is being intercepted or overlooked.

* no access to options from main menu
Agreed.

* not able to open console in main menu (for demo playback or something)
I can access it fine, that's where I access it to view demos

* Alt+Tab not working (focusing other windows)
I play in windowed mode, Alt-tab works fine then and you only lose marginal view space

* wrong hitboxes
Only place I notice this is the egg, but I agree. On one hand, the egg hitbox is made so that it's comparable to the telenode one. But making both hitboxes huge would make them easy to snipe/shoot. Hmm...

* the only use for hovel, if you fix it it will become useless. How about removing it and making barricades one point cheaper?
Should be 2 points cheaper, right now there's no point when a tube costs less

Also:

* Telenode needs to push new spawners off the platform
