As you might have realized, my ingame name is … a real darling. Being a 30+y old man, this is kind a weird, but I like it. The principle idea comes from the (in?)famous Blackadder-series (with Rowan Atkinson, a brilliant actor unfortunately known mostly for his mediocre role of “Mr. Bean”), where a character appears who's second name in fact is “Darling”, leading to a lot of comic situations, when for instance people enter a room and greet him with “Hello, Darling”.
My ingame names so far were “zybork” (obviously), then I realized the potential of the usual ingame-messages, and switched to “a loser”, which, to this date, I still am, for sure, but I just liked messages like that somebody was “gunned down by a loser”; later, I used “something special” for a similar effect (who does not want to be bitten by “something special”), but this still didn't satisfy my need to make unmisunderstandably clear that I take myself ab-so-loo-ta-lee and po-see-tiff-a-lee SERIOUS, and eventually, inspired by Blackadder, I succumbed to being … a real darling.
Player was machinegunned by … a real darling
Player was bitten by … a real darling
Player was gunned down by … a real darling
Player was crushed under … a real darling's weight
Also, who would dare to shoot … a real darling. Well, honestly, a lot of people, however, I hope you enjoyed that li'l history of an ingame-name, and I would really be curious to learn yours.

That's how I got mine. There's a superhero from South Park with perfect hindsight, named, naturally, Captain Hindsight. And now you can have perfect hindsight too, if you let yourself be bitten by "a retroactive spider".
Next phase, I'll see if I can fit "a lion, GET IN THE CAR!" into the name field. >:3

Lizard (was my favourite animal and still is?) is draziL backwards, so my nick was Drazil first. Then i added o to the end for looks and it was Drazilo. Finally i added X to make it somehow cool, and ta-da, thats how my name is. I'm not sure why i decided to make letters DZLX capital, but i did, so its now DraZiLoX.
-
Duck was the name I used in Lazertag. People started hatin' so I changed to MTG Card names. Mindstab first, now Spthysis :P
-
I met Jet.^Pk back when I was an UnnamedPlayer and I asked him to help me with a name.
-
When I was thinking of a name, I thought: "Lecavalier is a pretty cool name" and the rest is history.
-
Whether it's email, or a new username, I try to think of something that sounds cool to me. Deadbeat Engineer did that, and has other connotations to it. I've also done (but not on here) abstract disorder, and on aim, adeceaseddog. "adeceaseddog wants to chat with you"...
Also, I like red, black, and purple but black didn't work properly in names at the time so i used white instead, and the pink was misleadingly labeled as purple.

Lakitu was already taken on AOL when I was 13 or whatever and liked Nintendo games but didn't want to be something as common as Mario or whatever.

"UnnamedPlayer was bitten by a killer whale" -> "UnnamedPlayer was swiped by A^Killer^Whale's basilisk" -> "UnnamedPlayer was gunned down by KillerWhale" -> "UnnamedPlayer was lasgunned by Whale" -> "UnnamedPlayer was chomped by I <3 whales's dragoon" -> |AoD|Ozzyshka: sup whales -> everyone calls me whales -> "UnnamedPlayer was rifled by whales".
True story.

Just a random alias from a multitude of aliases that evolved into the real one.
Meisseli is Finnish for screwdriver or penis (slang).
-
But well. If you really want to know (and you don't but nevertheless), here's why I am unpronounceable.

What the game was about? I never touched a single NES. :(
Also, OH MY FUCKING GOD KHARNOV KHARNOV MY GOD WHAT IS WHY HOW ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG. Ok?
-
Dracone since I was 13, because in UT2k4 I saw too many other people named Draco.
KingOfBaslick is kind of a close alternate.
-
Well I decided on CreatureofHell back when I was a youngling...The main problem with it was that if you added a clan tag and colours it was too long for trem :(
So I did a bit of brainstorming and came up with many alternatives, none of which I use now...
I don't even remember how I came up with this one either...but I can assure you it has nothing to do with my personality

Not very interesting, but let's face it nothing so far has been, so i'm in good company;

Does this make you a Eunuch Provocateur?

Back when I played Freelancer, I had two aliases: Conzul, for when I was being nice to new players/clans; Or Luznoc, for when I was pirating or being generally desctructive. Here in Tremulous, I tried for Dark Conzul instead of Luznoc, but black in names wasn't allowed. How did I get Conzul? Same way Leca got his :P

Or Luznoc, for when I was pirating or being generally desctructive.
And nobody caught on? Sdrawkcab really works? :o
My opinion of humanity plummets again.
-
Celestial and Rage are both Conquer Online skills. I put them together and got my name.
-
Rune Scape has the most stupid Autogenned names (i was 11)
-
How about the stories behind colors (if anyone has any)? All my names have at least one character in red, and the rest white. The reason for that is that I didn't really like using colors at first, but if you don't have any, people might... judge you. :o
So at first, I had a bind that joined a team and set the first letter of my name blue for humans or red for aliens. I dropped the blue part of that recently, when I started playing aliens a lot more, so now it's just white, with a splash of red. So at some point, I'll probably start playing as "The Wolf In Red".

Back in 1.1 I went by some generic ass name that I used when I was new to any game, Johnsonq:). Got tired of it and went with Thoth. Ever since I was like 5 or something I've been obsessed with Egypt and I still am sort of.
-
Well, I got Kasofa from slamming on my keyboard at age 6.
The name of Snail came from someone in Nexuiz saying "_@"" and I liked it. _@" didn't look as good behind the GT tag, so I used ''GT)_, and then after 6 months of inactivity, came back, lost the GT bit, and just changed my name to Snail or TheSnail.
Turtles Forever is a painting that was in my geometry book.
Green and white are the colors I use in honor of the GT tag colors.

I saw some program about frech privateers named, by chance, corsairs. They were cunning people, as well good inventors, when it is about sailing. More found on on Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsair) If you are interested. :)
I have love of space combat simulators, and the next that set my name as it is, was game Freelancer. There was faction called Corsairs, that had best ship in game (I don't remember if there is better than Titan.)

Titan is my fav in MP also, though technically Eagle is better since the devs gave it HF physics by mistake.

My name is related to an argument supporting atheism - namely Russell's Teapot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot). Essentially it states that the 'burden of proof' falls on the theist to prove a deity exists, rather than on the atheist to prove it doesn't exist. It's a variant of Occam's Razor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_razor).
I mentioned Russell's Teapot in high school once and suddenly I became "the teapot guy" or "the teapot philosopher". It spread around the school for a long time. Years afterwards, I was asked, completely seriously, if I really did believe teapots would take over the world. Gotta love Chinese whispers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_whispers). ;)
Coincidently, the Utah Teapot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Teapot) is often one of the first things people create when they learn to use 3D modelling programs.
My other names (http://stats.tremulous.net/tremstats/us1/player_details.php?player_id=4716) are "tcatipax" (which roughly translates to Teapot from Lojban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lojban)) and "Tepoto" (Esperanto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto) for Teapot). I mostly use these when "Teapot" is unavailable.
Wikipedia is the world's greatest nerd snipe (http://xkcd.com/356/). I couldn't stop reading it hence all the links.

easy to type on qwerty

Teapot, interesting, I always thought the famous rendered teapot was the origin of your name. Interesting to learn the true origin.
Btw, I had another nickname around the time when I was “a loser” or “something special”, that was: “nobody”, referring to that ancient trick Odysseus played on Polyphem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphemus), but this was obviously a li'l too hard for too many people to deal with, also … a real darling is much more subtle.
-
Because it is. Plus, I was 11 and had to come up with a name in the next 10 seconds.

The first online game i played with a gamer tag was socom. I started with the name walter (my first name) and I thought that was lame so then my gamer name became qweefbag. After a friend at school told me what a qweef was xD.
Then I was playing socom one day and a kid had the name godzilla kill and I use my mic and told him his name was awesome and that im gunna name my self qweefzilla from that day forward I will always play any game under the name qweefzilla. most people spell queef but i spell it qweef.
ps qweefs are really funny to hear so I like qweef in my name. Then I started playing tremulous and for so reason I chose qweef_bag (I was a noob when I played with that name) as a name but I never liked it and I went back to qweefzilla on tremulous as I started to play the game more seriously.
Many people may not like my name but Ive used the word qweef in my name for so long. Im not 12 even though the name might suggest ... im 21.

first name was ROFLMYMAYO it was a take on ROFLMAO
then it was ROFLMYWAFFLE cause if you say it "roffle" it rhymes...
then one day i was pretty baked and eating some toast while playing trem
and thought "mmm...toasty." the rest is history. Also i like single syllable names.
idk why.

Random letters, I needed a nickname for this game.

I always thought it may have been Nordic lol

Tyrant Masta was my first name. I always thought I was extremely good back in the KoR days, nooby old me.
Then Reptile, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I NAMED MYSELF THIS, again on KoR days
iBrandon when I started playing uBP, thanks to iAndy, and my name is Brandon :D
Dragant - named myself this during !s ages ago, wanted 2 powerful things together, Dragoon and Tyrant :P
tibs - I was looking for a name, but I wanted to make my own unique one, I guess Iabz inspired me somehow. I first went by BS in red, then the next day tibs (ThisIsBS) which includes my first and last initials.
Gg my stories beat all of you. Cake now please.

Sleeps was always a alias for me, SleepsAnywhere reflects my personality. So there you go pretty simple and fits the character limit nicely with light blue and white.
SleepsAnywhere
Personally I really like it, and there is a lot you can do with Sleeps.
Edit:
Honestly, I have no idea.
I can't get Gooseberry outa my head ;)

When I've been asked, the first thing I point out is it's not a reference to linux. I only noticed later that my nick appeared in the name of that OS (which I don't use).
I also once made a fake history for the name that went:
Icecream Cone Yum!
<0 Pure Art!
<1 Add 1.
<2 Add another 1.
<3 <10 Add another Convert to binary.
Numbers Under Ten Inequality interpretation.
N. U. X Acronym with roman numeral.
N. U. T. Reconsidered using the roman numeral.
Nut You eat it.
Nux Latin for 'nut'.
But honestly, I just put some cool looking letters together a while ago and I've had this awesome name ever since.

back when i was 10 or 11, a game called NBA jam was all the rage. this game had many secret characters, and even more hoaxes about characters that were not in the game but everyone saw "a friend" unlock. a gaming magazine of the day published a list of these hoax characters, and listed "rim rack: the red ninja" but admitted to coming up with that one out of whole cloth.
now NBA jam just happened to be a game that i played soon after asking for three letter initials. despite knowing the fakery, i decided to "try" for ole rim rack, and input my initials as RAK. the next game that asked for initials (rock and roll racing for snes by rare i think it was) also prompted in me the response of RAK. from that day forward, some twenty years ago or so now, i was RAK, to the point of most of my friends in the real world referring to me by that name.
usually RAK is too short. i usually add a descriptor. most times this is "ninja" as i've always been a big ninja nerd. i blame snake eyes and stormshadow from GI joe in my formative years.
here in trem, i like to make use of all the characters i can in the space for names. i added "-decepticon" to my name when i saw a player called "bumblebee-autobots". i am a big transformers nerd, and i couldent let the 'cons go unrepresented when someone was tossing the word autobot around.
i added the basilisk image thingie because i love the basi.
for the other two aliases that are not some variation on the above information, Miner D-16 is a reference to megatron. see, in one of the better modern "reboots" to generation 1 (aka, the transformers that we watched on tv in the 80's) places megatron as a simple mining bot before joining the gladatorial games and actually becoming megatron. he was known as D-16, which is a nice reference. the japanese numbered their transformers, but changed the method, so that if you use the "latest" numbering scheme, D-16 refers to megatron.
i'm postmaster p because i bring positivity. watch leprechaun in the hood, it's worth it.

Ah! a perfect topic to clear the doubts of most players, who irritate me by asking s*** related to World of Warcraft (I hate that game)! NO! i did not get the name from there! Neither from unreal tournament!
Open an old dictionary's first page! See the meaning (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/abaddon) of Abaddon.

Tbh, I got my name "The Medistation" back when I was a noob playing at D*S. A player named Conrad renamed to "The Armory" when he was hiding under an armorcade with a psaw on ATCS, I decided to be "The Medistation," and rather than becoming just an alias, it became my main name. As for the rest of my names, I alias too much, that is all.
