I was playing a game yesterday, and realised just how tricky those slimy aliens get.
The game had just started on Transit, us humans survived the dretch rush by building turrets like mad (why do you start with NO turrets on that map???), and one of the aliens says
ok i'm ready decon reactor now plz
so our teammate decons the reactor, the rest of us were too busy shooting aliens to notice. Then 30 seconds later we realise the armoury doesn't work, and then we got owned by goons soon after.
>_> How were we fooled so easily by aliens?
-
I hate tactics like that.
-
is this sa tricky question?
-
meh, I've seen humans do this.
Not so much a trick on a team as it is a trick on a noob.
While I think it's unfair in a public game with lots of unknown players, in a small match with known gamers I think its disinformation and fair play :)
-
It's lame but the lamest of the two is the one who fell for the trick.
Remember, never listen to anything said on public com ( green text ). Make it so that you cannot fake the colors of a public or of a team com. Make it so that the team of the player is displayed before each public message. Good servers do that last one already and if works great to avoid mistakes if you know what to look for.

tip2:
the team-com makes a "crshhh" on human and a "grblgrbrb" on alien, while normal chat makes just a "bleep".

crshhhgrblgrbrbbleep
yep, that makes sense :P

I've seen bluffing used quite often, although this is the first time I've ever heard of an alien convincing a human to decon the reactor!
When I'm playing as an alien I sometimes see other aliens say things like "WHY DID YUO DECON THE OM?!?!?!!" (when the OM wasn't deconned at all) to tempt the humans out. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't.
Other common bluffs I've seen include claiming that there's no spawns or builders left, that you've only got 4hp when you've really got 400, pretending to do a basemove, etc. Seems to happen in Transit more than the other maps though.
Then there's bluff-ambushes too, e.g. you see someone saying "moving to other train carriage, start deconning", then about fifteen seconds later you see about ten "someone was mauled by someone else's tyrant" messages scroll off of the screen when all the humans tried to rush the basemove.
IMHO bluffing is a valid tactic, just need to watch for n00bs who fall for one like that

I was once speccing a game, and noticed a builder hovering over the reactor.
Just to see if he would do it, I said, "decon reactor now!!!", and he actually did it.
I laughed my ass off, and quickly disconnected in the confusion.
That was the only successful time it's actually happened, although I have tried to bluff on other occasions.
-
I once had a Marauder that ate my Reactor. It was so horrible.
-
heh we do that on AKKA tons of times. sadly only the people who have no clue what [A], [H] and
-
Hhehehehh.... ive tried that a few times, didnt work.
You need to do it on a server with no [A] or [H] tags before the names, and on a server that you know has a few noobies on it.
Its never worked for me before though :D

haveing an unamed player who understands team chat can be very good, as the aliens will not be too supicous when he spouts secrits. then thay rush the base move to find were over the other side of the map

I love posting bluff messages on how many kills to next stage. "Public: <Kuru> 11k to s3 go go go we can do it!!!!!!! <Kuru> Whops"
