Title: Noob Server Suggestion
Post by: phosphide on March 02, 2011, 06:00:02 am
I am a regular Ubuntu user but I never played the games nor do I play PC games at all (Well, online). So this is my first pc game to play.

So I have to ask, what server is best to use for a noob to get use to the gameplay? I'd rather not get slaughtered continuously just starting out.

Well, I suggest you start out by downloading the GPP update (kudos if you already have it). Then, the Official Servers are a good place to start. The people online are generally helpful and nice. As for being slaughtered... expect to be... badly. The learning curve keeps the game interesting. Good luck! Also, I recommend you head over the Strategies section of the forums and read some of the articles so you have a basic idea of tactics.

Or you could try the Wrath Newbie Training Server on 1.1

I think there's a hint in the name.

I would admit, when i first started playing i was noob galore. Then, now look at me. Using all the bassy techniques. The hat, the meatshield, the wallslash, the grab turnaround, the gas and i think thats all. Just my main advice for a dretch  :dretch: would be when running at enemies, move right and left and jump and walk on walls and jump off walls when running at an enemy to be a matrixdretch.
And another thing: dont buy grenades. They arent what you think they are/
and last before buying an expensive weapon, buy armour. Armour > weapon, because a riflesuit can kill about 3 or 2 dretches aand live to tell teh tale and a "naked" (no armour) lucifer cannoneer can kill about 1 or 2 dreches before blowing themselves up or being overswarmed.

Nope, can't say I have the GPP update (Unless I may have downloaded it by accident.) How would I be able to download it if it's not in the most recent edition? I see the tremulous-data in the Ubuntu software center but I'm assuming that's not it. Is there a download link available? I googled a little bit but I want to be sure.

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tremulous/tremulous-gpp1-installer.x86.run?download (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tremulous/tremulous-gpp1-installer.x86.run?download)

Just install it to where Ubuntu installed tremulous (/usr/share/games/tremulous, I think). And then, run ./tremulous-gpp from that directory instead of tremulous.

Cool, thanks. I just got done playing for a bit so I will play with it later.

The game seems fun so far, it's hard to play on a laptop though. Plus the little ankle bitters are a pain in the ass.
