As some may be aware, there's been an increased occurrence of people using clan tags which they are not members of. Anyway, my complaint is actually about a specific person (Lava Croft) this time who adamantly denies it although it is pretty clear that it is my clan tag (Sir| in any colour).
[S] Sir|riS: and this is not your clantaqg
[S] Sir|riS: its Sirris
[S] Sir|riS: tard
And it seems this isnt the first time Lava Croft has done this:

I have been asked to start a new thread about this as it has been viewed irrelevant in the thread where Lava is complaining about me.
Anyway, as much as I dislike this bad attitude and rude behavior in general, I am not aiming for any admins to punish him or anything like that.
I would just like to know what a clan member can do if he encounters such problems on the official server. Will any admins oblige requests to change the individual's name or are we just left to fend for ourselves?
Any enlightenment on this matter will be appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT:
P/S, apparently I am not the only one who sees it as a clan parody:
Sir|riS?
L0L i love it!
Excellent way to parody a clan!

Player Rules
1. No Griefing
2. No Harassment
IMHO tag stealing breaks both those rules, which makes it a punishable offense.
Generally I rename, mute if necessary, and if they insist on being a pain about it, a kick is in order.

Eat a spoon full of cement and harden the fuck up.
its clear he's just making fun of you guys, and you're obviously just trying to make a fuss out of it.
if he was actually acting like he was IN the clan then would be on you're side, as Sir| would be a exact clone of GT.
but he acting "legit" just like you guys act legit.

I'm with lava, when i was still SirDude and the day i first joined the server with 2 people from the Sir| "clan" you guys acted like i took your Clan tag and tried to get me kicked/ban for "Tag stealing".

Well with all due respect sirdud, this thread isn't about you. So if you see fit to complain about it, make your own thread like I did. How's that for "hardening the fuck up"?
EDIT: Oh and another thing. Go read the last post on this thread (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=14981.msg215639#msg215639).

Player Rules
1. No Griefing
2. No Harassment
IMHO tag stealing breaks both those rules, which makes it a punishable offense.
Harassment Har"ass*ment (-ment), n.
The act of harassing, or state of being harassed; worry;
annoyance; anxiety.
Harass Har"ass, n.
1. Devastation; waste. [Obs.] --Milton.
2. Worry; harassment. [R.] --Byron.
Not harassment.
Verb
to grief (third-person singular simple present griefs, present participle griefing, simple past and past participle griefed)
(online gaming) To deliberately harass and annoy other players of a game in order to interfere with their enjoyment of it; especially, to do this as one’s primary activity in the game. [from late 20th Century]
Not griefing either.
Steal Steal (st[=e]l), v. t.
1. To take, and carry away, feloniously; to take without
right or leave, and with intent to keep wrongfully; as, to
steal the personal goods of another.
2. To withdraw or convey clandestinely (reflexive); hence, to
creep furtively, or to insinuate.
3. To gain by insinuating arts or covert means.
4. To get into one's power gradually and by imperceptible
degrees; to take possession of by a gradual and
imperceptible appropriation; -- with away.
5. To accomplish in a concealed or unobserved manner; to try
to carry out secretly; as, to steal a look.
Not even stealing.
The official policy is that admins should use their own judgment and are responsible for their actions. The unofficial policy on clan tags is that in some cases, some action is permissible, but obviously see the previous statement.
There cannot be an effective official clan tag policy without having an official clan registry with individually vetted clan tags, but having an auth server that keeps track of everyone's names (and perhaps prevents aliasing) would be better, has been discussed, and is particularly unlikely.
Oh, and harden the fuck up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unkIVvjZc9Y).

Yes, this is something that by nature has to be a bit nebulous, because it depends much on intent. In the cases where a *legitimately* new person *legitimately* wanders onto the server using a tag by chance, this is obviously something that should be dealt with by simple human politeness and decency (and perhaps some sensibility when it comes to choosing clan tags that aren't so probable). We shouldn't be seeing anything beyond polite asking and at most /renames for this.
On the other hand, when individuals knowingly add a tag on their name to grief others and do so repeatedly with the intent to harass a particular group of individuals, then it can perhaps begin to fall under griefing and harassment. If an admin changes someone's name and they change it back and tell the admin to fellate them, then that's just all kinds of wrong and stupid and deserves mutes, kicks, and even bans of increasing length if offenses are repeated. If an individual is on a continued crusade against everything relating to clans and has already been banned multiple times for intentionally annoying them in this way as part of some misguided persecution complex, he had best not continue or find an even longer ban.
In short: Intent is important. Don't take action against people for "stealing clantags" because that in itself is really not a thing. Take action against assholes for being assholes, but only when this is the case.
As usual, it's a video game. You should be here to play it. If that's a secondary objective to dealing with adminship, community politics, clan politics, or griefing, please reevaluate your life and harden the fuck up.
