Title: How To Bassywhore
Post by: swamp-cecil on March 10, 2011, 08:44:20 pm: So today, I will be teaching everyone here who reads this thread how to be a good basilick (Bassywhore)
1. hiding

The most important part for the basilick is the element of surprise. Since aliens have radars and humans don’t, it is very wise to hide. Anywhere. on the celling, behind a corner, on inclines or even behind the human. If your radar picks up 1 human, wait till he passes 10 meters or so in front of you. Then, walk towards him SILENTLY! Taunting or jumping will give away your location, so if you are wallwalking, just disable wallwalk. If you pick up more than 1 human, wait until both humans pass. Then, do the same technique on the human further back, then run away, or if the human doesn’t notice get him.
2. Assassinations

The basilick is the alien most suitable for an assassin. When walking up to a human from behind. With the element of surprise, don’t make noises (taunts, jumps, slashes ETC). walk directly to him, and when you hear the grab, you lose the element of surprise, but to your advantage. Once you grab him from behind, He will squirm and start spamming shots. Don’t worry, just slash away, or even be his hat (headslahes). If there are more than one human, it is highly encouraged to be his hat, and then run, or even kill the other human. 3 humans, you cant win.
3. Gas

The basilicks gas is not to be used 100 times every match, maybe 10 or 20. It is only used for multihuman combat and if you do not have/lost the element of surprise. It slows the human down and disorients them.
4. Spin

When you do not have the element of surprise, run up to the human, moving right and left with gas. When you grab the human from the front, you will do a method that takes the most practice; The spin. You spin around the human from the front to the back, then hat or not.
5. Meat Shields

Probably my invention, the meat shield is used in multihuman combat where the human(s) that you are not aiming at killing see you, and the one you are about to assassinate doesn’t. You, instead of hat’ing, slash the humans back, while the other human(s) shoot at you to save their colleague. You then spin around the human that you are killing, so that the human(s) trying to save their friend are are on the opposite side of your prey from you, making a meat shield effect. On a case where all humans see you, this method does not work as the meat shield will start shooting you, so either disengage and run, or be a 1337 player and kill them. You may be yelling KS! At the top of your lungs for this method.
6. Run

When you lose the element of surprise or you killed one human in multihuman combat, you will want to run or engage. If you choose running, look for the nearest incline away from the human or corner. If you find a corner or vent, you can run the hall/vent usually successfully, or method 2. Method 2 is to hide behind a corner/incline and wait. Because of the basilick heal, you will get a chance at step 1., except without the element of surprise. While running away, jump, and move back and forth to dodge bullets, and gas for a mini distraction.
7. Medic

If you ever see an alien running away with red HP on your HUD, it is advised to hide behind a corner, with the alien to heal. The alien will get full HP, reengage the enemy and you can also join the fight for a couple frags.
8. Equipment watch

Always watch what equipment a human has before fully engaging.

+ engage, death percentage is less than 1 percent
++ engage, with a slight chance of death
+++ engage with caution, with a 50% of death without the element of surprise
++++engage with extreme caution, for the elemntt of surprise may not be enough
+++++do not engage. Run

About grenades (possibly 9.)
if an enemy drops a grenade, INSTANTLY start counting to 4. When you’re done counting to 4, gas the target and jump back (away from the grenade). You should take no/little splash damage from the nade, but the target will take more, but because you gassed them they become slower and have less time to move away from the nade, so it’s easier to reengage.

Decent as suggestive information but you will need to watch the demos I put in the other thread when I make them. The basi's not a formula except against bsuits or jetpacks, with some attention to saws, flamers, and slightly luci.

A.) My team's rush is effective, causing the defending humans to turn their backs on my entrance and allowing me to sneak in and snag a few scared naked frags while they desperately unload their MG clips at far more distracting targets.

OR

B.) My team's rush fails and I switch to field medic-mode, quickly healing a few retreating teammates (who will more than likely make their escape through my exit and not the one they came in, because that's just asking for it usually) just in time for them to turn back and ambush their would-be attackers as they come charging out after us.

One good thing about scenario A is that distracted humans make the best test-dummies for your Basi to practice on.

Distance to opponent
You should not engage from a position where you are the one closing the distance to the opponent. This just makes you soak up damage. You don't have to corner camp to be able to choose your battles. As a basilisk you can wall walk to safety, move through vents and generally attack from creative angles that are not possible with larger classes. Combine this with the second consideration and you are well on your way to becoming legendary.

Line of fire
The objective is to not give your opponent a clean line of fire at you. So long as there is something between you and the opponent they cant do shit even if they know you are there. A few good examples would be ledges (vs humans without jetpacks; think transit), humans and large aliens (meat shields), high boxes (think tremor) and distance (vs shotgunners). Which brings us to the following point: Always have an exit strategy planned when you engage in case the odds turn against you. There is no shame in running when you can get away with it. A good strategy against pain in the ass level two humans is to poison them and leave their line of fire. Doing so might make them erroneously think you are weak causing them to give chase and negate the advantage they had.

Tremunomics (tremulous economics)
As you may have noticed the basilisk is rather cheap at one evolve point but can incapacitate humans with many evolve points worth of credits in gear. When fighting for example a human with pulse rifle, light armor and helmet you can afford to lose a few lisks and still call it an even trade off. The other beautiful thing about the lisk is that with it being so cheap you are unlikely to have a cashflow (evoflow) problems. In your quest to master the basilisk remember that loosing one basilisk is really no big deal, it's worth 2 minutes or one naked human so be aggressive. A big kill will see you equipped for a few battles whereas in stage three a basilisk kill will be a meager comfort to the human with 1000 credits in gear who just spent the last 5 minutes fearing you and bankruptcy.

Oh yeah, you didn't come up with the meat shield. ;)

Well, basi's are easy to use 1v1 now. Its groups where you get fucked.

Ehh, if the stage of humans is 2, they can have a radar (helmet) so if they are stage 2, you have to be extra carefully :)

I run form basi's but if I have anothe rhuman he will shoot it off of me.

going solo against two or more humans: you cannot always use the "meat shield" tactic. sometimes it's in your best interests to run. when running for cover (preferably strafejumping and mixing a few instants of wallwalk to throw off human aim) take a swipe at the nearest human's head. i've got more than a few frags in passing with a well aimed swipe to the head as i run away.

defending the base: especially effective as basi+. get near a choke point and be a mobile trapper/booster. the objective is to hold the human while larger aliens do the gruntwork. you'll want to get a slash or two in, so you get evo points. i read it elsewhere on these forums; basi + tyrant = human roadkill. if forced to disengage, gas. if it is a rush, try to gass the crowd behind the lead, and hold the lead, so the way is blocked. i really feel like a team player when, for example, in the window room i do this and the rush is blocked. bonus points for grabbing from above where nearly every slash is guaranteed to land on the head. staying off the floor also helps to avoid human reprisal, and minimise chances of getting TKed by somewhat overzealous teammates.

other than that, nice guide. oh, i disagree with your rating of turrets. i'd rate turrets by themselves as ++, turrets with alert defenders as ++++

Im not sure if I said this, but you have to spin arund the human then hat him at the backside of the head.
And also if you run behind a corner, because of bassyheal, you can just wait before restriking.

wait, so jettard blaster is EXTREMELU DEADLY?!? And i also would consider psaw and prifle quite deadly compare to the mass driver.
