maybe buildings older than 1 minute would start to spread this shit arround? Would be cool and look better than low res unanimated gray "stuff" texture.
-
woah thats some crazy stuff... but i disagree w/ u
-
Sorry, I like my creep. But those caterpillars are freaky o_O
-
hrhr, when in Sweden it's better to walk than to ride a bike *G*
-
arghh i am all itchy now :(
but i agree a litlle i think places around alien buildings should slowly turn black (like it is under eggs) so when a base is standing on place for long its all alien style

You want creep all over the place so the alien base looks like the hive in film "aliens"? ...and so the humans can say things like "it looks like some sort of secreted resin" and, a little later on, "THEY'RE COMIN OUT OF THE GODDAM WALLS!!"
-
Yea, it'd be a much better "creep area" effect, like the Zerg have in Starcraft. When you build structures as the Zerg, the creep area increases around the buildings, covering the terrain. Why isn't the creep in this game more like that? It would help builders know how far they can build.
As for the Humans, this idea can be used as well, except, only when you have a construction kit. If my idea is implemented, if you have your construction kit out, a transparent sphere is drawn around the reactor and repeaters, to show how far the power is going, like the Protoss Pylons do, in Starcraft.
-
"sphere" made me think about "sphere of influence"
Why not go a step further and lower the chargetime for the builder when the sphere increases?
-
Expanding creep sounds interesting.
But would it damage framerates?
-
I think not as I think it would be a texture and not another polygon model.

now it is a flat model with a texture on it, you can see it by placing for example acids on curved surfaces, sometimes "creep" grows on curved surfaces, sometimes it just sticks out like a piece of paper

thats excactly what i was thinking off ;) caus this game is like totally alien style

"Dude, where's my bike?"

Goddamn junkie caterpillars!
-
Please tell me that was a plague and that doesn't happen every damn summer :P
And the creep would a bit of a bad idea since it would alert humans there are alien structures nearby faster...
-
I just wanna flamethrower all that shit 8)
Oh wait, we have flamethrowers in Trem eh...?
Lets make it a feature now :D

Yes, because it isn't already hard enough to find the Human structures...
-
You could try to make a level with somthing like that. Sweet pic BTW.

I am SO on that. I want to see Hicks say that in-game..... *laughs*
-
i have that on the alien base its a purple organic stuff but it doesn't move
-

Maybe add some damage from the creep as a trade off for the visibility? This can also be a solution to egg hunts.[/quote]

how about a texture that worms its way from the overmind to other structures like a vien or somthing that runs off a script and a human walking on it gets hurt and/or slows down slightly

this is exactly what I had in mind. A DYNAMIC texture with worms that slows humies down, granger spit should slow hummies too, and should too have those worms :)
-
Those pictures are more than slightly disturbing. XD
-
Heh.. it took me a while to figure out why you wanted more snowy white trees in tremulous.
Freaky worms.
-
Those are tentworms, they are everywhere, and you get rid of them by burning the web they make.
Very fun.
-
I can imagine... Is it anything like burning steel wool?

I think the crep slowdown humans. I have played a few local games, only me against me, and walking near eggs and other stuff make you slooow. So seems that slowdown you. Anyway I have not check that in real games.
-
Now THAT is FREAK-KAAAY. Man that is right out of a Steven King novel!!

-
Imagine you lying in that pile.
Now imagine they're infesting your whole house.
Bye bye :D
-
After you toast them, put 'em in a bowl and add milk.
Nice for breaksfast uh?
-
I can imagine them being what the trappers use:
*UnnamedPlayer advances*
*Trapper gets goin'*
*Wormy things spring forth*
*UnnamedPlayer wondering why the hell he's not goin' so fast anymore*
*UnnamedPlayer gets a dretch to the head*
*Handy wormy things thanked*
*Handy wormy things die from human contamination and respiratory failure*

TOLD YOU SO!
-
yeah, but something that looks better than the 'green blobs' look of 'natural section 2'(as the dev calls it).
Dark and wormy ftw :D
-
Why not use a texture and game mechanic similar to the existing "black creep splat" under all alien buildings.
Make the Overmind and Eggs project much larger creep splat, giving us the effect we are looking for.
The only hitch would be the need for it to be tiled, instead of a single image.

because the current one looks like GAMEBOY graphics, even on HIGH quality settings :/ I can see particular PIXELS ffs :( its pathetic :(((
-
We can probably put a new texture in if you like.
The important thing is is that the engine mechanic is there.
-
actually it is currently broken :)
https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2935
and it looks like crap compared to the 'green blobs' build from actual map objects.
-
Howsaboot this:
When eggs and the om are built they spread creep as normal, but when other structures are built, in addition to the normal creep square a long "creep tentacle" grows between it and the nearest egg or om while it's building. Then when the creep from the egg and the structure connect the structure becomes active. Both the egg/om and the structure send out a tentacle to each other that meet in the middle.
In that way areas with many structures (i.e. the base) will be absolutely plastered in thick sticky alien slime, and hidden eggs with no dependent structures will not have tell-tale creep tentacles.
-
Cool, so alien bases will end up a huge mass of creep?
Works for me....
-
Yay, lets slow the humans down so that grangers can kill them when they attack
-
It would have to be something like from Starcraft. Zerg Creep is a slimy kind of terrain that which is exactly what we are talking about:
Leave the normal creep roots around the buildings, but generate a tiled "terrain" texture around the structures, and increase as the structure ages.
-
Just be careful with what is fair use and what is copyright violation.
Whatever you do, don't make it purple.
-
If you use something like that, they have to spread slowly. The longer the game goes, the more of the map gets covered. Eventually the entire map is covered.
Concepts are not copyrightable. If you were thinking about stealing the textures from Starcraft... ha... hah... hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
GOOSEBUMPS GOOSEBUMPS! GET IT AWAY! AAAAH!
I would HATE that in Tremulous. Don't want to get goosebumps everytime I attack alien base you know!
shudder

That'll give people goosebumps? Really?! THEN YES YES YES! WE NEED THIS FEATURE! When I play as aliens I want to FEEL like an alien, and that means (aside from choppers hudmodels) a base made from thick slimy organic-looking material that oozes mucus and relentlessly consumes and infests everything in it's range.
Seriously though, I'd really like this. Perhaps have the tiled creep (as suggested by Odin above) spread between eggs/om and dependent structures, or just have it spread between structures that are within a certain range of each other. If this were to happen slowly then you'd get the "slow infestation" effect where the alien base would become progressively more slimed over time.
Isolated structures would just have the normal creep root else it'd be difficult to hide eggs.
Mmmmm... sliiiime.... mmmmmm
-
Well actually my idea also consists of only being able to build on said creep. Eggs expand the creep, like Creep Colonies do in Starcraft.
-
ah geez, if you guys actually put those maggots in alien, I will NEVER be alien nor would I go and attack the alien base. Lol
-

Huh? No no - not the maggots, just lots of CREEP!
...although now that you mention it, a new buildable that's like a hive but contains loads of maggots that infest the creep and attack the humans would be awesome!
-
oh creeps... I thought you were talking about maggots (first page)
I'm okay with creeps. I actually LOVE creeps. Hehehe, I bet you are now changing your mind (or not, I'm not psykic [is that spelt right?])
-

sounds like the shit i had on my face once
:)
-
Ive seen that kind of worms.
Those white trees look creepy.
