Hi, I've been working with a few friends (mainly Teapot, Deadmeat, and Drazilox) to put together a svn repository for all the tremulous 1.2 sounds. We've included a CSV document (easily opened with Excel or Open Office Calc) to provide us with an easy method to keep track of the license status for all the sounds. Using svn makes it much easier to create test pk3's and provides us with an easy to read log. We ask that everyone submit their new sounds by posting the sound in this thread and stating the correct license information. All sounds should be 44100 Hz or higher, mono, and wav. Please submit your sound in the following format:
Link: <link>
License: <license-name>
Author: <author-name>, <contact-information>
Filename: <directory-where-file-goes>
Example:
Link: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=87535 (http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=87535)
License: CC Sampling Plus 1.0
Author: Flasher21, http://www.freesound.org/usersViewSingle.php?id=1380975 (http://www.freesound.org/usersViewSingle.php?id=1380975)
Filename: buildables/eggpod/pain1.wav
We hope you can help us use svn over the wiki (incredibly hard to read and follow along with) and help the community release Tremulous 1.2 that much faster. You can find the repository at: source.dtrem.com/trem-sounds/. To view the repository directly from the web please head over to: http://source.dtrem.com/p/trem-sounds/source/tree/HEAD/ (http://source.dtrem.com/p/trem-sounds/source/tree/HEAD/). The simplest and easiest way to download our repository would be to simply: svn checkout svn://source.dtrem.com/trem-sounds/trunk.
Please note that the Tremulous 1.2 Sound Pack Test server (kiwi.uk.to:13213) uses pk3's compiled from this svn, so if you would like your sounds to show up there, please submit them here.
If you need any help or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on our irc: ##sexyrodents@freenode.net (Browser Link (http://webchat.freenode.net?channels=%23%23sexyrodents%2Ctremulous%2Ctremulous-dev&uio=d4)) - #tremulous@freenode.net and #tremulous-dev@freenode.net are also good places to get help from.

Note: Not all sounds (if any) with lower sample rates need to be replaced. They are printed because they are lower than most of our sounds.

Teapot said in another thread that I needed to post links to my sounds in this thread (in addition to updating the Wiki).
I hope this is what Teapot meant -

Updated the second post. 78% so far!
-
Updated the second post again. 80% so far.
This update mostly fixes some paths since bradley's builder sounds were much more appropriate for bsuits. The wiki will need to be updated to reflect this change.
The new sounds have been uploaded to the public Trem server.
-
here are some sounds i recorded a while back and posted in the sound licences thread.
there are 4 variations of the bsuit taunt, spawned from the human taunt.

Keep going!
This is what gets Trem to 1.2
-
Don't want to sound like an idiot... but these sounds are horrible... I think I'm gonna turn my speakers to mute when I play trem. Some human sounds are good, but alien sounds... no... just no...
-
Unless you have anything constructive to say or help to give, please do not comment. You're wasting your time. If you do have something useful to say, comment in the other sound thread (in Announcements). Post sounds here.
Anyway, yes, we're aware many of the sounds need a lot of work.
-
So you started this after Khalsas Post on the Tremulous home-page - http://tremulous.net/
So how far have you guys progressed? Homepage post or wiki post- the sounds percentage is 67%. what percentage is it at now?
And sounds are pretty good just some alien sounds need fixing... I would help out but I really dont know how to edit sounds on mac osx....
-
Flash mac OSX with linux if your system is x86 :)

Right now, I'm unsure what our exact sound percentage is, but it is probaly still around 67%. Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is a great program that lets you edit sounds on many different OS.
-
Teapots post (#1 in this thread) says "80 Percent" :P. Plus, you haven't added all sounds that have been posted.

That was then. This is now.

The progress is still around 80%.

The progress is still around 80%.
Remind Khalsa of this progress... Before he posted on the main trem website during december not to long ago, I spoke with him about why no more beta test's other then 1.2 gpp... Then a day later he posts it...
So 80% is great... I will look at some mac programs for creating or editing sounds and see what I can do too help...

Do I need to update the wiki as well?
-
Audacity > SoundHack
No doubt, though SoundHack has some uh, "rare" things that I don't feel like messing with in Nyquist.
-
Yea update the wiki
-
After we make the sounds, the devs will ask us one more time for our help to make these sounds fairly legit.

Updated wiki, but there was already a bsuit/jump1.wav, so I didn't replace it.
-
So what are we at now? Should I start compiling all the original sounds so I can release a mod containing all of them? :P
-
So what do we still need? I suppose I might be able to help maybe...?
-
We still need at least (very quick eyeballing of things here, there are a few more that we need as well):
buildables/overmind/construct1.wav
buildables/overmind/idle1.wav
buildables/overmind/pain1.wav
buildables/overmind/pain2.wav
buildables/telenode/construct1.wav
buildables/tesla/idle1.wav

player/level0/pain50_1.wav
player/level1/jump1.wav

There are 20 sounds in that list. Not far now.

I thought we didn't need to replace granger sounds/electro.wav right?
http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=13257.180
-
I'm not sure about electro.wav, but it seems that we *do* need granger sounds, just swamp-cecil was saying that getting new granger sounds has the potential to upset the delicate balance of the granger cults.
-
get rid of the granger sounds, and i'll get rid of Timbo's family.
ffffuuuuuu
-
Greeeeat, you manage to be racist and threaten someone's family, in the span of two posts. All in a day's work I suppose.
-
Keep the old granger sounds...
Or at least the jumping sound... Comeon... just 1 or 2 sounds guys...

That's what's left. - 14 sounds to 1.2... I actually think heartbeat is done too, (the theme song right?)
At the rate we're (umm, well Bas) is going, it'll be released in 2 weeks or so. :o
In other news, does anyone know if 1.2 is going to be using the same mod architecture? Becuase the old sounds really have to have a mod for them...

Right.... My meager attempt at a sound.

death3
taunt
footsteps:
flesh1
-
Bas. The Wiki is wrong. Ignore it. This thread is right.
-
Is anyone adding all this to the SVN? Kiwi?
-
00:26 < Teapot_> We have nearly all the sounds for 1.2 it seems. I really
should update svn.
-
Yes, yes he should :p
-
Who's going to do the granger sounds? SOMEONE'S gotta do it... and I personally would feel TORTURED if it was like... 99% done and stalled.
-
I'll take a stab at it this evening.
-
Has anyone got a guess what animal the granger sounds originally might derive from? If we knew the animal it could be relatively easy to recreate the sounds, or find CC alternatives.
My guess is that the granger sounds come from some kind of pig.
-
I'm hoping to find some time to pick up the project again, is the svn of these down?
-
SVN should be up again soon. I managed to commit all sounds up to (but excluding) Bas' latest contributions before my provider shut down the VPS for maintenance (subsequently introducing plenty of issues...).

Alrighty, I made a grangerpain sound, as I assumed you only need one. I also made a taunt sound and a death sound. Let me know what you think.

Hey, those were actually rather good! At least I'd approve them.
If you are able to make them, it'd be awesome with some pain and death variation, like the original sounds had.
-
Ok. Let me just get a couple more opinions. Then I'll go ahead.
-
Umm... I like them but the taunt is like.... HA HA HA in robot noise....
-
I was kind of waiting for maybe kharnov to do the granger sounds but, C4, I can build more sounds off the one you put up. I thought the grangerpain one was kind of long so I used sections of it instead and modified it.
Examples:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24193888/grangur/pain1.wav
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24193888/grangur/pain2.wav
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24193888/grangur/pain3.wav
Also, does this sound anything like the initial recording? Just curious.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24193888/grangur/original.wav
-
The last one sounds like a higher version of Pain3, Does anybody have a cat? Because a lower version of a meowing cat would be perfect for the granger taunt. (Mreaaauu)
-
I like them all.
-
They all seem a bit short, and very mechanical sounding.
Also, the different pains shouldn't just be the same one pitch-shifted imho.
-

I agree they do seem a bit mechanical, and they do seem short compared to the original pain sounds.
However, I would say modifying one sound is better than getting 4 different sounds for pain, since it is really hard to maintain sound consistency even when they are all from cats or dogs or whatever.
-
Does anyone have a cat? :P

We already have a heartbeat.wav song. I just haven't added it here yet, it's also very, very good. I'll post it here soon (or just add it to the svn.. which I'll do now).

Ok, I committed revision 73, which contains the new heartbeat.wav. I just wanted to mention that Merancapeman (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6038) put a lot of time into creating it and that he created it just for Tremulous. He has also said via e-mail:
I'm perfectly fine with you and your team using my song "Tremulous" in the update of the game (none other, of course) Tremulous, and I agree to placing it under the Creative Commons Attrubution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License for your use.
Hope you guys like it as much as I did.

Didn't Bas modify my granger sounds, and can't we commit them for now? I mean, we can always go back and re-do them, but it would be nice to be finished.
As for the footsteps, I think there are some custom maps which use custom sounds like that. We could also go with
http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=50723 <--- It has four steps, I'd assume we could split it.
As for the tesla Idle sound, I think this qualifies as long enough :)

Yep, we should commit them, I just haven't added them to the svn yet. I should find time soon though.

Again, thanks for the script Teapot. We need a 4th granger pain sound sound (because right now we only have 3). I also didn't include Bas' new reactor attack sound or Mg attack sound, because we already had those. We need to decide which version we'd like to keep.
But anyway, we're at 95% completion! Keep up the good work everyone, we're almost there!

That's an admin thing. But according to News everything else is done. Even when we finish we'll still probably have to do some tweaking. So Idk.

There are multiple problems with that license (ignoring that the license wasn't copied in its entirety).
For countries that do not recognize the public domain, it does not grant the rights to distribute, modify, or distribute modifications. It also has a usage restriction (unspecified law(s) must be obeyed during use).
Do it right. Use Creative Commons.

http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
To the extent possible under law, the person who associated CC0 with this work has waived all copyright and related or neighboring rights to this work.
This license is significantly different because it permits distribution, modification and distribution of modifications in countries where the public domain is and is not recognized. It also does not have any usage restriction.
-
"You have to follow the law" is not a usage restriction, no licence can override the law.
It's a pointless bit of text that does nothing.

"You have to follow the law" is not a usage restriction, no licence can override the law.
It's a pointless bit of text that does nothing.
It does nothing in most countries, but not all. It potentially useful in countries in which any part of the license being in conflict with the law invalidates the whole license.

The construct sound is just "The overmind has awakened." Since we don't need the the other announcements, are you sure we need the construct sound? Otherwise, can we get the person doing the evolved, spawns, etc announcements to do the awakened one?
Here's the granger sounds I posted last time with full info + the 4th pain sound:

BTW, I used my unparalleled skill of observation to reverse engineer "50Hz_hum_square.ogg" and made my own 50hz square tone in audacity:

Hehe, I love how you used a baby crying for the granger pain sounds. Cuteness assured! :D
-
Errrr, no, the original sound was actually me, yelling 'FUCK FUCK FUCK' into the microphone...

So... You're done! Upload to SVN and test for particularly bad sounds now, yaya!
