Well, when with the luci, I was never able to shoot down a running goon with secondary luci bullets. But, what if the secondary fire from the luci hoams just a Bit. It has a big curve to make it not too OP but the slights turn, or "hoam" Allows the bullets to hit it if its off by a couple Centimeters (Inches). It automatically hoams on to the nearest target to an invisible line created when shot by not length to the firer, but length to the line itself. Heres a pic of the whole concept:
http://imgur.com/qOOza (Lol qOOza)
In Figure 3 (Bottom Right), Even though the bigger blue dot is closer to the firer, It selects The smaller because it is 0 cm away from the "line"
Only For Secondary, 1 ammo consuming fire of the lucifer cannon

The word you're looking for is home.

Leave the luci alone. If you have a luci there's no excuse for you to not be going towards the alien base, so if they run they're either out of your way or you're going to get to them later anyways, although if you're in the alien base you should be dodging enemies, taking out the ones that are actually a threat, and then killing structures.

I like how Kharnov is a spam killer.

Nevermind, my post was poor in taste and execution.

Well, its just something that I hope Would'nt affect gameplay, but just makes it cooler, And a bit more accuracy, since secondary fire lucies tend to suck when i use them, so yeah.
-
If something sucks when you use it, see if it sucks when other people use it. As for myself, I find secondary to be more than fast enough to hit what I'm aiming at. Out of curiosity, do you lead your shots when firing? If not, then you should as it will improve your accuracy with it.

Not thinking about gameplay but thinking about how COOL it is isn't really the way to develop a game.

That was a bad way to introduce the concept. You're saying you want the weapon to be dummed down for you. Bad start.
So let's pretend you're considering this as an exercise in coding unusual weapon mechanics. In that case let me see if I get this right: You're saying a line is traced forward from firing the lucifer cannon and the alien with least distance to that line is the one that the luci-ball tracks. Thereafter the ball will have a slight force in the direction of that target.
Or is the line traced constantly from the luci-ball? Or does the distance to the line take into account how much easier it is to curve slowly toward further targets? Or is the force applied not toward the target but perpendicular to that direction so as to reduce counterproductive velocity?
EDIT: Note I have some experience with this kind of thing. In garry's mod I made a brick that could hit melons in mid air (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7sR8O4jnuE) (with a constant magnitude force behind it).

Zip: Im good with luci. Im just not good with secondary fire.
Meis: ?
Nux: Your first idea on how it works is correct. It gives a SLIGHT curve to the ball after the target so it can hit the target if its off by a couple centimeters. Because, the most expensive weapon is good at medium-short range, but any further its bad, like a couple 5 meters (feet) away from the target, it is slightly dodgable. So, should the most expensive weapon not be able to shoot down a fleeing rant or goon? Because im sure a prifle and chaingun can give better luck at shooting down the fleeing alien. Its mainly not speed that makes it fail, because it can catch up, its because the alien can easily "matrix" the bullet, where it can with a Prifle, but not as good because of the amount of bullets. And the damage on that secondary fire. If it does manage to hit the target, it probably wont be enough to kill, since it does about 25-40 damage (im not sure) when a fleeing alien usually has 60 or less. Im not complaining this subject because I want to make it OP, but because it would help the shooter kill the target if they got unlucky and ran away with 10 HP when the shooter has the, keep in mind most expensive weapon, and that it would seem cool if we have this kind of special effect.
-
Lol what the fuck. You're not good with luci if you don't understand that it takes incredible timing to do the full 265 (is it still 265?) while in the midst of combat There's no "luck" involved if an enemy gets away with 10 hp because you fucked up and didn't charge it that last little bit.
As it is, I hardly ever kill an advanced goon with one luci shot, and it doesn't much matter anyways. All you really need to do is get shit out of your path to the alien base. Once you're in there you can deal with the aliens if you have to. Besides, if you kill them on your way there, it's not unlikely that they're going to be waiting for you with another evolved class.
As an additional note on this, keep in mind that dretches and basilisks are easily the most dangerous class to you while you're in the alien base aiming at structures. You can dodge the others without looking, it's cake now. The dretches don't have to time anything though, so they just run around you and do damage.

I find im good with Luci. I usually find myself one-hitting AdvGoons. But, what IF you missed a charge? What if you didnt manage to kill that goon when he has 5 HP left in front of the alien base when you have 30? If you dont manage to shoot him down, you are left to be raped by the impending dangers inside the alien base and gain no profit.
However, i do admit it isnt nescisary If you ARE that close to the alien base and ARE that close to the alien, you will usually be able to hit him down, if you did miss about 100 miliseconds of charge.
However, this is the case you would use the secondary fire most often, so why not implement the hoam/home for coolness?
Why doesnt this be a test for a couple days on the official servers to test how gameplay changing it is?
-
Just to make a point: Secondary luci shots are (if I recall correctly) 2x as fast as a standard luci shot, I don't see why it should have homing on top of that.
What if you missed a charge? Try, try again.

Not thinking about gameplay but thinking about how COOL it is isn't really the way to develop a game.
I find this self-explanatory.
Why do you think there should be features added to the game just because they're so COOL? With that logic we'd be running around Tremulous with lightsabers, robots, and man-eating pancakes.

You say that as though trem wouldn't benefit from man-eating pancakes!

Its a good idea, and a COOL one also, makes the secondary fire more useful.
Yeah disagree with me its a cool idea, however YOU are disagreeing, not the majority of players who are not pros thank-you.
Edit: Any idea can be made to be good when implemented properly. Basically, Stop looking for all the negative thoughts and find positive.

Something tells me you don't have a lot of experience with arguing your point properly.

My reply is very simple and goes straight to the point. You could say it lacks evidence to back up my point, but anyone who can read will find evidence for them self. (I'm not gonna write a page long to back up my arguments because its common sense; EG Tremulous to much pros? Yes because tremulous is not known well and is very old thus lots of dedicated/pro players. )
There is 3 arguments, all short sentences. Something tells me you can't read post ^^

Your initial premise is terrible.
The lucy secondary is hard to use, so you want it to aim for you.
Why? Specifically not to affect gameplay, but because it is COOL.
If it's just to be cool and not affect gameplay, then why does it even matter that the secondary is hard to use?
Have you considered that perhaps it is supposed to be hard to use?
Kunari, I am impressed with your well reasoned, clearly expressed, and overwhelmingly powerful arguments. Are you on a debate team?
-
If I'm going to support the idea to implement the secondary fire luci home, It will be mostly speculation. I believe this idea is best tested, since explanation can go a lot of ways.
Anyway Based on my idea on this idea, making the secondary fire of the luci to slight home on close aliens in proximity to the luci ball is kinda pointless, but cool nonetheless.
What could be gameplay changing is making the secondary luci cannon shoot in burst instead of 1 fast ball. That will probably make players use the secondary fire more.

A flying alien is also gameplay changing, it could make people use flying aliens more.

And? This is a topic about the luci.

He knows what the topic is. He's trying to show you there's a problem with your reasoning by applying it to something else. He probably thinks 'players will use secondary fire more' isn't a good enough reason by itself.
You might feel secondary fire is underused, but it seems like others disagree. I personally don't use it as much because I'm usually too busy charging for the next big primary shot (anticipating bigger enemies).
-
Then again, the devs are always tweaking what isn't getting used, seemingly to get it to be used (shotgun/flamer, i.e.) So while the argument may be flawed, the truth is that there is merit in novelty's ability to get us to use items.
-
Who uses the Secondary fire in 1.1? I'm guessing nobody because its to damn slow, despite being able to throw out more shots. Now with 1.2 I do see some people using the secondary fire, since its more useful as its more faster, however but the uses seem to be very low.

ha ha ha opposite for me. In gpp i never use secondary except for combos to kill eggs in 'one' (two, but hits the same time) shots.
Also, in 1.1 although it was slow, it was handy in annoying people, and warning aliens there's a lucispammer around the corner.

Secondary is still quite effective against dretches, and as a fast finishing shot against adv. dragoon. These are my (limited) observations.
-
Might someone upload a demo showing some (successful) secondary LC fire? I haven't seen any on YT or spec'ing, and would put a fast stop to this debate if you showed how to be good with it.
-
Meh it's dangerous enough, it kills dretches and it's supposed to be difficult to wield.
