Title: Blacklist
Post by: DraZiLoX on December 21, 2010, 06:05:44 pm
I would like to have blacklist/hatelist on these forums so i could put people i don't like there and enjoy forums without seeing their messages. I'm sure many people would like to /ignore someone at forums, but it's not possible (yet?).

Thanks.

Lots of forums have a /ignore feature.
It's kinda annoying sometimes, but IMO generally a good thing.  Except when you get retards who go out of their way to tell the world they've ignored someone.

Seems strange to me. Wouldn't that make following a discussion difficult whenever someone responds to a user on your blacklist?

Rather than '/ignore'ing the posts, why not try ignoring the posts?

If their posts are so bad that they disrupt threads then surely that's where forum admins come in.

So something like this? (With better formatting of course):

vBulletin forums show them as just a single line, about the height of the current post titles.
It's also nice for it not alerting you to new posts etc.

I did note that the formatting could be improved.  ::)

So people really do use the pink theme. huh.

So are we talking about expandable/collapsable posts with a filter of your preference applied to the thread upon loading? Or how about a simple 'mark as spam' for posts that are deemed unworthy by popular vote?

We're talking about pink themed grangers.

Ignore Another User:

(Actively developed)

In 2.0, by default, any users listed in your ignore list for private messages will by default have their posts hidden as well - you can see them by clicking on the 'Show me the post link'. This mod adds the same feature for 1.1 users - no 2.0 version is required.

or

Ignore User:

(Not actively developed)

Allows users to hide messages (the posts in the topics) from users you chose to ignore. Settings are based per user, every user has an ignore list of his/her own that doesn't affects other users.

This mod gives us buttons like:

So either way, we could have these features here.

It doesn't seem worth the effort, the only people i can imagine would actively use this are raging kiddies with a grudge, of course they'll make posts about the fact that so and so are on their ignore list in a bid to cause their ignored to rage too. It's a tool for drama, the rest of us can generally cope with skimming and scrolling past the occasional moronic post, it's not as though we have users producing such a high volume of junk posts that this isn't an option.

There's minimal effort in adding this (all in all about 10 mouse clicks).
Alternatively, Good Post/Bad Post works well for hiding yucky posts (on a per-post basis):

Good Post/Bad Post

This Mod will add post voting to your forum in a user-moderated fashion. The outcome is a bit of help to the forum moderators, with the nice extra that it resembles democracy a little. It gives members and moderators a general idea of who's a worthy poster and who isn't.

I'd recommend this for some of the boards here (like off-topic).

Even offtopic isn't so inundated with crap posts that any of these addons make sense, as for effort required, if features don't work with existing themes, or aren't maintained for future smf versions, it becomes a hassle, if we don't specifically need anything beyond core functionality we're better off without it.
As for addons that leave our forum members to judge the value of a post, no thanks, not with this lot.
