Okay, that guy abused two admin commands: /cancelvote and /mute. I wasn't really paying attention for the first part of the abuse, but I'm posting it because I got the condump and now I know the story. He seemingly for no apparent reason muted Affairs|NN|<2, and when somebody said he was a troll, he muted them. Three people (including me) called votes to unmute Affairs (that seemed to be passing), and he cancelled all of them and muted us all. With that, I'll show you the logs (skip to the bottom for the abuse part, the first part is a convo between some of them, may or may not be relevant, edited out the unimportant parts, will provide full condump if someone really wants...):

Also, he muted almost the whole server just for calling that vote. He goes around muting people he doesn't like. I've seen it before as well. This isn't the first time he's done this. A lot of people have seen.

Most everything that was relevant was cut out.
That guy asked them to please condense their three-to-four message sentences into one, as there was quite a bit of chattiness and it was taking up screen space/chat beep is annyoing.
They intentionally ignored him and mocked him, so he muted. Sounds pretty standard to me.
Players called to unmute, he cancelled the votes and asked them not to question his mutes.
If they called them after he said that, he muted them. Again, sounds pretty standard to me.
The lesson here (oh my god one round mutes we're going to die) is: if you think an admin is doing something that you don't like, don't just blatantly contradict them in an annoying and mocking fashion and you may get what you're looking for.

Just because the people are stupid or trolls doesn't mean that everything should work that way.
And thats kinda always been the deal. if an admin mutes, you don't immediately callvote unmute.
I would've likely done the same.

The admin in question learned not the feed to trolls, the players in question learned not to troll the admins.
Next map everyone was unmuted and played hapily ever after.

You directly challenged his authority. Admins don't have much authority so have the choice between taking a zero-tollerance approach to challenges, or becoming powerless.
If you disagree with an admin say so or bring it to the forums, don't insult/attack the admin.
Admins have pretty much carte blanche as to mutes, so it seems like a stupid thing to pick a fight over.
Also, calling a vote directly contradicting an admin action just looks like an attempt to provoke a response so you can come and whine.

@Whales: If the players try to unmute a player an admin muted, doesn't that show that they didn't want that player muted? 4 people tried to unmute affairs, and most if not all of the votes were on the way to passing when cancelled. I say that its abuse. Look at the first mute.
The second was a joke from TF2
Third, that person also thought it was abuse, called an unmute vote because he was abusing. He cancelled the vote THEN MUTED THE GUY
Menace was right, he CAN do whatever the fuck he wants not against the rules. There are NO rules that states against that. This is not about the admins choices. Its about THE COMMUNITY.
And also, he should of warned

Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to run everything as a democracy. Some things just don't do better as a democracy the US1 setlevel crisis, is a result of a more democratic system. Challenging an admin on the server by breaking server rules (spam) is simply a bad course of action. And as far as I know, muting people is a well-used response to all sorts of spam, including votespam. This is not abuse.

Hah, do people seriously need a good reason to mute affairs besides the old "being affairs" one?
When a bunch of Sirs and NNs jump to the defence of a player you know instinctively that the mute was probably well deserved, and that it wont be the only one handed out that round.
I probably would've taken a little more of their shit than kharnov did here, but i don't think he was particularly unreasonable. Remember, kids, a mute's really only a very short-term punishment, but i'll happily give away some ornately wrapped bans for christmas if there's enough demand.

I'd of tolerated more as well, but from my conversations with that guy, he seems to have to deal with a lot of this sort of stuff whenever he plays- So I really don't blame him. He must get a lot of them due to *it* being gone, and all that.

This case is iffy, I dont think he should have level4, also, he's really trigger-happy about muting. he muted me once for simply hit my RUSH WITH ME bind 3 times during the time between games... anyways, theres my 2 cents.

Maybe this wasn't apperent from my previous post: I was there at the time, I did see leonordo's ban,
and I did see the drama unfold. Kharnov might have acted a bit tight, but not to such a degree that
limbs and heads need to be severed.
He already fixed this:
That was supposed to be 2 hours, not days. Rectified. Leonordo is no longer banned.
Besides that, everyone was unmuted less than 10 minutes later, the first reactions were about admin abuse,
but at that point I had already told kharnov not to reply. The players stopped responding and the game resumed.

this case appears to be more of a personal vendetta than the muting of 4 (Yes 4!) of the most notorious spammers known to tremulous
if you police too hard then you should expect people to be all "OMFG that is police brutality!"
i suggest that (certain) admins should take their jobs less serious, it seems having admin power on US1 turns some people into bigots.

this case appears to be more of a personal vendetta than the muting of 4 (Yes 4!) of the most notorious spammers known to tremulous
if you police too hard then you should expect people to be all "OMFG that is police brutality!"
i suggest that (certain) admins to take their jobs less serious, it seems having admin power on US1 turns some people into bigots.

I think that it's pretty apparent that being an admin is a personal vendetta to mute/ban those who deserve it. As for the cancelvote, I can't say I support it (though, it wasn't abuse.) However I do agree that calling an unmute vote right after someone is muted by an admin is stupid, really stupid (lol, I come from experience in this department- Even ask F50-- and no, it didn't end in me making an omgabuse thread, it actually led to me talking to him via pm's in game about what happened, exchanging opinions, and well we kinda became friends as a result, you should try talking, rather than spamming. You'll actually make friends, shocker isn't it?) Though, I personally wouldn't cancel it. I'd let them spam more, then perma mute for the rest of the game, and mute anyone who spams as a result of it as well. This doesn't mean that the cancelvote was abuse it just means that that guy, is a more strict admin than I. I give chances, he's too hardcore for chances.

There are many players with L4 who really do not deserve it, scrape, also known as 'DSPro| that guy', is a prime example.
Just why was he granted L3, let alone L4? He is the only DSPro member who I specifically did not grant L3.
Not to derail the thread but I need to reply.
I have never aliased, I am not *that guy*, Kharnov is *that guy* who recently joined us.
I have been an admin for a long time prior and have been an admin for now quite a time on us1.
TVR is a nice guy, however he goes on long discussions about game mechs with complete seriousness, and
in the past I have poked fun at him for it. I suspect he resents me for it. I have no
hard feelings against you TVR, ok only after a soapy shower :P
And wb TVR, haven't seen you in nearly a year, at least under that name.
(Just for the record, I rarely mute. Its something left to the players. I only act if there is a deconner,
glitch builder, or team killer, when I do, I always have a demo and condump from the moment i use any admin
commands)

If someone wants to make a case for abuse actually being so serious, just leave the game because of it. Don't come posting here. Everyone will notice people quitting the game after being abused if the abuse, from whatever or however many abusers, is bad enough to cause people to leave the game in large numbers.
If you get "abused" and come post here, you're likely into the game enough to not be bothered by abuse to the point that you quit. The official US server is just another server, even if its a development contributor. Most of the "abuse" is nothing but fags being pissed about being muted/kicked/banned for being idiots.
And finally, save the above for when the game's actually alive, because even if people DO quit, for ANY reason, who gives a shit? There's not enough people playing this game anymore for people leaving to really matter, especially since there's clearly no effective advertising plan underway.
Take your abuse cries to someone who really cares and privately discuss it with them (i.e. suck their dick). Admins will do whatever the hell they want wherever they can and you getting mad doesn't matter because there are hardly any people ignorant enough to give a fuck.

Now so you know where i stand:
Unlike some people, im not here to suck admin dick, so i am going to say exactly what i think about this, don't like it? don't read it.
Now with this new 1.2 release that is going to be so awesome and official and bring in more active players etc. To have sloppy guidelines for admins and a very "oh admins can do what the fuck they like" attitude is just going to kill any hopes of developing this community. so @ certain admins; stop being bigots and start being a proper admin, this involves putting your personal wants aside. Be an admin for ALL players, not just yourself or people you like.
Everyone is capable of using the /ignore function, therefore if someone is spamming or talks to much or you just don't like what someone is saying, USE IT! Let the PLAYERS decide if said person deserves a mute. Also i don't give a fuck if an 'admin' muted someone, if players want to un-mute them and its going to pass, canceling it IS abuse as obviously the majority want them un-muted.
You may be an 'admin' but its not up to you to make decisions for everyone else.
I might just add; i don't want a change in admins, i want a change in the attitudes of certain admins.

My post was a response to Dracone, who was talking about reporting abuses in general, or so I thought. Nothing from that post was directed that case as, at least for me, it's solved already, everything important has been said. No, kharnov is cool guy that we all love <3

Newbies certainly don't know about the /ignore function, or even about the console. In fact there are really few people knowing about /ignore. If someone spams extensively, admin has the mute command to use it. As for unmutes, there might be the case when there are few friends of the spammer on to F1 his unmute. Democracy isn't always the best solution especially in small communities ;)

If people team up to troll someone and then start using the democracy card as an excuse to troll further, then I will be very happy to mute/kick/ban every troll there is according to the situation.
