Has anybody ever noticed the backflip animation that's part of the lower.md3 of the human model? It's unused with your standard animation.cfg but a simple change and...

Here's the simple edit file you can pop into your trem folder to see this acrobatic display first hand: http://ul.to/6c4vmh
It's funny how I never noticed this till now.
Neat! How hard is it to use that for dodge? Can it be easily applied to that and side dodge or would he backflip for side dodges? Might look cool and be doable for trunk if it's not difficult.
That would be pretty awesome if back dodge did that.
Bonus points if the camera flipped too and you could get off a couple shots behind you in midair.
Haha, epic. The marine who could barely jump three times in a row is now doing backflips. Way to go, Ked! :D

Four of them in a row. Someone's been pumping some iron in his downtime on the Fractal Zion.
Sounds like a cool idea as a option if it could be implemented so it won't change game play.

Realistic physics and motion - no bunny hopping or quick back peddling.

Mhm.
Backflipping doesn't even make any sense. When was the last time you saw anyone backflip out of danger?
This is the kind of mechanics that fit into COD23: Modern Warfare 67 because "it looks cool".
Lol Nux :D
Be praised of yer keen eye.

Oh, don't be so picky. I know Tremulous
should be quite close to realistic, but hells, why not some entertainment sometimes too?

The backflip exists because the human animations were based on Paul Steed's bone animations for Quake 3, which had backflipping players.

I'd rather have backflips than realism.
I tried to do a backflip once. I launched myself into the air, my eyes set on the heavens, and for the briefest of moments i felt an exultant sense of freedom, as if i was a bird taking off into the auburn sunset. Then i landed on my back, and realised i had failed. Life has never been the same since. True story.

It's a backflip animation so will only ever show him flipping backwards. The only way to make it look right would be to edit the md3 to include another few frames of animation in the direction of the side dodge.

Sadly, as it is, the view stays fixed forward and you can even fire forward while you're facing the other way in mid-flip.

That's odd, I'm fairly sure tremulous has both of those.
( HINT: I'm doing both in the GIF)
Sticky + announce + give it its own separate site and release it as "1.2 GPP: Backflip Edition"
This is significant material and I'm certain there will be financial gain.
Just tested this with my LEGO heads and yes it IS very lolzy.
BTW I hate the file host that Nux used to host the pk3 so i put it here:
