Title: Startup problems
Post by: HimSelf. on January 24, 2011, 03:57:20 am
So, when I open my gpp, the screen turn black, and then immediately closes. When I try to run 1.1, I get a tremulous is not responding message immediately on startup. I also get this message when trying to run urban terror so I'm guessing it might be a problem with all quake based games on my computer... Any thoughts?

What operating system are you using and what is the exact error that you are getting?

I'm on windows 7 and I have two problems, both startup for gpp and 1.1. For gpp the screen goes black, and then i just go back to my desktop with the game closed, and for 1.1 it says tremulous is not responding and needs to close.

Ok, I don't know anything about win 7, but can you run Tremulous 1.1 or GPP from the command prompt?  If so, the error might be displayed there.  You might have to wait for some one who knows more about windows to come along and help though..

Yeah, run it from command prompt. That will print an error message.

I tried running from command prompt, the game opened and then closed itself, and command prompt didnt show any error message.

No message at all eh? Not even a success message?

Hrm. What's really odd is that its happening with all quake based games on your computer. There is a cvar somewhere...let me search the forums for it...Ah.

I have not used windows 7, but perhaps using an updated client would help. http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/projects/mgclient/files for 1.1, or you can skip 1.1 altogether and install the 1.2 game play preview at http://tremulous.net/files/

If problems persist you might try editing a file called "autogen.cfg" and adding the line "seta logfile 2" to it. This should create a file in the same directory as autogen.cfg called q3console.log which should contain more information about the error for next time. Don't ask me where autogen.cfg is on windows7 however.

Apologies for the horrible meme, but:

1. Edit autogen.cfg
2. run tremulous
3. ???
4. Profit.

Yeah, try to rename your autogen.cfg and autoexec.cfg to autogen.cfg.bak and autoexec.cfg.bak respectively, and see if it was a configuration issue.

I had the same problem (with all quake based games) and I had to reinstall my graphics drivers.

I'm using Radeon x1650 FYI.

In 1.1 you might try just ignoring (closing) the dialog box telling you tremulous has frozen. For some reason windows 7 can be really stupid when it comes to overreacting and if you click on tremulous while it is loading a map it thinks it has frozen, so I would guess it is a similar issue. Try starting it up and closing the dialog box and waiting.
