why the hell does trem need vehicles?

So that the humans can drive their tanks out in the middle of the hall, and everyone can complain on the forums about hall-camping and tank blocking.
"It was the end of the game, on ATCS. All the aliens were at our front door, and EVERYONE bought tanks inside the base!"

well actually the tank im doing IS the base its a mobile field base.
making it move is trick with triggers so i might not do it

Why do you guys only think of tanks? What about a scout vec, or maybe a humvee like vechicle that only only carry three passengers, or two even, one driver, one gunner, no auto turrets, no turrets or anything. Like run away, or something.

For aliens, maybe they have a living vechile, shoots acid or something.

also think about it having a tank/humvee on archanid2 hell no you would not fit through any holes, moving deaths trap if you ask me. some well hidden goons take it out in one pounce

Any hope for vehicles doable on a tremulous MOD?
Vehicles can be hard on any Quake engine:
a) Often only a few sizes are posible (dot, grenade, human and shambler size). This has been solved on Quake3?
b) For a smooth experience you may need netcode enhancements = break backward compatibility and hard.
c) BBBOX that rotate. Can bbox rotate on Quake3?
d) Multimodel models. Quake3 already support that.
e) Big maps, vehicles are for crossing big maps.
If A is not posible on Tremulous, you can still use "battlesuit size" mech vehicles.
If B is not posible on Tremulous, you can still use slow moving vehicles/slow rotating vehicles. Check Airquake.
If C is not posible, vehicle collisions will be ultralame. anyway a battlesuit mech will not suffer much with that.
If D is done.
If E is not posible (mappers dont want to make maps with big open areas), you can add a heighfield engine to Quake3, but is hard to code.
This mean, yes. You can have slowmoving mech alike "giant battlesuits" with small changes. Tanks may need collision enhancements, or will look lame.
Still, withouth big maps, will be very lame: you dont need a sand buggy the size of a tyrant for ACTS.
For sand buggys you may need netcode enhancements, that are hard and break compatibility. I doubt this will be doable because lack or resources.

by vehicles I meant immobile ones (sorry probably vehicles is not the word used for this) like player controlled turrets and some other map objects which are usable the player

erm that could NEVER be considered a vehicle!!!

To vcxzet:
More maps like Karith will be cool. Even something with x2 or x4 the size karith open areas. Pulse has big open areas, but are "not playable" and is there to enhance the start fun and ambient.
You can also wait for QW:ET, but maybe will feel more like BF1942 mapping+modelling than BSP mapping.
Old "aliens" games have a few "under siege fortress" alike the Starship Troopers film. I think is doable a few maps with medium size open areas and good gameplay.
If you make 1 big map with a urban area, and wastelands. Other people may create a "dropship" or "apc" for a Tremulous mod. Having a dropship for Trem I think will fit the gameplay.

He means stationary.I really like the idea, but all those 'alien masters' will say that it's just another reason for humans to never leave base, whereas aliens will never use them because they aren't the ones camping.
I think that a) human camping is good, and that b) stationaries could be used offensively -- think ATCS where aliens could build something like that just outside of human base, or in the hallway to block off/defend it. Humans often win in that map by going around only, and attacking from behind when aliens are all out munching heads.

turrets would be fantastic, but what about the alieans? and turrets for humans should only be acceable to build at s3 because that is shit for aliean team. for example arachnid2, hallway upstairs from humans starting base you could constantly shoot with a manned turret. think about it, alieans could do nothing and humans would camp ten fold.
Im not for manned turrets.

Idea for aliens; make a shoulder-fired dretch launcher for use with tyrants.
'Nuff said.
Or, have dretches equipped with battle armor and really awesome sunglasses that deflect bullets or create an energy shield.
EDIT: It would be nice to have bigger aliens and manned laser cannons in my new map; Think Whiskey Outpost from Starship Troopers.

You can perfectly make different box sizes. It just happens that you must code them into pmove code (so b point is covered) and most mod coders are scared of it. But I don't think Timbo is since Trem already has a good bunch of pmove styles for aliens and humans (in fact, a tyrant is as big as any jeep :P). The b point also implies that this would never be a server side mod, so people would be required to download the client version of the mod.
The other points apply. Specially the one that says that vehicles don't fit into Trem maps.

All this Humans should have vehicles; Why not give Aliens 'vehicles' too?
The Horseshoe;
Basically a big round sort of shellm that a Granger crawls into that can be moved around slowly (the grangers legs stick out from the bottom).
Tottally bullet proof (but not grenade or Lucy splash damage), so you have to shoot its legs off while it slowly gets away. :P
The Urchin;
It kinda rolls around, covered with spikes.
It damages anything it touches (acid covered spines, y'know?)
The perfect thing to roll into a S3 Human base as Electrical attacks hardly faze it.

humans could also have shrink rays and special vehicles to travel into an aliens brain thru the ear and then grow ray themselves back to normal and implode the alien

It then eats the people for a tasty snack.

and about the tanks..........he ment a map where its one big desert area, not allot of obstacles and then have 2 rooms witch have wheels or jelly on them and move around the map on butons.
I think a navy battle would be allot better (your manual turrets would be good to have on the ship, also boarding party's would be great).
